You can't beat this place. The atmosphere is romantic and upscale, the food is absolutely YUMMY, with a wide variety of options. I've sat everywhere in this restaurant, from the bar, to the patio, near the live music stage, and even had my rehearsal dinner party in the upstairs private-bar room with a balcony overlooking the restaurant and stage. Absolutely amazing restaurant in the walkable heart of downtown Houston. From day one I interfaced with Erica at Sambuca and she is above and beyond the best!

The best!

I had been here many years ago and decided to take my husband with me a few nights ago. We were both impressed. I had my usual, seafood integration and we ordered the buca beignets. The toffee pudding is also incredible. He commented that his steak was perfect. The only complaint that I have (which doesn't make me change my 5* review) is that the portion sizes are way too small. His steak was around $30.00 for a tiny filet. I know this is fine dining, but they should up the portion sizes. The music was fine, we didn't really pay that much attention to it. The restaurant isn't really a quiet place, but we didn't mind. We will definitely be back.

The ONLY place downtown I'll eat lunch

I work across the street, and try to get to Sambuca for lunch at least 2-3 times per week. I've had the blackened snapper, which was awesome, but a little too large of a portion for me. My favorites are the lobster enchiladas and the fish tacos. I go right at noon and they are usually pretty busy, but I've only had to wait for a table a handful of times. Amy the bartender is awesome and the tall, lighter haired manager always comes by and says hello.

Theres a reason no one is in your place for lunch

I cant speak for what goes on for evening but as far as lunch goes i cant fathom how they still stay open. Food is borderline garbage, blackened snapper etoufee as they call is taste like flour oil and dirty rice from lubys. Guess what thats not etoufee. Besides the food the service is always horrible and theres never anyone in there. Never again will my coworkers convince me to eat there.

Everything was great and we will return!

I love the live music. The music was not too loud and perfect for me and my friends to chat. The food was awesome, we had a great time. I had the lobster enchiladas and a mohito. I will return soon.

Dinnner, drinks, and dancing

Sambuca is one of my favorite places, i love going with groups. Its the kind of place to go with good friends not acquaintances- it gets VERY loud with the music so don't expect to be able to hear each other across the table and make small talk. Expect to get tipsy and maybe do a little dancing.

The food is pretty good, i like to get a bunch of their small plates- aka appetizers. I have never had bad service, from the hostesses to the bartenders to the servers and managers. I really love this place. I do wish the music could be just a wee bit softer, but thats ok.

Dance the Night Away

Sambuca has become a nationally recognized name for combining fine dining with live music seven nights a week. Sambuca Houston, located in Houston’s historic Rice Hotel, offers a variety of American cuisine satisfying every taste bud. From pizzas, calamari and other shared appetizers to grilled beef tenderloin and miso-glazed sea bass, the menu is sure to please everyone.

Sambuca features live music, which spans a variety of styles, including soft rock, pop, classic rock, sultry singers, jazz, R & B, crooners, and Latin rhythms. Live jazz entertainment plays nightly. Bands are mostly local, but the management books at least one national act a month. A cover charge only applies for national acts, and the amount varies. Think of a lounge with a bordello-like appeal and you are probably thinking of this downtown hot spot. The cigar room alone is worth a visit. The menu features seafood and Mediterranean-style pasta dishes.

The Good:
Food:
Excellent with good-sized of the portions.
Excellent Osso Buco, amazing new sea bass, and outstanding crab cakes.

Service:
The service at Sambuca is good. The staff were attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and very helpful. All in all, the service here is very good.

Atmosphere:
Sambuca is hard to beat with its combination of romantic ambiance, music and friendly service.

The Bad:
Noise. It can get quite noisy in this particular restaurant. In all fairness, this should come as no surprise considering the live music and popular dance floor. If you are looking for a quiet evening I recommend you go elsewhere.

Sambuca is not cheap. Prices are on the high side, but the quality of the food helps to soften the blow.

The Final Verdict:
I recommend Sambuca for the great atmosphere, the wonderful food, live music and dancing.

Great Times and Wonderful Music

Me and my group went to Sambuca this past weekend. It's been a while since we made the visit. I used to live Downtown and now I live off of Washington Street. Sambuca is still awesome! The band name was FM and they were the so much fun.. I ordered the Seabass skewers for our appetizer, oh my gosh delicious. For dinner I had the Lamb Chops and they were the best. My girlfriend ordered the Halibut, she loved it. Sambuca is the only reason why I miss living downtown. Keep up the good work Sambuca.

Very Nice Experience

I went to this place on a Monday for a first date. The vibe was perfect. It wasn't crowded, the waitstaff was attentive, and the jazz band was phenomenal.

Me and my date got their about 7 and didn't leave until 10. We even got a chance to cut a rug on the dance floor.

I ordered the filet and my date she ordered the filet as well, it was adequate but I thought the portion was small.

