Overall
Didn't file permit but charged us for it,

I am pleased with the electrical work done by Dempsey. They installed a new 200amp service panel in our 1950s home. However, 8 months after the work was done, we found out they never filed the permits with the city for the work. A permit fee was part of our total bill and was roughly $200. After a permit is filed with the City of Houston, the city inspectors come to inspect the work to ensure it is within code. They also evaluate the feeder lines coming off of the telephone lines to determine if they are large enough to carry the power demanded by your service panel. This information is then provided to Centerpoint.

If at anytime Centerpoint had come to our neighborhood to do work and had found our new panel with no inspection on file, they reserve the right to disconnect power right then. You can imagine if this would happen in the middle of August.

Dempsey is an established company. With the current economic climate, it makes me wonder if they are simply pocketing the permit fees and waiting to get caught. Or maybe this was the exceptional case.

Dempsey did file the permit after I contacted them and I am awaiting my inspection.
