All it takes is a little preparation to get your car winter-ready and to keep from getting into an icy situation.
It’s time to bring long sleeves and long pants out of storage, prep your home and car, and contact the cool weather home/yard contractors.
About a year ago I had a car go down unexpectedly. The wife and I were not ready to purchase a new car and money was certainly a concern. We went into surf City Nissan expecting to get chewed up in a shark tank of salesman. Instead we were approached calmly by salesman, Randy Matlack. To our surprise he listened to our concerns about price and put us in a car in our range. He did not try to upsell us rather worked with us. We were very surprised and pleased with this. The good treatment did not end there when we went inside the store manager came up to us and greeted us personally and went out of his way to make sure that we were satisfied with the deal and with our treatment. He said to call him and let him know if we had any concerns. I just thought that showed a little bit of class even though I had no intention dealing with him personally because I felt that we were taken care of by the salesman. 3 weeks ago my wife's sister needed a car so we did not hesitate to take her over there. We figured we would give it a chance and you are surprised it was not a fluke, we receive the same professional treatment and courtesy. I can't say this enough but we were not pressured or up sold into something that we could not afford. Once again it was a completely enjoyable experience, well as enjoyable as car buying can be. As far as service I needed an oil change and I called them at 9 a.m. About a month ago. They had me in there at 1030 that same day after I explained that I was in a hurry to get it done.. I don't know if that is their usual course of business but I have to tell you that I felt that we were treated very well and I know where I will be headed to get my next car.
I've been taking my Lexus to Mecema Auto Repair Service in Huntington Beach for a year now. Before, I would take my car to the dealership to get the oil change and any tune-ups that were needed. It's should be a great deal to get your car serviced at the dealership, but after a couple of not pleasant experiences there... I felt they take advantage of customers who are not familiar with engines and drive shafts (the non-techie type). Mecema offers everything in car repair and maintenance I need. I am grateful for their fair prices, friendly, knowledgeable, pressure free staff. I have done two scheduled maintenances and one small repair at Mecema. Owner Peter is friendly, friendly, HONEST and straight to the point kind of person. For breaks change Peter charged me a half of what dealership would. After the repair and brake change, he showed me old parts to prove and justify performed work. I noticed that their repair and tool areas are always clean and organized. I think it shows that staff takes their work seriously and it reflects on how they work too. Mecema Auto Repair Service is open on Saturdays. It is a benefit for most of us who work Monday through Friday. Mecema offers a shuttle service and this is a big plus too. I am happy to refer Mecema Auto Repair Services to my close friends and family.
Ken is hands down the best mechanic I've ever been to. Not only is he a great and experienced mechanic but, he is also HONEST. Something extremely rare to find in the automotive industry. He will show you exactly what's wrong with your car (and what you should fix first if you're on a budget), he never overcharges (in fact usually it's the opposite), and is very thorough in his work. In the couple years I've been going to him, I've never had a single problem with anything he's done to my car. Last week I took my car in for new brakes thinking I needed to replace everything. After taking them apart he calls and tells me the pads are fine, he just needs to machine the rotors and replace a caliper and I'll be set, instead of charging me for everything like I've had happen at other places. If you're looking for an experienced, cheap, reliable, friendly, honest mechanic who will treat you with respect as a customer instead of by how large your wallet is call Ken today. I'm very glad I found him.
If you have a Jeep (or any other car for that matter) stop searching for an auto shop. You just found the only honest one in America. I can't over emphasize that point. Stop searching because this is the only shop you would ever want to take your Jeep or 4x4. Dustin worked on my 1977 CJ5 (smog, suspension, lift, and various other things). Dustin is professional, honest, and straight forward. While other shops will usually low ball you with your problems enticing you to "just bring it in!", Dustin will always give you the worst case scenario up front so you're not blindsided in the end. If something doesn't need to be fixed, he'll tell you to save your money! If something does and he didn't include it in the estimate, he'll do it anyway. He'll work with you on your time schedule and is always responsive - reaching out to you to update you before you ever feel the need to pick up the phone. My one advice would be to call ahead and schedule an appointment as he's usually busy.
I went in on Sunday of Memorial day weekend because I received a letter in the mail about how they pay off cars even though you owe more than the car is worth. I had a 2007 prius and was in that exact predicament. I talked to Scott and he showed a 2011 prius with only 32,000 miles on it. I told him that my budget was only about $100 a month more that what my current payments were. He said it would be tight because my car was not worth that much but he did give me a fair trade price. I had to speak to my fiance about it first. Long story short, I came back the next day with her and Scott said "I will do what I have to do to get you in that car as long as my credit was good" (I have fantastic credit). Two hours later I left with my new-ish car and am feeling the opposite of buyers remorse. For those of you who do not understand that phrase, I feel great about my deal and love the car the more I drive it... Thanks Scott.