All in all, I would definitely go back. Wish there were more spots around town like this!

PROS: Music and Atmosphere
CONS: Price of Food

Wow!

The only thing about this place is the price, but the food was great. everything was cooked right, the music was jammin, the staff were quick. One other thing, the bathroom up stairs is called the water closet (W.C.) not that its bad, its just right nexted to the tables, and that could be a little weird..

Best Brunch!

My family and i went to Sambuca for Easter brunch and let me tell you it was worth every penny!!! The live music made the day that more special and the food was TO DIE for. There wasn't an empty stomach anywhere near our table. I will for sure return for Mother's Day Brunch. I have been to Sambuca many times for happy hour and dinner but who knew they could master brunch.

Genuine supper club in the heart of Houston

I have to admit that I am madly in love with the concept behind Sambuca. If it were up to me, the old fashioned supper club would prevail and dominate nightlife everywhere. We would all dress in cocktail attire and nibble on old school staples of elegance such as escargot interspersed with dancing to live big band jazz.
Unfortunately, this no long exists in the modern world. Sambuca is a remnant of those times and evidence that a few people out there still enjoy a sophisticated night out. While their cuisine is neither innovative or particularly impressive, it is consistently well-prepared. I prefer to simply order a drink and take in the atmosphere during the rare moments that I am not out on the dance floor.
Music ranges widely so check the calender to suit your taste. Bands tend to be impressive and talented, the blues rock cover bands as much as the latin jazz.

Sambuca Houston off the Charts

I love love love this place!! This is my favorite place to bring all of my friends and out of town visitor's to show them a good time. I hear this constant buzz about Sambuca all over town and now I'm going to lend my voice! If you ever want to go out and be pampered and lavished with great food and live entertainment go to SAMBUCA!! They are located in the bottom of the historic Rice Hotel and this place is absolutely beautiful on the inside. Don't take my word for it check it out for yourself. I give it ten thumbs up!!

My awful experience

It was a Valentine’s Day. I and my two girlfriends went to see a show; afterwards we decided to go to a nice restaurant. I offered Sambuca, always wanted to go to see if it’s as good as the reviews say. So, we go inside, there some other guests waiting. It looks like all the stuff just came in. It was few minutes after five, I asked hostess when they open for dinner, she said 5 (she was busy doing her preparation for the dinner and even asked us to move to put the carpet on the floor). Hmmm…. Restaurant looked totally unprepared. And it was after 5… So, we staying there for about 5 more minutes, then comes the girl who looks like she’s in charge, and asking everyone to go outside. It was chilly outside; one of my friends was in a light cocktail dress, so we decided to stay inside the restaurant. 5 more minutes passed…. nobody even talked to us. So, we go outside, there’s already a line of people, girl is checking everyone’s reservation, looks very busy with it. NOBODY from hostesses never talked or greeted us. Finally, I’m asking if we can have a table for 3. The answer is: “Sorry, we all booked for tonight”. I asked ”Is there any other options?” (she should offered that but didn’t even bother). “Well, you can have table at the bar….Sorry.”
I used to be a waitress, and I know how busy it can be on Valentine’s Day, but this is not an excuse to treat your guests like they are not worth to be in such highly-booked place. We went to Birraporetti’s that evening, had a great time, everything was perfect. I am definitely never coming back to that rudeness in Sambuca.

Sambuca has a great location, great decor, great service, and so-so food.

Sambuca is in a great location, right downtown. The decor is swanky, and I mean that as a compliment. The main restaurant area is very nicely furnished and I loved the dim lighting which made for a romantic atmosphere. We dined upstairs where the lighting was brighter but furnished nicely.

The service was great. The food not so great. The portions are small which is fine with me. And the prices are high, which it being downtown is ok too, but the food itself is so-so. I had the Margarita shrimp. The shrimp were grilled well but the tequila-lime sauce didn't work and the rice was dry. A friend had the lobster enchiladas which didn't inspire either.

This place makes me feel old

I have been to this bar a couple of times. It is a good place to start the night. Our waitress was ok. She was good looking and that is important to us...haha. The drinks were expensive but it was worth it. One could taste the alcohol. You will find older crowd here. The dance floor is small and not many people will be dancing. I think it was latin night went we went. They played a lot of salsa, bachata, etc. The bar does not get very crowded. Overall it is a good place to hang out. Pleople in this club dress casual but pretty.

Great Food, Horrible Service

I had the blackened snapper. It was really really good. What wasn't good was the service. Our waiter wreaked of cigarette smoke. I had to grab his attention numerous times to order wine to have him clear the table. At the beginning he came by the table to tell us he was taking care of us and left without asking what we wanted for drinks. He served one person dessert and didn't ask anybody else if we wanted dessert. He served my dessert wine and took 10 minutes to give me my dessert and my wine got hot. I will not be going back.
