Today we drove over 215 miles and 3.5 hours to see if a macaw they found was our bird. We have proof that he was with pictures and blood feathers but they did not care. They already had a new place lined up for him. They had him isolated in a room by himself far away from all people and other animals and in the 3 hours we were there not one of the staff interacted with him except to pull the sheet off the cage. THEY HAD THE CAGE COVERED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY!!

Their mission states...

Our mission

The Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin (formerly the Rock County Humane Society) is a private nonprofit 501c3 organization whose mission
is to provide shelter and humane care to lost and homeless pets, reunite lost pets with their families, promote positive pet adoptions and educate our community in order to inspire compassion and responsible pet guardianship. Simply put, we are here to help pets go home again.

They failed in almost every aspect. They did not care that we had been family to this bird in the past, they refused to allow us to fill out an adoption, even willing to pay the fees, for Alex. They had a new place lined up and were transferring immediately after the required time. They posted it on a Thursday, I contacted them within a day, we went there within 3 days, but on the 4th he’s gone.

I would never recommend this place and God forbid anyone loses their pet in this area. Unfriendly, unethical, definitely not into reuniting families!

If I could give ZERO STARS I would!!

This is the only humane society that I have ever been able to go into without crying. The place is wonderful and the staff is great. I wish we could've adopted more cats but we sure got a winner on getting Archie. The place is clean, they take time with you and allow you to spend time with the animal before you decide. I honestly cannot find one negative thing to say and when the time comes to get another, we will return.

I had my first experience at a shelter in the Midwest and I am planning on going back today to adopt a pet. The staff were courteous, the place was clean, the animals were darling and tugged at my heartstrings. My group and I were afforded the opportunity to sit in a private room with each of our possible furries to see if there was a "connection". We also had the opportunity to go into a specialized viewing room and the establishment was clean and all the animals appeared well cared for.

DO NOT ADOPT HERE!! If I could...

DO NOT ADOPT HERE!! If I could give this shelter a zero I would. If you like being treated like garbage and be told you lied on your application because the staff are obviously not equipped to read a simple application then when you finally get things cleared up and are accepted for adoption everythime you walk in, its like middle school everyone behind the "cool" counter is pointing and whispering about you. And then lets talk about donating unused items to them. Most places would be greatful you donated and at least say thank you because you can give a little extra to homeless animals but not the RCHS. The interrogate you over everythhing, is this stolen, why arent you using it, did you give up the animal, did you euthanize your pet, did you abanded the pet, really lets not look a gifted horse in the mouth take it and be happy. Pets do die of natural causes hello... it was a guinea pig cage they dont live for ten years idiots.NEVER NEVER AGAIN will I do anything for this shelter and I pray everyday for the unfortunate animals that end up here.
