This sounds like a wonderful place to dine, but unfortunately I live in Virginia. Iam very curious to know if this was once Peg Leg's Oyster Bar in the 70s. I found one of my old check stubs to be only $2.15 for 4 hours. Does anyone remember Peg Legs ???? If I ever get to Jville, I will surely have "Bonos" at the top of my list to dine....

The best BBQ in the U.S! It doesn't matter what you order, you'll love it. When I lived out west, my first stop upon landing in Jacksonville was Lou Bono's. I now live 75 miles away in Georgia, but a detour to southside is always in order if we're in Jax. Go hungry!

I went there to see my cousin that works for Bonos.....i went by what he told me about the the food.....and
it was fantastic....the iced tea was great....the ribs were outstanding. it is a nice atmosphere, nice employees.
i would go back again. the mandarin store is the BOMB.....you need to go there.....ask for the specials for the day or night.

I have dine at all the BBQ restaurants in Jacksonville, even north to Maryland & west to Texas but no one beats BONO'S. The pure taste of the meat come from Harvey, main cooker who has been there over 50 years and give BONO'S it's personality. When Harvey retires there is going to a great lose. At all the other BONO's here in Jax it is not the same.
One day I met a man who flies from New York to Jax, has lunch at BONO's, drives to Miami for business back to Jax eat at BONO's and flies back to NY. He's biggest regret was when he retired.

I ordered the smoked turkey. They use some sort of rubbery processed meat that is discusting. I asked the waitress what exactly it was and if it was processed, but she just shrugged and said ""I have no idea."" Well, I have no idea why people eat at this place!!!???
