We had reservations at 6:30 and were left standing for at least 10 minutes while they figured out where to put us. Despite the fact that there were several vacant tables in the front, we were told we would have to sit in the back. When we asked why we were told that those vacant tables were being saved for 7:30 reservations. Food was just o.k., restaurant was noisy, ambiance was poor for the price of the menu (no table cloths), and the menu was pricey - my portion $55.00 for an entree, salad and coffee. Definitely will not go back. The worst was how were were treated by the hostess.

Went there for a birthday celebration on this past Sunday. We had a party of 10 people. We have dined there in the past and always had a great experience. This experience was minus 10 dining experience. It did not appear they were short on staff, but waiter was not attentive. It was so bad that my Uncle was asking the bus boy for things, and I asked another waiter to find our server. It was an early dinner as we got there at 6:30 had drinks before dinner. However when I placed my order I requested a baked potatoe instead of fries. When my food was delivered there were fries on my plate. No biggie I thought, I will just inform the waiter. He went off the the kitchen, and came back to tell me that they had no more baked potatoes. When they knew they were short would it have been so hard to see if I might like another menu item in place of fries,? I was just given fries. Not wanting to make this anymore unpleasant for my family. I just took the fries, everyone's meal was just lukewarm. My uncle who was luckly enough to get a baked potatoe, was served a cold one, had to be re-heated, cause they could not serve him a fresh one. My sister's fries cold as ice. They did manage to bring her out a new batch. Once dinner was over, we had after dinner drinks, had to ask the waiter to show us the dessert tray???Should this have not been done automatically. Only one person ordered dessert, however it took him so long to show the dessert tray I think others would have partaken they were just ready to go. Two of the members of party had to leave as the rest of us were either eating dessert or having after dinner drinks. The two members that left early paid their portion of the meal via credit card. Today one friends that left early discoverd she was charged for everyone's meal plus her orginial charge. The other friend was charged twice for her charge. When we asked why couldn't the two people who charged their meals be back out the orginial bill and new bill issued the waiter told us not there policy. So we dealt with this still not understanding. It took them over 25 minutes to figure out the bill, and this is with assistance of the manager Tommy. Found out through another waiter that manager was assisting him because we had to ask another waiter why it was taking so long for us to get the charged bill because we gave him a credit card for the final charge. This waiter told us manager was handling the charge so if the the manager was handling and these mistakes were done, wow! The manager by the way customer service stinks! I personally spoke to him to verifiy the acutal total charge was correct and on one person's card. He kept on saying there was one mistake to the card, and I explained to him that he was incorrect. There were 2 mistakes with credit card charges and the service was not up to the service level that we have had in the past. He then informed me that we should have addressed our concerns with him that night. I explained it was a large party and we did not want to put a damper on my cousin's party. I told him we have done several holiday celebrations there in the past, my brother has several business lunch/dinner meetings there almost monthly as matter of fact, the other waiters know him by name. Tommy Mandola did not seem to think much of this, and his apology was weak, and did not seem sincere. I will think twice about dinning here!

While visiting some friends in Houston a couple weeks ago we made the mistake of dining at Tony Mandola?s. While being underdressed compared to most of the patrons there, I felt we were way overdressed for the atmosphere within the restaurant. It?s not that nice and loud, the food was mediocre for the price and the waiter was very arrogant. I think he forgot the difference between the customer and the server. We will never come back and will discourage anyone to go there.

We had a holiday party for 40 guests and the catering was fabulous. They delivered everything from patio heaters to elaborate floral table decorations. They set everything up, served and tore down without the guests even noticing them. The food was delicious and it was very reasonable. Our guests had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere the caterers exhibited.

I visited Tony Mandola's last night and both the food and service was extremely dissappointing. I will never go back. First, the hostess was rude upon entry. Second, our waiter was in absentia. Part of this was related to the fact that our waiter was waiting tables both inside and outside. This has to be the dumbest waistaff management decision ever. I saw my waiter, but only as we watched him walk in and out of the patio area, NEVER coming to our table. The food was mediocre. My food was truly bad, but the waiter did not appear until he presented up with our bill. My companions' fish was all overcooked. We had to request every refill for our table. An item we ordered was never delivered to our table, but was included on our bill. I pointed out to the waiter he would not notice such a thing because he never returned to the table to see if we enjoyed the food or needed anything further.

