Teeth Cleaning
Following even the most routine dental care like a teeth cleaning, you may experience some increased sensitivity. This is not necessarily a problem as long as the discomfort is minimal and quickly abates. Use oral hygiene products made for sensitive teeth, and avoid extremely hot or cold foods and beverages for a few days. If you have waited several weeks, used toothpastes for sensitive teeth, and avoided very hot and cold items and are still experiencing sensitivity, your treatment may have damaged or inflamed the pulp. Return to the general dentist who provided the initial treatment for a reevaluation. If pulp damage is discovered, contact Dr. Bishop for endodontic care.

Crowns
Following endodontic treatment, your tooth, gums, jaw, and other oral and facial structures may be sore or tender. Throughout these treatments some mild swelling or tenderness should be considered completely normal. Avoid chewing on the side of the mouth where the endodontic treatment was performed, until your general dentist has placed a final dental crown or other restoration to strengthen and protect the tooth. Continue to brush and floss as usual taking special care to be gentle around the treatment site. We recommend over the counter pain medications such as: Advil Liquid Gel capsules (ibuprofen) or Tylenol Rapid Release tablets (acetaminophen) take as directed to relieve discomfort. You may want to apply an ice pack at 20 minute intervals (20 on and 20 off) to reduce swelling, inflammation, and discomfort. If your discomfort is not adequately addressed with these pain relievers and ice packs, contact our office right away. One of our team members is always available to help.

Root Canal Treatment
The word endodontic is made up of two Latin words “endo” meaning inside and “odont” meaning tooth. Endodontics is the study and care of the inner parts of teeth. Teeth are composed of three layers. The outer layer is made up of tooth enamel, the hardest substance in the body. Inside the enamel, is a dense, supportive layer of dentin. The innermost layer of teeth is known as pulp and it houses the nerve and blood supply of the tooth. The job of an endodontist is to understand and treat oral health concerns that effect these inner layers and may lead to toothaches.
Apicoectomy
Before your apicoectomy, we will provide you with detailed preoperative instructions to help you prepare for the surgical treatment. We will need to discuss any past surgical treatments especially if you had an adverse reaction. Dr. Bishop will review your current medications and work with you and your physician to ensure your medications will not adversely impact the procedure. The day before any major procedure, you will need to avoid eating for at least eight to twelve hours prior to your surgery. We will provide other more specific guidelines during your consultation appointment.

Deep Cleaning
Along with cleaning and sanitizing during the day, we take things to another level at night with a thorough top-to-bottom scrub down.

At first, it might seem like pulling your tooth is the cheaper option. It isn’t. That’s because there are other costs involved, including the cost of replacing the tooth with a dental bridge or implant. Root canal treatment is often completed in a single visit as well, while extracting and replacing a tooth can take several appointments spaced out over the course of several months. We also need to mention here that root canal treatment saves your tooth, which is what we recommend whenever possible.
