The term “impacted” describes a tooth that does not fully erupt from the gums. Wisdom teeth may be fully impacted, which means that the crown never breaks through the gum surface, or they may be partially impacted, which means only part of the tooth erupts. Impaction typically occurs because the mouth is too small to accommodate the wisdom teeth. Impacted wisdom teeth have the potential to cause a number of serious dental complications, including increased risk of tooth decay and infection, potential to damage other teeth and oral structures, and possibility of shifting the smile out of alignment. Additionally, a cyst may develop around the impacted tooth, leading to nerve, jawbone, or tooth damage.
Bridges
Of course, tooth loss isn’t always as simple as one individual tooth falling out at a time. In some cases, patients have a much larger gap to contend with. Dental bridges are often used to replace multiple teeth at once, but when they’re attached to dental implants, you’ll enjoy all of their benefits without having to make permanent alterations to your natural teeth. It takes two dental implants to support a bridge that replaces at least three consecutive teeth. If you are missing only two teeth in a row, you may require just one dental implant.

Root Canal Treatment
When a tooth becomes sensitive or has deep decay, sometimes a root canal is necessary to remove the diseased tissue (blood vessels, connective tissue, and nerves) from the inside of the tooth. This tissue lies in a canal in the center of the root. During a root canal, an access hole is made in the top of the tooth and small instruments are used to remove this tissue and reshape the often flat or ribbon-shaped canal into a more rounded profile. Once this is accomplished, the canal is sealed with a filling material to keep any residual diseased tissue from leaking out into the surrounding bone and causing irritation or infection. The goal of the root canal is twofold: one, to remove the tissue in the canal, and two, to seal the canal, especially in the portion near the tip of the root.
Apicoectomy
The third option is apical surgery (apicoectomy). This involves accessing the tip of the root directly and removing the diseased tissue, then preparing and filling the root tip itself. By making an incision in the gum tissue overlying the tooth, your surgeon then accesses the tip of the root. The root tip is then cut off and a small preparation or filling is made in the root tip itself and filled with a sealer to prevent further leakage of material out of the tooth. After a brief healing period, the gum tissue returns to normal.

What will you need to plan for when budgeting for wisdom tooth extraction? The cost of your treatment will include the removal procedure itself, the anesthetic or sedation options you request, your consultation, preliminary X-rays and imaging, and any preparatory procedures you may need. Depending on the state of your oral health, you may need a dental deep cleaning to minimize your risk of infection or complication after your wisdom tooth extraction. If your wisdom tooth is severely impacted or damaging other teeth, advanced imaging may be needed to capture important details that can’t be seen with an X-ray.

The word "orthognathic" is derived from the Greek words ortho meaning straight, and gnathos meaning jaws. The term "orthognathic surgery" refers to a variety of procedures designed to move the upper and/or lower jaws into different, more appropriate positions. There are some individuals whose upper and lower jaws do not fit together in an appropriate fashion. This is usually noticed either by disharmonies in their appearance or in difficulties with the way the teeth fit together or both. Classically, patients with severe "over" or "underbite" problems may have noticeable changes in their appearance, most often visible in their profile. Their chin or mandible (lower jaw) may appear to jut out or, in contrast, may appear to be underdeveloped. In other patients, bite problems may not be so severe that their appearance is noticeably changed, but the teeth will not fit together appropriately. Both will likely notice some difficulty with biting and chewing food. Occasionally, malpositioned teeth may cause such bite problems; however, if the bite is significantly off, it is likely that there is a jaw discrepancy as well. Discrepancies in the size or fit of the upper and lower jaw are most often developmental problems that occur because there is uneven growth in the facial skeleton. Orthognathic surgery was developed to correct these jaw discrepancies by moving the affected jaw(s) into their appropriate position. Tooth Extractions
Bone Grafting

Orthodontics
Additionally, phase 1 orthodontics may be recommended for children who have cleft palate or lip repair. Palatal expanders are the most common phase 1 orthodontic treatments recommended for kids who have clefts. These orthodontic appliances are used to expand the palate, ensuring there is adequate space for the development of healthy adult teeth.
Braces
Traumatic injuries to the face, appropriately treated, generally heal quite well. Although complications are rare, they can occur with any type of treatment. Fractures involving the orbits often produce diplopia (double vision) as a consequence of the traumatic changes to the bones surrounding the eye. Treatment is generally directed to remediating these changes, but rarely, visual changes can persist after initial treatment, necessitating further care. Likewise, numbness to the skin of the cheek or lips is often a consequence of facial fractures and may persist even after surgery. Fractures of the jaws can lead to changes in the bite that may require braces to correct, TMJ pain and dysfunction, loss of teeth, and numbness to the lips and tongue. With our current knowledge and surgical experience, the treatment of facial, jaw, and dental fractures is safe, predictable, and provides excellent results for most patients.
