Service deserves NO STAR as well as the atmosphere. This restaurant may have Houston Chronicle reviews and decent food but that is not everything in the restaurant business - most people would like to go to a welcoming and enjoyable environment to have a good meal with wonderful, attentive customer service. If that's what you are looking for, DO NOT GO HERE!! It's a small place - with a very rude owner, who sits out front like a manic and rips you off with extra charges at the register or by upping the price of the dishes and throws your change at you with no word uttered no thank you nothing. When this restaurant was fairly new and he was trying to grow his business he was attentive and at times a bit too talkative and intruding - all gone to his head! He caters mostly to his Caucasian customers and is extremely rude to everyone else as if we are coming to get free food or something. The "slender waiter" as he is referred seems to be the head waiter and is absolutely horrible - throws down the menu and looks all over the restaurant while taking your order with very few words as well. No welcome either just says "bolo" = yes. I have to mention that the other mostly hispanic employees are wonderful and very nice, I often ask them for something if I need it and prefer to leave them the tip. If you eat here, check your bill as they feel they have the right to add an automatic 10% tip regardless of your party size and look out for other fees.
One of the best foods i have had in Houston. Love their chicken seekh kababs and paneer hara masala. Ambiance is okay but you have to go there if you are a foodie. Have been there several times and never had to wait for more than 10 mins after ordering. The owner is sweet and hospitable, although sometimes he seems overwhelmed. A MUST RESTAURANT TO DINE AT IF YOU LIKE INDIAN FOOD.

Staff and owner of this restaurant is very arrogant, bad mannered and rude. We ordered chicken biryani and the staff told us very arrogantly that ""its over.. order something else"" then we ordered Goat Biryani and Veg Biryani.. within 5 minutes people next to our table ordered chicken biryani and the same staff took their order.. I was really surprised.. Ignoring that and I was hoping the food will be good.. after 1 hour of waiting time food was on our table that too the taste of food was horrible filled with lots of spices, very very hot and spicy.
Over all this bad experience we had to 15% “tip” which is mandatory here.. Prices are very high here and the environment doesn’t look hygienic.
I would advice never go here.. Houston has far better restaurants than this..
Delicious? The samosas have a lot of crust, but the crust is so delicious that it could be all crust, and that would be okay. Meanwhile the filling, once you find it, has a delicate, unusual fennel flavor and the tamarind sauce is the perfect foil. My favorite at Himalaya Restaurant.
I took my date here for her birthday and we had a great time. We were greeted by a super friendly receptionist and the service was awesome. The meal was mouth watering all the way down to the last bite. The design and atmosphere of the restaurant was outstanding as well. I highly recommend Himalaya Restaurant for anyone seeking a great restaurant to sit down and dine at.
NOT AT ALL GOOD SERVICE...............THE MAN IN THE FRONT REGISTER IS SOO ARROGANT AND DOES'NT KNOW, HOW TO BEHAVE TO THE CUSTOMERS............FOOD IS HORRIBLE................LOT OF SPICES ONLY AND DOES'NT TASTE GOOD.....................BAD EXPERIENCE................I THINK ONLY GOOD TO THOSE REGULAR CUSTOMERS...........

Guys I am absolutely disgusted when my own brother who is doing his MS in clear lake told me what happens there. He worked there for 3 days and he was instructed to restore the Biryani and raitha customer leave without eating and serve to the next customer. He stopped working there after seeing that and none of our friends went there after knowing the fact. How can they use the food left over by someone and serve it to others. How many diseases are we subjected to with this restaurant.
The food and service here is superb! I'm still not accustomed to the entire Himalayan culture, but this restaurant definitely brings me closer to it. The atmosphere is very traditional and the music is cool that they play in there. Overall a great experience for me and I would recommend this spot to anyone.
I don't understand what everyone's complaint is. You get what you pay for: Great food, Great service, and a wonderful restaurant to enjoy your meal at. I think some people just don't know what good food and good service is. I surely do, and that's why I recommend Himalaya Restaurant to all!

The owner and the waiters are just rude and rude. I know nothing about Indian food, it tasted like a curry cook with lots of black pepper and chillies. Very strong and intense. You have to wash your mouth really good in order to speak again. However, the service is really not pleasant. You feel like the owner and the waiter are eyeing on you through out the meal with that cold stone on their faces. And it is just nasty dirty... from the cheap table cloth, and the very ugly decoration... everything looks just ..?? This is an restaurant or a flea market?? And when you pay for the bills, the owner directly ask tips for his poor mexican waiters. He should feel shame about himself!! Don't go!!

Owner up-sells on items and demands tip for a poor restaurant service experience. This place only has one rude waiter that never shows up on time and is rude. And the owner expects you to tip him??
I would truly look at this guys bachelor and masters records at the medical school to see if they are even real.
The owner always gets you to order other stuff no matter what you order. If you order chicken karahai then he will try to sell you chicken boti ETC.
Also the food is very mediocre. I honestly do not know why people dine at this establishment.

If I could give this restaurant 0 stars, I would. I will never be going to the restaurant again. The server was SO rude to the point where he walked off in the middle of my order without even excusing himself. Later the owner came to try to persuade my party to order more food. All the staff members are so rude, it's disgusting. I was so appalled at their behavior that I lost my appetite and left before the food even came, which is something I have never done before. This was definitely the WORST service I've experienced in my whole life.
