I just wanted to write to say thank you for the excellent service we received: They arrive on time and do everything in a very professional manner. They are very careful not to damage anything as well. Their service is very reasonably priced as well. they worked fast and without any problems. They stayed extra to help me arrange my furniture in my new place I have nothing but good things to say about American Knights. We moved from the Galleria area out to the burbs and hired this company to handle it because, well, it's hot in Houston and I really didn't feel like moving everything myself. They arrived at 9:30am and after a quick chat with me to determine everything that needed to be done, they got to work. There were three guys and a pretty big moving truck. The guys spoke pretty good English and were professional in how they cared for my stuff. They had to take a queen bed and a king bed downstairs. We have couches, a dining room, dressers, the whole package but they moved quickly and efficiently. I felt a little lazy watching them work so hard, but I definitely got what I paid for. They knocked out the whole move in around 3 hours... YES, 3 hours! It was great! This was the least stressful move I have ever done. I don't have a whole lot of experience using movers, but I feel like I got a great deal. I would recommend these guys to anyone. We picked a Saturday morning to move, and they gave us a two hour window for when they would be there (pretty standard I think). They arrived at 9:30am and after a quick chat with me to determine everything that needed to be done, they got to work. There were three guys and a pretty big moving truck. The guys spoke pretty good English and were professional in how they cared for my stuff. They had to take a queen bed and a king bed downstairs. I don't have a whole lot of experience using movers, but I feel like I got a great deal. the guys were really helpful and explain all of the information that I needed to know, and most important took care of all the stuff with care. I would recommend these guys to anyone. I was glad to find someone to get my new furniture for such a reasonable price. They moved my things carefully, swiftly, and intelligently. We could not have been happier with the service moving crew was courteous and their timing impeccable: the guys were working full steam ahead, quietly and did so for the rest of the day with no complaints. The crew was very nice and helpful,, and they really all know what they are doing. They wrapped everything, moved it all with no complaints and charged what I was quoted
At first discussion with Jean Smith she let me know there was an 8 hour minimum for services. I asked her what her going rate was, she said it was 110 an hour. I asked her if she had a military discount, she said I could pay her 95 an hour. Then she added the "materials/taxes" fees, and said it would be a flat $1000. Cash only accepted. When I questioned her about the amount of materials I would require, she simply stated that "her boss" wouldn't go less than $1000". I agreed to pay this amount only. I was expected to pay up-front as well, and obliged. The movers themselves did a WONDERFUL Job, However, they forgot 2 boxes, had to come back, then got stuck in traffic for an hour. Jean called and informed me that I would be charged an additional hour "$95" I disputed the cost due to the circumstance and she began to scream at me, then hung up on me. She called me back, I expected an apology, instead I got screamed at again, told to pay her driver, and that she would like to speak to her driver immediately. I informed her that I was at McDonalds getting them something to drink. She hung up on me again. I went back to speak with the movers at my storage unit, explained to them the situation, they agreed that it was of no fault of my own that they got stuck in traffic, came back to get the boxes they left, then got stuck in traffic again, making them an hour behind schedule. Then they informed me that they only get paid $8 an hour. They also informed me that she screams at them like that all of the time, and they want to go in to business for themselves. The movers told Jean that they did not agree with the charge and would not collect from me. Jean yelled at them, told them that she was docking them an hour of pay each. They also informed me that she is their employer and the owner of the business, meaning there was no "boss" to refer to, other than herself. Later, she blows up my cell phone with text messages. She tells me that she is going to fire the movers. "We will be billing you for additional hour or goes to collections guys are fired for not collecting they know better we did a top notch job for you what a shame that you should act this way" She also left 2 hateful voice messages. I would like to add that she accepted a $400 sleeper sofa from me (at no charge). Once I am informed of the business the Moving employees plan on opening for themselves, I will gladly post their information in addendum to this rating.