Have a good experience with Mecema Auto Repair and Service. The owner of the place is reliable and experienced who knows his job and how to fit my budges. I suggest this shop to all my friends. I always do service and my car regular maintenance here. Just recently I was driving from Inland Empire up to OC when my car broke down. I called Mecema and Peter (the owner of the shop) arranged the towing to his shop and it was late Friday night. He gave me the car to drive back home (no charge) promising me to fix it by next day afternoon. On Saturday afternoon I came to pick up my car, I was late but the mechanic patiently waited for me. In addition to the repair they did oil change for me and they didn't charge me for towing just for the parts that needed to be replaced. Thank you, Mecema Auto Repair and Service. I will defiantly will use your service again.
Thank you for your follow up letter concerning the recent purchase of my Prius. I love this little car and appreciate it even more after waiting over 8 months to finally get it. I was treated with respect and courtesy by extremely professional and capable people. I will specifically uphold James Szabo "JJ" as your key to my continued business. It was JJ along with the floor manager Cory who salvaged me as a loyal customer. My family has been buying cars and trucks from Toyota of Huntington Beach for many years. Now that the "kids" are grown and have children of our own, I'm sure that we will continue to come to you for our transportation needs. Why? "JJ". Now I can say with honesty that you have a satisfied, happy and loyal customer because of JJ and Toyota of Huntington Beach delivered!
Wow! What a great experience I had purchasing my 4Runner from your dealership! I received the best car buying experience with help of both Sales Manager Chris Wright and sales consultant William Monterossa. They truly made my car buying experience enjoyable! These guys really impressed me! There was no pressure to buy. They listened to my needs, and best of all, they were concerned about which type of vehicle I wanted, not just one that they could sell. I felt as if both of them went our of their way to make me happy and I sincerely enjoyed working with the both of them in my recent purchase. I plan on recommending your store to many other friends and co-workers, and I look forward to experiencing the same type of service through the years of servicing my 4Runner at your dealership!
HELLO AP, IT WAS A PLEASURE DOING BUSINESS, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY AP PROVED TO BE VERY RELIABLE & HONEST. I HAD TAKEN MY CAR TO A COUPLE OTHER SHOPS LOOKING FOR A STRAIGHT ANSWER TO ALL THE NOISES MY CAR WAS MAKING BUT WHEN I WOULD TELL THEM WHAT THE OTHER GUY SAID THEY WOULD WANT ME TO DO THE SAME I WASN'T CONVINCED THEY HAD MY BEST INTEREST IN MIND. SO WHEN I CAME TO AP CARS I AGAIN TOLD THEM WHAT HAD HAPPEN AT THOSE OTHER SHOP BUT AP CHECKED MY CAR ,WALKED ME THROUGH THE PROCESS ALWAYS TALKING TO ME, & ANSWERING MY QUESTIONS. THEY LET ME SEE THE PROBLEMS UP CLOSE ON MY CAR. & WHEN IT CAME TO PRICING IT WAS REASONABLE. EITHER WAY I WOULD OF PAID MORE, JUST FOR THE FACT THAT THEY ARE PROFESSIONAL & KEEP MY BEST INTEREST IN MIND. THANK YOU AP
Buyer be very aware!I purchased my new to me car a while back and did a pretty through inspection of the vehicle. Im no mechanic but I am not unfamiliar with vehicles. The sales teams mantra " Its on the CarFax" Everything seemed fine so I bought it. Later I find that there was damage that was intentionally hidden. Be it by the dealer or what ever auction place sold it to the dealer. The nature of the damage leads me to believe the dealer had to have known the repairs were made or made the shoddy repairs themselves. Body parts were super glued in place. The lesson cost me a couple thousand dollars to learn. Have your vehicle inspected by a reputable mechanic should you do business here. It is NOT all on the CarFax.
There are more than 700,000 auto service technicians and mechanics in the U.S. Finding the right one to repair a dent in your car door or fix an engine that won't start can be overwhelming, especially when it's an emergency. Review a few important facts about auto repair professionals and what you can do to get the best possible mechanic working on your vehicle's issues for a fair price.
Looking For Reliability
Unlike home repair services that evaluate a property, meet with homeowners and have time to prepare before their physical work begins, auto repair businesses are often asked to make fixes on the spot. If you come into a garage with a tire issue, the expectation is the mechanic will know how to correct that problem quickly.
