I've been coming to platos closet for years. The clothes are cheaper than the mall and you can find a good deal once in a blue moon. Be careful about selling your clothes cause you won't get your monies worth. It's not a bad place to shop but the management has gone downhill. You used to see the owners there all the time or at least the store manager but they're never there anymore.
I came a few weeks ago around 3 and brought clothes to sell. The assistant manager took my bags and told me there was an hour wait then walked away. I waited for fourty minutes and watched only one tiny girl work try to go through at least twenty bags on her own. I watched her ask for help when the assistant came back and that girl said she had more important stuff to do....then went and took pictures on her phone?? Its sad when playing on your phone is more important than my time and helping your co-workers.
Around 4 some new girls came in and the attitude of the staff changed dramatically when that girl left. They seemed to enjoy their job a lot more and wanted to help each other. I finally got my clothes back bought a few things. Sad how bad management can really ruin an experience.
I went to this Plato's a few times last year and the girls were always nice and took quite a few of the items I brought in and they sorted through my bags within 20 minutes.
I went in a few days ago with two bags of clothes and the girl was nice but told me it would be 45 minutes because they were "backed up."
There were maybe three other people in the store and they didn't have a lot, if any other bags to sort.
45 minutes went by and my bags were still sitting on the counter. I went up to counter to remind them that I was waiting but they weren't fazed. It took another 20 minutes for them to finally sort my bag (there were at least five girls behind the counter that could have done it). They didn't even write my name on the board so I had no idea if they were done or not, I had to wait by the counter while they looked on, seemingly annoyed. The entire time they were gossiping loudly about so-and-so's wedding and doing everything but tending to customers.
I became livid when they started taking bags/boxes from people that had just walked in and immediately sorting them while mine sat on the floor, untouched.
When I got my stuff back they had only taken 5 items, among them the 3 year old AE jeans and $12 Joe Fresh t-shirt.
What they returned to me was a brand new pair of $60 Adidas that I wore once because they were too big, a $250 BCBGMaxazria dress, and an $85 North Face among other Gap, Jack Wills, Abercrombie and Quiksilver clothes.
Looking around the store all they have is like 5 year old crusty Forever 21 shirts that they're selling for $6+ when that's probably what it costed brand new.
I was even about to buy some stretched out loafers but they made me wait so long and were so rude that I put them back and left with my two bags of brand-name clothes.
I'll probably end up taking what they didn't want to Clothesline. It seems like more mature people work there. The girls at Plato's are high schoolers and college freshman that have no idea how to run a business and seemingly only pick things out of people's bags that they would wear. I wouldn't even doubt it if they hid the nice clothes deep in the overfilled racks so they can buy them once they've been on the floor for 3 days.
WILL NEVER darken these doors again, I took almost brand new (in-style) jeans and clothes and they said that all my clothes were out of date. They had tons that were older than mine it's a joke...I've never in my life had anyone treat me the way these young little girls did. They're rude and unprofessional whoever runs/ owns this store you need to get older respectable young women instead of high school babies who are rude and downright ugly to people who bring in clothes...it's hard to yell just how many people who will no longer shop there because you hire these rude teeny boppers!!! Get someone who knows how to run a business like this!!! Very disappointing
Very unprofessional. If you take clothes you should probably leave while they go through yours. It's like a slumber party as 3 young girls loudly and rudely go through your items, saying out loud whatever comes to their minds. The 'Manager' should probably be old enough to have some experience as well. If all of your staff is 18-20 yrs old then you are going to have problems. And their is no rhyme or reason to their buying. Don't try to figure it out.
I took 5 pr of American Eagle young Men's jeans (26 waist) was told they don't buy that size when I was looking while they checked my items I found several pairs of exact same sizes on their racks!!!! Either they were running low on funds or whatever reason, don't lie that you don't buy a certain size when it is currently in your store.
I've seen a few negative reviews about Plato's Closet and I truly do not understand why. The staff is extremely accommodating. I must have asked to get at least 3 outfits off of mannequins. Instead of getting annoyed with me (like I expected) the staff member searched through clothes in that back just to find a jacket that'd match my dress! Love this store.

I should have stayed in the store while the employees tore through my clothes. When I returned from my errand, the girl working said, in a very condescending way, that my clothes were 'too mature' for their store. However, my 7 'A' pocket jeans and one other pair of pants, were not 'too mature' for an $8.75 offer. I was so humiliated! I quickly agreed, but I should have ripped my pants off the table and walked out, because as soon as I said OK, she HIGH FIVED her fellow employee behind the counter!
I have worked consignment, and if it is your policy that you remain in the store while the appraiser looks through your clothes, it should be mentioned beyond a website. Especially if someone says they are going to step out, and have never been there before. It would be better than humiliating them after the fact.
I should go straight to the owner, if I owned that store; I would want to know what was going on behind my counter.
Overall, Plato's was just a terrible experience. I'm not sorry to say that I would never recommend this store to anyone.

I tried my best to give this store a chance. I shopped there 3 times. I have a very mellow and forgiving way and for this to make me feel this way, these people are just really horrible. I never been treated in such a bad way in all my shopping experience. Each and everytime for different reasons, I was treated in a very rude, mean way. They have rude and unprofessional people working there. Customer Beware!