My boyfriend and I dined there last night, and though the food was excellent, the service both at the bar and in the dining room was amateur. It was more than 5 minutes before the bartender acknowledged us, and another 5 minutes before he returned to take our drink orders. The bar was not overly busy, and in fact, 2 gentlemen standing next to us also commented to one another that the service was really slow.
So onto dinner . . . . our regular waiter, David, who is exceptional, was not available. Instead, we were treated to a most distasteful experience. Our waitress was scatter-brained taking our drink and dinner orders. My boyfriend ordered his fish without pico de gallo and specifically asked her to ensure it was left off the plate. The fish was covered in pico. After enjoying a nice glass of wine, she asked whether I wanted another. 10 minutes elapsed and still no wine. When asked about the wine, she seemed perplexed. But then she quickly recovered by saying ""oh, well there's a bottle neck at the bar tonight."" There were only 4 flies at the bar!
Normally we would have stayed for dessert, but we couldn't wait to see the valet attendant. We even left most of the second glass of tardy wine on the table. Bummer, that was good wine! We'll definitely be back, but only with assurances of sitting in David, or some our other favorite's sections.

I dined here with my wife tonight. After being seated promptly, we ordered wine, cocktails and shrimp stuffed jalapenos. However, after that it all went downhill. The shrimp were not de-veined; the site of shrimp excrement in our food was extremely unpleasant. For our entree we ordered Snapper Decedent, which did not arrive hot. The worst part of the night occurred when the owner?s son, Tommy came out. You will recognize Tommy with his greasy hair and extreme arrogance. He walked by every table around us and greeting the patrons, however, when he walked by our table we received a mere sneer like we didn't belong there. Houston has a lot of restaurants that are really good - but don't come to ""Fony's Gulf Coast Kitchen"" for that.

I was truly disappointed to find the shrimp in their appetizer made of picante sauce, shrimp and avocado (an extremely delightful blend) with veins. I heard that they have excellent seafood gumbo and was tempted to order some. However, our waiter confirmed that they also do not devein the shrimp in the gumbo. What a turnoff! You can never go wrong with the banana keylime pie, jus the right balance of tartness/sweetness.

I have had the misfortune to eat here twice. People have raved about the seafood and the atmosphere. We tried a fried calamari/shrimp/crabmeat appetizer combination. If you like greasy, oily calamari with an insipid dipping sauce served in cheapo disposable plastic cups, this is for you! The first time I ordered their seafood lasagna - a greasy disaster. My partner's seafood linguini swam in clarified butter. The second time, as a precaution, I ordered the grilled fillet mignon in the vain hope of avoiding excessive grease. Unfortunately, my steak did not escape being drowned in clarified butter. The selection of wines by the glass left a great deal to be desired. My cabernet sauvignon at $9.50 a glass was as rough as sand-paper. A restaurant charging what Tony Manddola's does should be able to provide decent bread, not packets of saltines that you find in cafeterias - the bread you get if you ask for it, is pathetic. Finally, it seems incongruous that what is deemed to be a high-class restaurant serves sauces and fillings for baked potatoes in plastic cups. The one star rating is for the friendly waiters.

Whenever we're stumped on where to dine, we always end up here! It's a favorite! The atmosphere is warm and cozy and the menu offers a terrific variety. It caters to all cravings. You can't go wrong with any dish. Dining outside is great when the weather is right. Managers always mingle with the guests to ensure satisfaction. They offer a generous bar menu. Great happy hour! Service is sometimes unpredictable depending on your waiter.

I've been going to this place for years. I love the atmosphere, the drinks and the food but one recurring problem keeps me from going there more often. I always make reservations and have begun requesting specfic tables although you'll be told that they don't take reservations for specifc tables. But, invariably, we will be taken to whatever is the worst open table in the restaurant. They seem to try to ""save"" the best tables though I can't imagine why they would slight their customers who have made reservations. Only the Maitre 'D/Greeter and the seating is a problem. Once seated, the waiters have always been gracious and responsive.

Me and my wife went to Tony Mandola's Gulf Coast Kitchen for dinner. We had reservations. Two couples that came in after us were seated before us even though our reservations were the same time theirs was. They came in considerably after us and given that I was standing right in front of the hostess I considered it unforgivable. They actually went to the bar and grabbed one of the couples from the crowded bar before they sat us down. If not worse the Manager had a get over it attitude. Would not recommend this restaurant. And it's not the first time it's happened to us there but it was the last.

We were in Houston looking for a memorable dining spot. Not too fancy for jeans, but with great food. This was it. The food was wonderful, the drinks had a kick and the service was great. Its not cheap, but in life, you get what you pay for. A really memorable place.

Mandolas has always been a favorite with consistently good seafood and a comfortable, relaxing atmosphere. On our last visit President Bush, Sr. and Mrs. Bush sat at the table next to us. Can't get much of a better recommendation than that! Don't miss the fresh oysters when in season...the best in town and reasonable priced.