I had to move rather suddenly at the beginning of September, because my landlord suddenly sold the property I had lived in for six years. I have moved before and I was not looking forward to it. I made a list of about 13 moving companies and contacted them, checked their rates, their conditions and (in the Internet) their ratings. I had A-1 Professional Movers in my list, but they were not my first choice until I read the reviews at another site (Citysearch). I am glad I did not read the reviews in this site first. I called them, set up an appointment, was told they would be there between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m. They showed up at 8:45 a.m. The man who seemed to be in charge of the crew (three-men crew) spoke with me briefly and then they started moving fast and efficiently. They wrapped my furniture in plastic, so that unlocked drawers and doors would not come open and starting stacking all my belongings in the moving truck. I had over one hundred boxes, furniture and potted plants. I was checking everything closely and noticed they packed the truck with extreme efficiency. I paid by the hour so there was some concern on my part about the men slowing down or lagging to add up the minutes and pad the bill. Not so. They worked hard, efficiently and carefully under the direction of the man in charge, who, by the way, was not only supervising, but also working as hard as the other two men. They unloaded at the new address with equal efficiency. Not a single item was broken. I asked the men to place many of the boxes in the garage and was pleasantly surprised at the way they arranged them. They did not just pile them up, but left enough space for one person to walk between rows for easy access to the boxes. I am an older person and I really appreciated that. I am so glad and lucky I contracted their services. Anybody who has moved knows the stress this represents. This moving company greatly helped my move run smoothly. I highly recommend A-1 Professional Movers.
My move was troubled from the beginning as result of divorce. Yuck. I called Darlene and discussed at length my concerns regarding privacy of my new address and possible hostile situation. She consoled and reassured me that they would keep my new address in confidence and their staff would take care of anything that came up. The day of the move the tension was so thick you could cut it with a knife. My soon to be ex wouldn't allow anyone in the house, not even the movers. About 30 minutes into the move, my ex began throwing my packed belongings down the sidewalk and driveway. The movers went into action literally running from the porch to the truck getting things loaded as quickly as possible. Unfortunately there were a total of three physical altercations with my ex all in attempt to remove my items from the house. Both gentlemen were very respectful of the situation, passed no judgement and didn't get involved. They remained respectful, even to my screaming irate ex, while removing the last of my things from the house. Gregory went above and beyond the job requirements entrusted to him by his employer. I will be forever grateful for people like him and companies like All-Some Movers. The following day I called Darlene to let her know what happened. She was loving and kind expressing her concern and passing along the relayed concern from Greg after he briefed her on the previous days events. This company will take care of my moving needs for the rest of my life. I couldn't have made it through this move without them. Hands down, they are the best moving company I've ever employed.
thoroughly impressed with the service provided by American Knights Moving, used them for my recent move and will use them in the future! I recommend their services to ANYONE!!!!I personally thank Tanya for following up every single thing, assuring me, Kobi for his visual inspection and the movers Juan Flores,Jesus Arrieta and Roger were So very friendly! And Misti for regular updates about the dispatch And above all Jennifer, She did send me a restaurant card worth $ 50 ! Believe me they did buy me my dinner amidst my stressful move! On time with easy booking and smiley movers, they were extremely responsive and more than fair in working with usI had spoke with various movers to finalize the quote and had one company (TRANSIT MOVING SYSTEMS) which lied to me about the load I had and another(All Over the state Moving & Storage) who threatened that all the other company are worst and they will be never deliver on time , I'm glad that I didn't go with them!Thank you Tanya and Kobi!
I have read some reviews where people complained about moving companies using too much packing materials adding extra money to the final bill. Some people even said that although most movers are efficient, their packing skills are not up to the mark. So, when I was moving, I decided to take some matters into my own hands. I packed most of my stuffs and labeled them before the movers from Houston first movers arrived. They arrived right on time and some of my stuffs were still unpacked. They helped me pack those up and frankly, I didn’t think they were as bad as the reviews claim them to be. In fact, they were way faster than me and more creative too. There isn’t much to do after being done with the packing. So they finished loading in just 1.5 hours. I had to pay them for the two hours minimum, which made me regret my theory of “pack yourself” a little. Anyways, we have safely moved to my new Apt and all my belongings traveled safely too.
We are no newbies to relocation and our experiences with moving companies have always been less than great. They have always promised us easy and efficient moves but their men are never well prepared or skillful. For our last move we hired Houston first movers and frankly, we weren’t expecting them to be any different from the rest. Surprisingly, they were nothing like the others. Their quote was as expensive as others but they really excelled with the skills displayed by their movers. All 4 men were very experienced and organized. Usually, moving companies hire independent movers who have no coordination among them. But these guys were very team players. They worked tirelessly and efficiently around my house. All my things were packed and loaded with great precision. I was very impressed with these guys and will definitely hire them again.
