RE: VCA - METROPLEX ANIMAL HOSPITAL
I DO NOT RECOMMEND VCA METROPLEX ANIMAL HOSPITAL !!

After questioning their veterinarian's and tech's work; we requested our dog's medical records and shortly thereafter; they fired us as patients after 4 years of faithfully paying our bills.

RE: DR. BISCHOFHAUSEN of VCA Metroplex Animal Hospital

I DO NOT RECOMMEND DR. BISCHOFHAUSEN! Last year he misrepresented the cancer treatment for my dog. We relied on his gross misrepresentation when agreeing to let him operate on our dog. Our dog received a useless surgery and within hours after coming home, he was sick to his stomach, gagging and couldn't breathe properly and then was ultimately diagnosed with laryngeal paralysis LP - DR. B. implied it was a coincidence but we don't buy it! Despite lots of money and time spent, it wasn't DR. B. who diagnosed the LP or who successfully treated our dog for Cancer.

1 STAR BECAUSE THEY ARE OPEN ON SUNDAY
Please do not come here unless you enjoy the following:
A) Spending a ridiculous amount of money and your pet is still sick when you leave
B) Being emotionally distraught because the veterinarian looks at x-rays and jumps to the worst possible conclusion without doing anymore testing
C) You want to be conned into spending more money on a test that isn't even necessary

I went here on a Sunday because my cat's regular vet is closed on Sunday. it was possibly the worst weekend I have ever had. My cat was having trouble breathing, she was lethargic, and she wasn't eating. They did X-rays, which was completely necessary, so I am not complaining about that part. But what happened next just makes me think they only wanted the most amount of money possible. The X-rays showed fluid surrounding her lungs. So they pulled some of the fluid off of her lungs and based on what it looked like, the vet just jumped to conclusions and said it was heart failure, and there isn't much that can be done. She did suggest getting and Echocardiogram and EKG done which would have been another $700. I had already spenT nearly $500 before her suggesting that testing. She made it seem like if i didn't do the additional testing there was nothing I could do for my cat. I asked for medication to pull the fluid off of her lungs to at least help her breath until I could come up with the money for the additional tests. She sent me home with medication and a big bill. That night my cat looked like she would die. I have never seen her so un-alert; eyes were glossed over, no energy whatsoever. She was worse than before she went to the VCA ER.
The next day I took my cat to her regular vet and he was pretty confused about the method of "treatment" that was given. This vet has been recognized by Cat Fancy magazine for his work with feline medicine. I trust him and he has always been good with my kitty. He didn't understand why they didn't immediately pull ALL the fluid away from her lungs instead of just getting the tiny sample. This was not even mentioned at the VCA. He also didn't understand why they didn't run a simple blood test to check for heart failure. It is called the proBNP SNAP test. It took about 15 minutes and was only $41. The conclusion, NO HEART DISEASE! i WOULD HAVE WASTED ALMOST $700 ON AN UNNECESSARY HEART TEST. Needless to say, i spent significantly less money with my regular vet and got better results. He drained the fluid off her lungs and she is much, much better today! The fluid was sent off along with more bloodwork.
Bottom line, VCA Metroplex on 183 in Irving wanted to go with the most expensive and extravagant testing, instead of starting with the basic, simple diagnostics and treatment. Don't go here!

DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE IF YOU LOVE THEM - I brought my elderly cat in there late at night with a really bad bladder infection. They prescribed antibiotics and they compounded them into liquid. I made sure I understood the dosage and started giving my cat the medicine that night. A few days in, I realized they only gave me meds for 1/2 the days I needed. I called them. They were rude and unprofessional. I came back in to get the other 5 days and they had only given me 2 days worth. I called and talked to the hospital director Allen and he was rude and would not listen to the days of the calendar or how many meds I had. I came in to pick up meds for the 3rd time and it was only for 2 days. I am still trying to get the last day of meds and I find out that they are double charging me for the meds, I paid for 10 days worth before I left! I can't begin to be able to verbalized how rude, unprofessional and incompetent they are.

