I went there to buy 100 x 2cf bags of mulch. My truck can only hold about 30 in one trip. I explain that I'd like to buy the mulch and make a few trips since I have no trailer and the lady working there, who didn't speak much English, said; ""No.""
So I asked if I could see how many would fit in the truck and buy them on each trip and she again said; ""No.""
So I said; ""OK, what if I buy too many bags and they don't all fit in the truck?"" To this she just shrugged her shoulders and said; ""maybe no.""
Then she called someone on the phone and they chatted in Spanish. Then she looked at me and said; ""No.""
I'm still not even sure she understood a word I said, and she acted as if I was interrupting something more important. I took a handful of gardening tools (worth about $100) back to the rack and replaced them and walked out feeling like I was in the Twilight Zone. I got home and looked up the website for Houston Garden Center to try and reach someone to let them know they are losing business at this location. There's no email address or phone number to call. I guess they don't care about the business. Me either, I won't go back.
I'll head over to Lowes and see how that goes.
I went to the location at I-45 and Rayford/Sawdust on Saturday morning. I waited fifteen minutes for assistance. The Manager and cashier were in the parking lot and checking out a large truck. The Manager was also smoking. It was hilarious because other customers were looking for employees. As an accountant, I would fire the cashier for leaving her cash register unattended. A huge, huge internal control gap. Needless to say, people left and the Hooper family lost a few sales. I think the staff either needs to be retrained or replaced for these issues.

So, we had our Christmas tree for about 10 days, decorated and with all of the trimmings. Then it died, called to ask if they could replace the tree and all I got was ""all sales are fnal"" and then silence. Told her that was ridiculous and all I got was more silence. So we are currently (2 days away now) looking for another tree. That is a $100 dollars down the drain.
Customer service is definitely not at the top of their list.
I have never really had much problems with loading. But then again I usually do it myself. I do get very irritated with not being able to find anyone that can give you help. I am also offended that they hire all these people that are not legal, can't or won't speak english. When they do have the half price sale I have found that most of the time only half of what I buy lives... so I am not getting a deal. After reading all these other reviews I have decided that I will shop somewhere else from now on.. maybe if more people stuck to there guns about not shopping there they would pay more attention.

Does this location have a phone number besides the 713-433-6994 ?? No matter what time of day you call, you always seem to get a fax machine. I bought a fax machine just to send them one to ask them to answer the phone.... STILL NO LUCK...WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE BY FAR... TWO THUMBS DOWN HOUSTON GARDEN CENTER / PEARLAND.

I'm not even sure where to start ; might as well be the horrendous customer service. We had to search for help, and, when we finally found one person who worked there, he couldn't speak a word of English and looked blank when we showed him the small branch of the plant we were looking for. He pointed towards the cashiers, who were lounging and deep in conversation which they were VERY disgruntled at having interrupted for something as ridiculous as helping a customer. The woman actually sighed deeply in disgust when she realized we weren't going away after she pointed in the direction we had just been. I told her we already had been through the entire store and didn't see what we were looking for. She pointed toward the booth where another non-English speaking couple leaned against the booth in conversation, and also pointed, this time in a different direction. Unbelievable!! We did go to that direction and find what we were looking for but at that point there was no way I was ever going to spend a penny supporting any establishment that cares so little for its customers that it has a no-return, no exchange policy, even if you haven't even left the property, and which hires illegals, who are rude and uncaring. This place is a customer's worst nightmare, and I can see from reading all these previous reviews, that this is the MO of this business. Shop ANYWHERE but here, folks!

I shopped at the Garden Center off 290 and Telge store last Friday evening. I was not pleased with their service. It seems like every time I shop at any of the locations the staff deso not have the knowledge of any of their inventory. They cannot speak English and they do not know what is on sale, much less the name of the plants. I had a long list of what I was buying, the gal size and the price of their sale ad. I could not get anyone to help me with locating these items. I had a coupon to save a little money. I question the cashier about the amount of the sale and she didn’t understand me at all. She ran my purchase through on my credit card. But when I got home to look at my receipt it looks like the cashier had charged me for a $19.99 item that I had not purchased. I live 20 miles from that location and I was not about to drive all the way back to the store with the price of gas. I am very disappointed in all of the stores and the knowledge of their staff on hand. I will not shop there again. It is really sad becasue they have a good selection of plants. The bad thing is there is no coperate office you can contact to let them know how bad there service really is.

