The Cake Box

Overpriced and inefficient. I ordered a cake for my daughter's baby shower. The morning of the event, the baker called and asked if I wanted any decorations on it. I had already given her a copy of the invitation so that she could duplicate the floral design. She didn't know what I was talking about. I had to run over and give it to her again and then go back an hour later to pick it up. Ruined my whole day.

I ordered a wedding cake from The Cake Box for my 25th wedding anniversary wedding renewal ceremony and reception. Bringing in a picture of exactly what I wanted, I was promised and assured that this bakery could make a duplicate. I ordered a sage green and cream 3 layer cake. I had to provide the sugar pearls and tiny flowers that were in the picture of the cake I was ordering. On the day of the ceremony, I was not there when the cake delivered. Upon my arrival, I, the other florist, and the wedding coordinator were shocked and sickened to see the cake. It was the color of spoiled guacamole, with squiggly and puffy scoring lines that looked like a pre-schooler had done them, an overall bumpy, not rounded and smooth, shape to the the different layers of the cake, incorrect placement and coloration of the pearls plus the provided flowers were in the wrong positions. After my heartbreaking experience, I wrote the business a letter, teling them of how they had ruined a huge part of my reception and requesting a 50% refund (the cake was delicious and therefore I got half of what I ordered). They refused. Upon filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, the Cake Box said that they had never promised to make my cake look like the picture and that because I was so angry, I had no claim to a refund. I know of what I speak, as I am a wedding florist and have embellished numerous cakes with fresh flowers. This was one of the most hideous cakes in which I have come into contact. I trusted this business and they delivered an unacceptable product. If anyone chooses to use this bakery, I advise them to have a small prototype of their cake done ahead of time and to get into writing the verbal promises that The Cake Box makes to them.