My house cat is 10yo. He has never gone outdoors. Late October he was having breathing problems. I took him to VCA for treatment. They were well aware his shots were not updated, and repeatedly told he BITES. My warnings were not heeded and he bit two workers. Animal Control was called and he needed to be quarantined for 10 days. The trauma has caused a series of health problems and many more vet bills. IF YOU LOVE YOUR PET DO NOT TAKE IT TO VCA! I recommend O’Conner Animal Hospital (O’Conner @ Rochelle) … they listen!!!!

My 1 year old cat was very sic...

My 1 year old cat was very sick and had stopped eating. I called several Vets and nobody seemed interested in helping me.

I drove to the VCA Metroplex and went inside because I did not have their phone number. A relative told me about them. They are in Irving next to the big white funeral home on Airport Freeway between MacArthur and O'Connor. It is the same price from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. then the price changes. I got there around 8 pm.

They were so compassionate the minute I arrived. They appeared to LOVE my cat and were so caring to him and they were also kind to me. I am giving them 5 stars because in my opinion, they are the best. My cat LOVED them. They gave him fluids and an antibiotic shot. He started eating 5 hours after we returned home and he is continuing to feel normal again. I truly think they saved his life. I think the world of the people working at VCA Metroplex.

It is nice to know we still have good people in our world who are not just interested in money, but are actually interested in being kind to animals and people.

I will go back if I ever need help for my pet again. They were so gentle with him.

OUR DOG DIED UNDER THEIR CARE

I stopped using this expensive vet years ago when my husband lost his job. I now use Banfield. However, I continued buying heartworm prevention from VCA FOR THE PAST TEN YEARS, I have purchased it from them every six months for the past ten years. However, today I was told they wouldn't sell it to me anymore, even after I had Banfield fax over his current negative heartworm test from 3 months ago and current shot records.

That's not the worst of it! We brought our other dog, 9-yr-old chihuahua, in for emergency vet care after an infection from a neighbor's dog bite, and they gave him a shot and said he'd be fine! They sold us an expensive antibiotic that we were supposed to start him on the next day! BUT WE COULDN'T GIVE HIM THE ANTIBIOTIC THE NEXT DAY BECAUSE HE DIED OVER-NIGHT! We were devistated! AND THEY REFUSED TO REFUND US FOR THE UNTOUCHED ANTIBIOTIC, EVEN THOUGH WE DIDN'T ASK FOR A REFUND FOR THE EXPENSIVE VET CARE! If you love your dog do not bring him to this INCOMPETENT vet!

Bonuses for Euthanizing?

I was very disappointed here. It was my first time and my last. The vet tech seemed intent on putting our dog down. She picked up our dog and turned to leave. I asked what she was doing and she said getting her ready to be euthanized. I asked her if she was the vet. She said no. I told her I want the vet's opinion before making a huge decision like that. She told me the vet would say the same thing. After 15 minutes a very young girl came walking in with a huge smile on her face. I finally discovered that she was the vet.

Everyone here seemed so set on euthanization. I declined. Of course I had to pay them before we could leave.

I am happy to report, our dog is alive and better than ever. We got a 2nd opinion. Sorry that VCA employees did not get a bonus that day.......

To me, a life is more important than money.....but the opposite is true for these people.

terrible experiance-rude vet.and staff

i took my dog to this clinic and was treated great while making the appointment(kimberly) but upon arrival my dog was taken from me and i did not see her for almost a hour with no staff explaining what was going on..the vet on duty was busy with other emergencies although my dog was having breathing issues..when i finally spoke to the vet she dr.andrews talked to me as if i were unworthy,non-caring ..take my dog home to watch her die..b.s..i will not waste my time or money with this place again..although it is a 24 hour clinic --i will drive extra miles if need be to be treated with respect..and when i was leaving some of the other staff had to make a direct rude comment to me..those people do not need to be working with the public..period