That is why reliability is so vital when searching for a trusted auto repair shop. It may take going to several different mechanics before you find one you are truly comfortable with. Pose questions to this professional to find out what approach they will take to repair your car or what alternatives are available. Shopping around also gives you the best opportunity to find the cheapest rate or the fastest service, as some garages may be backed up with other vehicles that need repair first.
A recommended way to locate a trustworthy auto repair professional is to seek out customer reviews. Online sites offer honest opinions from real customers who have used a business. Read through this feedback to learn how a business operates and what you can expect if you were to take your vehicle there. Look for reviews about how quick maintenance was completed and if prices were fair. By learning what other people have said about a garage, you can gain a better idea if it's the right place to go when you have a car problem in need of fixing.
It can be difficult to know which automotive problems are serious enough to require expert assistance. A ripped seat cushion or broken radio don't involve safety and will not warrant enough of a problem that going into a garage is required. However, setbacks with brakes, lights and other parts that are vital to the safety of your car's driver and passengers, as well as others on the road, necessitate quick fixes. Many modern automobiles will notify drivers of an issue, in the form of a signal on the dashboard or a noise within the vehicle.
In the event of an accident, even if your vehicle does not appear to have any damage on the outside, it is generally recommended that you see a trusted auto repair professional. Internal damage may have occurred, or an important part may have been knocked out of place. Fixing these issues before driving much further can prevent further vehicle breakdowns in the future. In the case of a serious accident, a body shop can assess the problems and determine the best course of action for repairs, as well as evaluate how much they will cost.
Beyond that, regular checkups are recommended. Tires must be rotated, fluids needs to be replaced and the engine must be evaluated. After driving 25,000 miles, most auto dealers suggest having the vehicle checked out to ensure everything is running smoothly. Taking the car into the auto repair professional you trust will protect you from further problems down the road.
Not every type of auto repair work needs to be done by a certified mechanic. You can fix some of a vehicle's issues just by paying attention to how the automobile is running and having a basic understanding of auto repair. Look over the ways weather may impact your car and what preventative measures you can take to avoid having to take it into the shop. At the same time, be aware of mechanic scams that can impact your experience.
Preventing Trips To The Professional
Some fixes to your car can be done without paying a specialist. Issues like replacing oil and air filters are relatively simple, with instructions provided in the owner's manual on how to make these changes. The same goes for replacing broken windshield wipers or burnt-out headlights. Such issues should be repaired quickly to guarantee safety, but don't require a visit to a garage. By handling these types of tasks on your own, you'll gain a better understanding for how your car operates and save time and money.
Along with understanding how to fix manageable vehicle issues that may arise, taking preventative measures to avoid future problems is a valuable time saver. Many problem-solving best practices are related to the seasons. Your vehicle will be in different conditions in the winter than in the summer, meaning it requires a different type of preparation.
In the spring and summer, you want to be sure your air conditioner and cooling systems work correctly. Given the high temperatures the vehicle will be exposed to, overheating is a common problem. Look over the system by ensuring there is enough coolant available. If it needs to be refilled, it is best to open the hood and add more to the car before it gets too warm out. Also, clean out fan ducts and other ventilation sources necessary for summertime driving.
For winter driving, features such as the defroster, heater and exhaust system are paramount. Look in your owner's manual for specific directions on how features should be checked and repaired. Many newer cars have a cabin air filter that can be replaced when needed, allowing warm air to continue to flow in. Also, check your tires before winter driving, as they need to be at the proper pressure to perform well on snow and ice.
There is a common worry among many people that auto repair professionals take advantage of the general public. Because so many people are unaware of how to fix the problems in their vehicle, they are nervous of being overcharged by mechanics or worried that the improper work is being done.
While the great majority of professionals in the industry are honest, hard-working people, a few bad apples can ruin everything. You should be extra careful when first visiting a mechanic to guarantee that the price you're charged and maintenance the vehicle receives are fair.
Among the common scams pulled are needless repairs, where a garage charges you for work that isn't necessary. Another popular one is attracting customers through a cheap oil change or tire pressure check. Then, when you are in the shop and your car is being repaired, they give you a long list of other corrections they'd like to make, therefore boosting the total cost of your bill.
The best way to combat these types of problems is getting a written estimate before work is done. That way, you can see how much repairs are expected to cost. If the final bill is higher than the estimate projected, ask to specifically see the work. Make sure information is put in writing as well. If a problem remains, you can have proof that work was not done to your satisfaction.
By working closely with an auto repair professional and doing some of the tune-up work on your own, you will be less likely to fall for these scams. At the same time, you'll be able to drive out with a clean and healthy vehicle, thanks to the repairs made by a trained professional.
