The place looks cool but the price is way out of line for what they provide you.they tell you how tall there meat is stacked but it is just wadded right in the middle of the bread, they put a nasty rotten slaw on it the sandwich 2/3rd's of the bread was empty I bought a Ruben with chips and a bottle of water! $25 ! It was not worth half that ! total tourist trap! Employees were very uninterested in the costomer! Omg

Cocktails are all 9$ each.

Waiter should not reach over your food to get your water glass or iced tea glass to refill it.

They charge $ .65 for extra salad dressing.

Seems that there are always new wait staff, high turnover?

Never know when the upstairs dining room will be closed. I don't like being seated next to the windows on Westheimer, feels like I'm eating on the sidewalk or that a car might careen into me. just saying -Food is fine and the service is acceptable.

Very big sandwiches, fresh ingredients, and pretty much no waiting. Good desserts too. Open all the time is a bonus since I work odd hours sometimes. I would recommend.

Katz's is Kool!

Hadn't been here for a while. (Actually, years) and had forgotten what a nice atmosphere this place has. And a great variety of people come here. The Ruben's are great! The fried Pickles yummy, the Cheesecake shakes addictive... this is not health food is it? I love it though. The bar is better than I remember too.

Never again

Katz's ads say ""we never close"". So on this Saturday morning around 5:00 AM, I decide to get bagels to go. I order 2 bagels with lox - $12.49 each, 1 plain - $2.99, 1 whole wheat - $2.99, 1 everything - $2.99. To go tip - $1.59. Tax - $2.68. Total - $36.07.

When I get home I find that all 5 bagels are STALE. Apparently, they did not make the bagels in the morning. Luckily, the purchase was made by credit card and I have recourse.

A bit bland

Been twice and have to say it's just ok. Friends liked it somewhat but both times felt the food was bland, and overpriced. Friendly waiters.

General review

The ambiance of the Deli is not dissimilar to that of a small New York Deli and over the year they have modernized. Years ago when you entred the meat counter was directly in the front of the deli so the carving was visible. Now it is obscured in the rear behind closed doors. The staff at the noon hour is quit busy but not so busy that they can't properly great you. We were rapidly seated and greated by our waitress Samantha. Bothe sandwiches were order and delivered fairly quickly with Kosher Dills and cole slaw. These accompliments were both very good. Now for the sandwiches: My guest had the cornedbeef/sourkraut on toasted rye and was impressed with the size (stacked high pyramid style) and enjoyed the taste as well) I had the tongue on rye displayed the same way, but, being a New Yorker and of a discerning heritage can be a little more critical. Although the rye was good it was hardly the right size cut to fit the meat.(It is an attempt to make the presentation look larger at less of a cost) The amount of tongue was more than adequate and would have been better with a slightly larger cut of rye. The tongue was properly cut (thin) and tasty but had to much salt in the preparation. This is not consistant with the last time I ate there. I was greated by a manage and expressed that comment and was left with a smile and an okay as he went about something else as if not to care. I left a good tip for the waitress as she showed proper attention to us as customers. I didn't discuss any of the items I mentioned to the manager.

A Touch of NYC

This is the place to celebrate Hanukkah. Eating fried foods are symbolic of the oil that miraculously burned for 8 days.

The potato latkes were crispy and savory with the sour cream and applesauce. I had an egg white omelette with deli meats. My friend had their corned beef and said it was the best she had ever eaten.

We also had 99 cent frozen mimosas, and they were not too sweet and not very potent.

The customer service was not detail-oriented. We had to ask for a set of utensils, butter for the toast, to clear the table, and it was not busy.

I'm in love with Katz's

I've been going to Katz's for at least 5 years and it just makes me happy. In that time I think I've had one slightly negative experience. They ran out of fried pickles! If you haven't tried them, go right now and get an order! They are amazing! I've never been disappointed with the food or service. It's reliably great. The only thing that I don't like is the parking. If you go when the restaurant is even remotely busy you have to park across the street. Dodging cars on Montrose isn't exactly my favorite activity, but it's still worth it for Katz's.

disgasted food in a metal dish like you are a dog or sometn

They do not know nothing about this dish, it calls "" borsh"" it's ukrainian dish and serves hot as a soup. They serve that cold and it looks like they spent on than no more then 10 cents. There is nothing in that, just red water. I did not want to eat that after I tried it, but i paid for that.

first time visitor-definite to return

my girlfriend and i were downtown for a concert when a friend suggested going to this place. we were both very happy with the expereince. it was 1 in the morning and the people that work here were having as much fun as we were. we had drinks called holy mary's, like a bloody mary but spicier. very tasty drink. menu a little big but we finally decided on breakfast which was a little different than we expected. the pancakes of potato were great; they serve them with apple sauce! our server was great (christian) we were surprised to find that he had only been working there for a month-he was great. very enjoyable experience
we will definitley be going back-

