Alter Home Furniture Consignment

OWNER THREATENED TO CUT MY TABLE INTO PIECES.
I sent pictures and spoke with the owner on the phone before bringing the table in to be sold. I asked several times if he could sell it for the amount I needed ($1,000). He avoided answering the question and kept saying "I will sell it for what you want." When I brought it in and unloaded it with the chairs, he said he would list it for $400. I said I would just take it home rather than make a profit of $200. He said he would list it for $1000, but that, in his experience, "nobody will pay that much for a table and chairs."
After a week, I called him and asked if I could just come pick it up and take it back since he said it would never sell for what I needed. Rather than waste both of our time and energy, could we just call it even? And truthfully I felt misled since I never would've even brought it in had I known he couldn't sell it for what I needed. He said no and that I was under contract for 90 days. After that I could have it back. After pressing him again he said that we could DISCUSS the matter again in 30 days but that he would make no guarantees.
I told him that I would be sure to mention The way he does business in my review and at that point he told me...and I quote..."well you left your table at the consignors risk so I can cut it up into pieces if I want and there's nothing you can do about it." He then hung up on me.
For fear that he would actually follow up on his threat I waited until the table sold to post my review. He did in fact sell it so I guess he didn't cut it into pieces. But I surely won't be doing business with him again and I will advise my friends and family to keep their distance as well

Very careful when dealing with these people if you leave something on consignment if you do not pick it up within 5 days after the consignment the property becomes theirs they do not point that out to you they are very arrogant and I would recommend nobody to deal with them and if I could give them a negative five stars I would

Anyone reading this review please be very careful when doing business with Alter Home Consignment. I had a terrible experience where I purchased an item and on the day the merchandise was delivered, the mover demanded that I pay more. When I called to complain, the store manager and sales person were very rude, unapologetic, and they too insisted that I pay more! I had a serious problem with this unreasonable request since I had already paid for my furniture and the original amount requested for their delivery service. Their condescending attitudes and unwillingness to help will forever deter me from what I consider a poorly managed store.





Terrible customer service. Their business with me was very shady. BEWARE.





I cannot recommend this business nor their delivery service. I definitely won't be back!

I also disagree with the previous review. Sarah J. seems to be having an issue with the delivery company, not with Alter Home. How was Alter Home's business shady? Sarah J. purchased an item, doesn't indicate there was a problem with the item, or charge, or anything else. Should, probably, write a review on moving company. Also, speculating on what may or may not happened is not useful ("This may not be the first time they've done this to a customer"). Alter Home is one of my favorite stores, I think it is a great place with nice selection of furniture and excellent customer service.

I totally disagree with the previous two reviews. More than that, I find it ridiculous. I bought furniture from Alter Home on several occasions, and recently for the first time I brought some of my stuff there to sell. I had to sign a contract that is about half a page long and it took me less than 2 minutes to read it. It specifically tells you about 90-day period (Damir D, what did you think it is - forever?) and the fact that you should keep track of it. It is amazing how often people try to BLAME SOMEBODY ELSE FOR THEIR OWN IRRESPONSIBILITY. Your personal attacks to the owner are not helpful either. LFALCONE2 - "He gets you to consign your high end furnishings..." - how did he do that, did he knock on your door or may be you came to the store and brought your furniture?

I love Alter Home, I think it is an excellent place to buy and sell furniture and I don't like adults being irresponsible and trying to blame somebody else for it.

Don't waste your time with these people. They are useless. They don't give or tell their customers that there is a 90-day contract meaning that if they don't sell it within 90-day they own your furniture. Owner claims that customers are responsible for calling them and picking up the furniture if not sold otherwise it's theirs. How would you know this if they don't disclose it?

DO YOURSELF A FAVOR CONSIGN AND SHOP SOMEWHERE ELSE

The owner of this company is ruthless. He gets you to consign your high end furnishing and does not give a copy of the contract, why? His words not mine " you have to ask for it" although you get a list of your items. If items are not picked up within 5 day of 90day mandatory agreement, he keeps all your furniture. Even if you have to attend a funeral out of state. I feel he stole my Bernhardt sofa, chair 1/2 w/ottoman & Henry Link cabinets.

I drove 45 miles to pick up my furniture , only to learn he refused to release them and informed me he now owned them. I feel he priced them too high so that they didn't sell within the contracted time and counts on you not being able to pick up in time so he gets free inventory and 100% profit.

I'm so glad I discovered this place! Wide variety of items and styles, very clean. It's fun to shop there.

You have heard all the horror stories about these guys on the news. They have you sign a contact that says they can low the price unti the item sells. Well I gave them a table I bought for $3000 2 years ago and did not have a scratch on it. Well they put my table in the back corner of the store and took 4mnths to sell. The set sold for $249.. I only recieved half of that. Beware of what you sign !!!!
