- Cherith Counseling Center P.C. is the private practice of Sandra Festian ACSW LMSW located in the Downtown Plaza Building on the second floor above the Wishing Well gift shop in downtown Iron Mountain. Sandra has over 26 years of experience providing individual, marital and family therapy to the communities of Iron Mountain and Kingsford located in the South Central region of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Sandra specializes in panic and anxiety disorders, including aftereffects of abuse and trauma. She seeks to provide a compassionate and accepting place for a client to come and work through situations that may have recently happened or that happened long ago. She is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Cherith Counseling Center is Medicare-certified and an in network provider for Blue Cross Blue Shield, UPHP and most other insurances. My name is Suzette Stenfors. For years I have been suffuring from depression and anxiety. I have had many different concoctions of perscriptions that caused new problems that would result in more perscriptions. In 2004 I was seriously injured in a traumatic event which led to a diagnosis of PTSD. I am a Christian and I held a strong belief that my faith should be big enough to overcome. I was terrified because I thought I was doing the right things to get "there." I felt so much shame and disappointment in myself. I didn't like myself, how I thought, how I responded to stressful situations, I just wanted to hide myself away from people. I didn't want to hurt people and I couldn't afford to receive hurt anymore. I knew what I needed to do, so many doctors had strongly recommended counseling. I finally made an appointment with Sandy at Cherith. I have been guided to love and understand myself. I held beliefs that were unhealthy about myself and about God. Sandy helped me to discover truths about them. Little things that I had done as a child popped up and I was overwhelmed to discover the powerful impact they still held in my life. I learned to forgive and love myself through techniques that I continue to use daily. I was ashamed, at first, to go to counseling. I didn't want anyone to know or to see me. 2 Corinthians 1:4 is a verse that inspired me to share my story. I am so grateful for everything that I have been through and I feel God will use me to help others. Thank you Sandy for your faithful service to the Lord. His love extends through you in your wise and prayerful counsel. I don't want to scare anyone away. Sandy does not push her faith, she followed my lead.