Going downhill :(

My friends, family, and I have been going to Katz's for years and have always enjoyed it. We enjoy it so much that we drive from all parts of town to meet at this place. True, the service can at times be slow, but who cares when you're with good company and the food is good. Yes, it's pricey..but when you get great ingredients you don't mind paying more. Lately, this has not been the case. While the prices have not increased, the quality of food you get is way down from what it used to be. I almost always ordered the Scottish Salmon sandwich and you normally have to pick off some salmon to fit the thing in your mouth. The width of the bread is normally so large that you have to hold half the sandwich with two hands. This last time...neither of these compliments were true :( There were a few slivers of salmon (quality lacking) and the half-sandwich could be held with one hand. I'm sorry, but for $13 I want to see a mound of salmon in front of me...it's after all, just a sandwich with NO sides. Where is the Katz's I used to love?!?!? The order of fried pickles was reduced in size and the desserts were miniscule compared to the countless previous visits. I would rather pay more for what I used to get, rather than pay the same amount and get totally hosed! We spent $60 for an app, two sandwiches (no sides), and 2 desserts. That amount of food back in the day would have you ""knocked up with a food baby""...aka completely and miserably full! I don't think I'll make the drive for Katz's any more...I'm so bummed!

If anyone from Katz's reads this don't blame the prices on the cost of gas...it was pricey before, now it's just plain greed! You don't s**t where you eat!

Ordinary food at an extraordinary price

We went to this place on a Sunday morning because we were looking for somewhere to eat breakfast and Huddle House was closed. Its definitely not the place to go to if you're looking for standard breakfast fare (biscuits and gravy, etc). I had the corned beef hash with eggs and a cinnamon roll. It was all right. The service was decent, it wasn't too crowded. All in all in wasn't a horrible breakfast till the check came. The total for both of our meals was $30. For breakfast. For $30, you could go to any number of all you can eat breakfast buffets both good and bad. I could have picked up two hobos on the way to Huddle House and fed them and us for the same amount. This wouldn't be a problem if our breakfast at Katz's was awesome. But it was far from awesome. It was on par with Denny's and was just average. I wouldn't write this place off because we did just have one meal there though. Who knows? Maybe they have good $12 sandwiches.

after-hours hangover too much food

I agree with some of the more negative reviews. I just don't understand why it's so expensive. I had one of the veggie sandwiches, and while huge, the ingredients weren't that fresh.. The avocado was already brown by the time it got to my table. The Scottish salmon sandwich consisted of 3-4 capers, a sliver of smoked salmon and half a tub of cream cheese. The table in front of me ordered meals that were probably the size of something I'd eat in 3 days time and yet they finished it all. If you like huge portions of average fare, then com here. Although, I remember going to Katz's a few times in the Austin location for the after-hours aspect.. Other than Chacho's all the way on the opposite side of westheimer, you won't find a better after-hours food joint. I will say that while I previously hated pickles and fried stuff, I sometimes find myself craving their fried pickles. Since then, I've hunted and discovered nobody makes them in spears like Katz's.. Best drunk food ever!

Great Eats!!!!!!

I have been a loyal costumer at Katz's for almost 7 years now. I try to do as often as possible. Love the fact that it's open 24 hours and the service has always been friendly. My favorites are the huge Reuben that can be taken home and eaten the next day and taste even better. The chocolate cheesecake shake is sinful. And the matzoh ball soup and fried pickles are a must try!.

Solid food, HEFTY prices

While this isn't a place I dine frequently, I do make it here once a month, maybe once every 6 weeks. Either way, I don't think I've ordered a bad meal here. Their reubens are tasty, but nothing you couldn't make at home, and probably not worth the price. Frequently I get their side combo plate, my favourites being the knish, the potato pancake, the stuffed potato, their soups of the day (LOVE the split pea--only place I'll eat it), ceasar salad (house salad is pretty lame), and their seasonal fruit. The Lisa waffle is a pretty solid desert as well. As much as I enjoy the experience, I don't go very often because it IS so terribly expensive. I mean, their drinks start at about 8-9 dollars, and it's cheaper to get a draft beer than it is to get a soda. Granted, the soda's refilable, but you get the point. No matter what you do, though, make sure you get them to bring you plenty of their pickles... the slaw is very hit-or-miss, and I wouldn't even bother giving it a try unless you're a slaw person. Looking for a cheap eat there? Get the breakfast tacos. 3 egg & firedog tacos for like 5 bucks. You can't get a cheaper meal on their menu, AND they're good.