Unfortunately, I don’t have to option of placing NO STARS on this review. I wonder does corporate reads these emails, probably not because it’s all about business revenue and hiring cheap labor. Especially, since they don’t provide any contact numbers for any of their locations in their newspaper flyers. When you Google the number, all you get is a recording and not a live person. Well, the business and services speaks for itself, No wonder I was treated with such disrespect and unprofessionalism.
I had to compose myself of this review because I was so frustrated and humiliated by the Hispanic workers and a patron. My experience at the Bellaire/West Park was horrific and traumatic. I had purchased potting soil and grass sod and gave the employee my receipt. As he started loading up the cart he finished and asked me for a pen so he could mark off the bags. As we begin to walk to my vehicle, he was interrupted by another customer and proceeds to assist her. I didn’t have a pen and explained it to him but told him I need grass as well. He then refuses load my truck and then in an hostile tone speaks Spanish and brushes me off and leaves the soils in the cart and walks away. Luckily it was a Bilingual customer who was witnessing everything and proceeds to help me.
The Good Samaritan (GM) translated for me and explained to the employee that he needs to place the products in my truck. He refuses, and explains that I didn’t have a receipt and that I hadn’t paid. I verified both my receipts but to no avail, did this worker listen. He walked over to assist another customer. I then explained I can’t lift all these bags, why is he not placing it in my camper. He then curses me in Spanish and makes a scene as the GM is explaining to him that my receipt is in his hand; the employee refuses to look in his hands and then places my receipt with the other customers in his pocket. Of course, we were putting on a good show for the workers and patron and NO ONE FROM MANAGEMENT came to intervene. Finally, as the GS was assisting me, the employee proceeded to throw the bags all over my truck, while he calls me the N word and profanity. Suddenly, a bystander patron, who never witnesses the initial interaction confronts me about my behavior and claims I am taking advantage of the worker who is unable to speak English. I am appalled with his allegations and asked him to leave the area. He then curses me out in English and Spanish and tells me to go back to Africa. We exchanged words and I walked away to the grass area. The GS apologized to me for the incident. As I sat alone, while the other employee was loading the grass and re-arranging the bags that were thrown on my truck, the other workers are cursing me out in Spanish along with other Hispanic customers. I finally was comforted by two Caucasian males who witnessed and apologized for what happened. This happened because an FAILED to PAY ATTENTION and do his job.
I spoke with the Manager, Belinda (Brenda) whatever her name was about the incident. She showed no interest and ignored me. I attempted to provide her the information of the employee; she explained that it wasn’t needed. Well, what did I expect? Resolution or an apology, of course not, the employees only reflect what the company represents. It is sure not honesty and integrity. So for the customers, who witnessed this incident, don’t judge me because you don’t have the insight. Too the GS, and the two gentleman who assisted me I Thank you.
Basically, after reading all these reviews, nothing is going to happen. So just buy the cheaper products and suck up the PissPoor customer Service. For me, I have choices and will pay for a higher product for great customer service.
There is not one person there who can speak even the slightest bit of English. When I asked for the simplest things, I had to resort to charades every time. Then I was lead to something not even close! Can't they hire ONE person to help the English speaking customer.

Houston Garden Centers use deceitful sales practices. They misrepresent their ""Half Off"" prices so that when you get to the cashier, you just take the regular price. I have it all caught on camera. When confronted with it, they argue, insult their customers, and shrug. The store in Webster has an employee (Carlos) who is rude and belligerent (in a broken english way, to boot) and a ""Supervisor"" who had the audacity to ask me (Hispanic, professional, post graduate education) if I ""spoke English"" because I confronted him with their unethical practices and would not accept their lame reasoning. This from a ""supervisor"" who took orders from Carlos (I teach english for a living!!!) . This joke of a ""supervisor"" then backed off (when I told him I had an education and spoke several languages and he was being rude and downright demeaning to his customers) and called ""management"" on a cell phone but they were just as rude as the people at the store. We'll see how well I can speak english when they defend themselves in court. I' rather pay twice the price for good service than go back and give them a cent of my money.

I have been to a number of Houston Garden Centers and have vowed to never go back. Any time I go, there is never anybody available to help you find certain items or answer questions. I think that there is a lack of good information about what kind of environment will work best for a given plant. Any time I am able to actually find someone to ask a question, they don't speak any English or they are too busy to help and you have to wait 15 minutes or so for them to assist you. Most other Houston area nurseries that I know of have people available who are happy to help you find something and have knowledge about the plants that they sell.