I had a great moving experience! If I have to I will use R&L Moving Systems again. I have moved several times with this company and every tme was great. The movers are always fast, clean, friendly and work very hard. The guys Johnatan and Lizeth were very efficient in loading all my belongings. Thanks guys! They are professional in all areas of moving. The office staff is great and they have always been flexible with scheduling. The price was less then most companies and even if it had been more I would have still moved with them. If you are seeking a moving company that you can turn your back to and fully trust that your belongings will be properly handled then use R&L Moving Systems. My husband and I couldn't be more satisfied with our move. We refer them to all of our family, friends, co-workers, etc.
I used them this past weekend. They are flexible, dependable, professional, courteous, conscientious, careful and just overall great people to work with. I work for a company that needs to hire movers on a regular basis. These guys always show up on time, with a smile - and ready to go! One of the best moving experiences I have ever had. They were FAST and CAREFUL with every item, and every detail. All our items were handled with care. I would trust them to move anything - even super fragile treasures or complex equipment. They were really reasonable $$... Staff were friendly, professional, and worked non-stop (with just a quick lunch break). Made the move a smooth, pleasant experience. I recommend these guys without reservation to anyone and will *totally* use them again for any moves in the future. Thanks,
Very personable and professional from the owner to the crew. they wrapped all of furniture packed it safely, and delivered without incident. They also supplied all of the mattress covers for the mattresses, plastic covering for the couches, padded blankets to wrap all the furniture, and they dismantled all of the furniture too. movers were courteous, prompt and efficient. Price by the hour is reasonable. Everything went as planned. Considering the potential problems with moving, they strongly exceeded expectations. I don't plan to move again, but I'll gladly recommend these people to others. Not ONE thing was broken or out of place. How cool are these people? I'm inviting them to the housewarming party whenever I finally get everything settled in. I not only got cool movers, I've made new friends.
Every move is different, so it's vital to choose a moving company that's right for you. The first consideration you should make when hiring these professionals is how far you're moving.
Depending on the moving company, local moves are typically anywhere between one and 100 miles within the same state. Local moves are less complicated to plan, both for you and the movers you decide to hire. They're typically priced based on how much you need to move, how many movers the company plans to provide and how long the job is estimated to take.
Long-Distance and Interstate Moves
Even if you're staying in the same state, you may still technically be planning a long-distance move - though the exact mileage varies by moving company, these are typically moves that are more than 50 to 100 miles long or across state or country lines. In fact, even if you're moving within the same state but you have to go through another state or country first, it's likely considered an interstate move, rather than a local one. That's because the movers are technically transferring items between state lines, which means they'll be responsible for having the correct licensing and insurance in place.
Long-distance moves are much more complicated to plan, typically requiring you to pay numerous extra expenses for everything from shipping items to renting storage space.
Are you making a big move and trying to figure out exactly how much you should plan to spend? Or are you on a tight budget and looking to hire a mover who can keep costs low? Either way, it's important to understand how exactly moving companies charge their customers.
As mentioned above, for local moves, companies will charge based on the number of movers they provide and the amount of time they'll need to spend on the project. Generally, the more rooms in your apartment or house, the more movers and time you can expect to be charged for. The price of long-distance or interstate moves, on the other hand, will be based on the amount of belongings you have - and more specifically the weight of those belongings. The heavier the boxes or items you're shipping across state or country lines, the more expensive your move will be.
Moving costs will vary greatly, depending on where you are. Local moves in a small town in the Midwest will be much less expensive than comparable moves in New York City. For that reason, it's best to do some research about the going rates in your area.
No matter what type of move you're making, you can reach out to prospective moving companies for estimates - this is the best way to determine how expensive your move will be based on where you live and what services you're looking for. Typically, the moving company will send someone to your home who will do a walk through of each room, making note of the furniture, valuables and other belongings in each one. Then, he or she will provide an estimate. The exact amount you pay may, however, be different from the amount declared in the estimate. That's where the type of contract comes in.
Nonbinding vs. Binding Contracts
For any move, a company will ask you to sign a contract. It's crucial to know exactly what type of contract you're signing, though, to understand how much you can expect to pay. In basic terms, there are two types of moving contracts: binding and nonbinding. Binding, as well as binding not-to-exceed, contracts are the most preferable for people hiring movers. These list an estimated price the moving company cannot charge more than. So, even if your local move takes an hour longer or your belongings are heavier than expected for an interstate move, you're still only responsible for paying a fixed amount.
Nonbinding contracts, on the other hand, have no fixed final number. Instead, they list a rate - by the hour or by the pound/kilo - and you're responsible for paying exactly how much your move costs in those terms.
