Overall
WONDERFULLY DELICIOUS

My husband and I and another couple traveled to Weston WV to tour one of the older landmarks there. We were told we should eat at The Hickory House, which we did for lunch. May I just say that all four of us were so impressed by the food that we went back Sunday and bought quarts of the pickles, ranch dressing, Grandma's slaw, and bbq to take home with us. (We live 3 hours away) The staff made sure we received FRESHLY COOKED BBQ to take home with us. The staff were very friendly and accomodating. My friend and I are extremely particular about slaw and it was the BEST we've ever eaten. The bbq was moist and DELICIOUS. I had the baked potato with cheese, green onions and pork bbq (which was on the potato), baked apples and baked beans and this was TOP RATE. My husband had the bbq platter and LOVED IT. We all cleaned our plates. Upon our return home my husband and I shared the ranch, slaw, bbq sauce, pickles and bbq with his dad and stepmom and they also LOVED it!!!! They couldn't get over the taste of the bbq and Pat loved the cole slaw so much she is going to try to figure out how to make it!!

Perhaps the seating arrangement has changed since the comment the person left earlier on this site in 2008 because the restaurant could easily fit 50 plus people in it. And yes, the bathrooms are smaller, which didn't bother me. (a wheelchair could not enter the restroom)

I guess everyone has their own opinions on the taste of food and on the atmosphere at a restaurant and in saying this our opinion was...... we will travel 3 hours again to eat at The Hickory House. All home-cooked meals and reasonably priced. KUDOS to the family who own this wonderfully operated restaurant!

Overall
BEST BBQ, first rating with 1 star is completely WRONG.

Ok the first person who rated this must have been having a bad day, and taking it out on this place. We have eaten at this place several times and it is NOT what they say. Yes it has a small bathroom but is that why you come to a restaurant? I am a bigger person and I have no issues with dinning there, or with their restaurant. WOW where did they eat at? It can't be the same place they are talking about. Don't base your decision on their rating. It is THE BEST BBQ I have ever had. It has a wonderful atmosphere and just great country people! If you pass this up due to the first rating you are missing out on a EXTREMELY good restaurant!

Overall
Sadly disappointed...

SEATING

The seating accommodations leave MUCH to be desired. With three tables available, in the main dining area, they are very large and seat six or more people. Not suitable, whatsoever, for a small party who does not want the inconvenience of a booth, or cannot utilize a booth due to a disability.

RESTROOMS

The women's restroom is very small. Too small, in fact, for its own good. And, again, not good for a person with a disability, nor would it accommodate a larger person by any means.

FOOD - MENU

The menu has a lot to offer, with foods centered on a barbecue/BBQ atmosphere. They offer a nice array of appetizers, salads, entrees, and pasta dishes. It psyches you up for a fantastic meal. Then, the food arrives...

Making a bold statement, such as, "The best barbeque in West Virginia" - DON'T BE FOOLED. If you have ever had honest-to-goodness barbeque/BBQ, this is [unfortunately] not it. Our dining experience found it to be very dry and overcooked to the extent of being burned. With [mostly] black meat too tough to chew, it was a good thing there were French fries. Otherwise, I would not have had anything to eat. I almost ordered the ribs. Thank goodness I didn't.

One person ordered the chicken strip dinner. Whoa! Overcooked, very dry, and NOT a good value for the money. Any prior dining experience with a "dinner" has always brought some type of bread served on the side (if only a piece of grilled Texas toast) - none here.

PRICE

Far too expensive. A party of three dined for just over $35.00. Normally, I would consider $35.00 to be [somewhat] reasonable - reasonable IF you get good food and a nicely sized portion.

All in all, the appearance is pleasing and the menu is nicely thought out. If the owners/management could get a better grip on the pricing vs. potion and quality of food, it might be a desirable place to dine.

I would not recommend this restaurant, nor do I have any immediate plans of returning.

Overall
It's a landmark on the way to Jackson's Mill.

Given as a landmark with directions to Jackson's Mill, this restaurant is on the corner of US19 N of Weston, and the Jackson's Mill

road.

A friendly staff, reasonable prices, service has been prompt,

and a good menu make this a place to look for if you're in the area.

The BBQ Sauce is tasty and the portions are ample.

Comfy booths and a couple of larger tables to accommodate medium-sized groups.

A separate room is available for meetings and larger groups.

By all means, check this out.
