Bottom line is you simply cannot beat the Emerald Aisle experience. Reserve in advance and walk to the Aisle, pick your car and drive away minutes after getting there. Additionally, I have used this location numerous times and have always found the staff to be friendly and helpful.
Flew in to LAX 10/7 about 1030pm. Was surprised to see a line of people waiting outside Terminal 5 at the rental car pickup. the area is dark, congested, and pungent of exhaust odors, so not a place you want to be very long. We waited over an hour for a National bus to come and pick us up. in that time period, 2 busses drove by that said BUS FULL on them. In that time period at least 3 busses for every other name brand car rentals came by for their pickups, with Enterprise leading the way sending a bus about every 5-10 minutes. literally. I realize there is construction, but if National is sending only one bus every so often, once it's full, a new bus needs to start at the place where the first bus filled up, not at the beginning of the route. I was on the verge of cancelling my reservation when the bus finally showed up. I tried to call, but couldn't get a live person in Inglewood to find out the problem. When I did get a live person on an 800 line, they transferred me to the Inglewood number, and their menu doesn't allow you to talk to a human. EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING....The rest of the experience was pleasant, no issues. Car return was a breeze. Please National, work on the pickup for people.
I have been a National customer for many years and had a recent horrible experience at LAX. We waited in a congested and hot, exhaust filled shuttle zone at LAX where we were instructed to wait for the shuttle to the rental lot. A shuttle never came yet all other rental car shuttles did. I had to walk down to hertz to ask them if they knew where the national shuttle was and they said that they were filling up so fast that they had to exit the terminal before making it down to pick us up. No communication from National and no way to contact them. We had to uber to pick up our car and it was a nightmare and cost us additional time and $25, and the uber would only take cash. We would have never been picked up had we not asked where the shuttles were. I tried to respond to a customer service email telling national about my experience and of course I received the obligatory "this email isn't monitored" auto-response. I asked for help, and reimbursement for my uber and got zero response. Horrible. Was then stuck in worse rush hour traffic and late for my concert because of it. Use any other rental at LAX.
I like National, but they have to do something about the bus transport to and from the terminal at LAX. Flying frequently in and out of there, you wait as long as 45 minutes when every other rental car company has 4-5 buses come through before a single one from National shows up. Many have provided the same feedback to National Management on site, but no improvement has been made in over 2 years. Thinking of switching for this reason alone.
Well it's not actually on the airport property but none of them are. A bus transports from LAX to National. It was crowded, however being a premium member allow you to by-pass the front desk and walk over to any car you want in your row....there's a lot of choices. I like National for this very reason. We don't fly as much as we once did but I always check prices with National first...sometimes they a too high and other time (like now) they were reasonable. National I was very happy with your process and my rental. Thanks
I travel all over the US and this is one of the best places to rent a car. Always a good selection of cars, quick service to leave the lot, excellent return service and prompt shuttles to take me to the airport when all is said and done. LA has terrible traffic, but the car rental center for National is no trouble at all.
They had rows and rows of cars for the Emerald Club in my size (Premium) but only two cars for me to choose from in my row (premium regular rentals). Both cars where dirty inside and out so I asked the attendant if he could have the car washed. He apologized since the car was clearly very dirty. I also pointed out what appeared to be some weird stains in the passenger door (yogurt, maybe vomit?). He returned with the exterior washed but said the stains on inside would require a detailed cleaning. I asked him why did he put the car back on the lot, and he stated that's what "they" want. I asked him if I could choose a car from the Emerald row and said no, unless I was an Emerald club member. I choose the only other car in my premium section. Either way, I think they don't intend to put another car out on the regular lot until these are taken. Caveat Emptor: They cater to frequent renters and business travelers, so if you're a regular rental may want to go with another rental comapny.
Recently rented a car from National and was very pleased. The shuttle picked us up quickly and we were lucky to not have a line at counter. They gave us the car seats we rented and off we went to pick out a car. We had no problems and when dropping off we pulled up, got our stuff out and they gave us a receipt for the same price I had reserved it.
Great customer service. I stayed close to the airport on the final of a recent business trip. The hotel had a shuttle so I turned in my rental car a day early. The manager at National had someone drive me to the hotel so I wouldn't have to wait for shuttle service. Nice touch!