Keep in mind that movers provide a variety of services, many of which you may not require. These can affect how expensive your move will be. For example, a full-service move that includes packing and unpacking will be pricier than a local move that only includes loading the truck, driving it to the new home and unloading it.
For any move, there may be extra costs beyond the typical services offered. If you're asking your movers to transport large, hard-to-move items, like pianos, for instance, you'll likely pay an extra fee. Likewise, if your apartment building doesn't have an elevator or the truck has to be parked far from your home, you may be charged extra. Ask about these potential expenses when signing your contract.
Don't rush through the process of hiring a moving company. Make sure the movers you hire are dependable, reputable and the right fit for your needs.
Look for Reviews and Recommendations
When hiring movers, it's a good idea to both look at reviews online and ask your friends and family members for recommendations. Personal endorsements will go a long way toward helping you determine whether you can expect the company to do a quick and professional job.
Choose Top Candidates
As you're vetting candidates through reviews and recommendations, narrow your selection to three or four top options. Make sure the companies offer the type of move you're looking for, whether it's interstate or local. These three or four companies are who you'll contact for estimates.
Don't Be Afraid to Ask Questions
After receiving estimates, you'll have a better idea which companies are within your budget. However, this isn't the only factor you should use when choosing movers, especially for more complicated jobs. In fact, you may be willing to pay a little more to hire quality movers who can ensure the safety of your belongings. Don't be afraid to call these companies and ask questions.
During the hiring process, you want to make sure of three things: First, that the moving company is reputable and has the proper licensing and insurance. Second, that the movers are dependable, professional and committed to doing the job correctly. Finally, that the estimate provided is binding and that you're aware of any potential excess costs. With these factors in mind, here are some of the most important questions to ask a moving company:
As with any service profession, there are certain moving companies - though they are few and far between - that aren't reputable or that will try to take advantage of you. It's important to be able to recognize a scam if you come across one.
Call the FMCSA
For long-distance or interstate moves, you can easily check that companies have the proper licensing and insurance, which is a clear indication that they're legitimate. All interstate moving companies must be registered with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, so call 888-368-7238 to confirm the licenses, insurance and credentials of the movers you're considering. The FMCSA can also tell you if any complaints have been filed against a particular moving company.
Check with the American Moving and Storage Association
For both local and long-distance moving companies, AMSA is another good place to check out a company's legitimacy. Moving companies aren't required to be an AMSA member, but the ones that are have committed to the association's rules and regulations, which protect both the companies and the consumers hiring them. If a company isn't an AMSA member, that doesn't mean it isn't reputable, but an AMSA membership is a clear indication of legitimacy.
One of the most common fears people face when moving to a new home is that something they own will be lost or damaged in the process. While no company will be able to guarantee everything arrives safely, there are steps you can take to make damage less likely.
Pack and Transport Your Valuables
If you have items that are emotionally or financially valuable to you, do your best to pack and move them yourself. Keep jewelry, expensive artwork, inherited valuables and even costly electronics in your own car - that way you'll have complete control over their safety at all times.
Choose a Moving Company That Plans Ahead
Moving companies can better keep your belongings safe when the movers plan ahead. What does this mean? Many companies take extra time to measure doorways, halls and stairways to find the safest route in and out of your home. They should also provide furniture blankets, covers and moving pads to keep both your home and your belongings free of scratches or other damage.
Keep the Moving Area Safe
There are some things you can control on moving day and some things you simply can't, such as the weather. If you're moving on a snowy, icy or rainy day, keeping all of your paths, stairways and walkways clear and dry is crucial. This can help protect both the movers and the large items they're carrying to and from the truck.
The subject of tipping is relatively unclear when it comes to movers. However, there is a general rule of thumb that most people in the industry agree on: Tip your movers if they've done a good job and you think a tip is warranted.
Generally, a 5 percent tip is considered appropriate, though some people recommend paying $20 per day, per mover for basic, local moves. However, almost everyone agrees you should first do a quick walk-through of your home to check for any damage to your furniture or belongings and to make sure everything is where you'd like it to be.
If you do decide to give a tip, divide it evenly and give money to each individual, rather than giving the entire sum to the head mover and expecting it to be doled out equally. One type of tip to avoid: alcohol. It's usually illegal for movers to have bottles of alcohol in the truck or van, so tipping a bottle of wine or liquor could get them into trouble.
