I am their # fan...Years ago I was raised to buy my meat from there.Where it's located, there once was a Rice Grocery Store that was on the same street as Johnson's Funeral Home. We would walk and shop at Jim's. Well that was almost 20 years ago, now with a awesome husband and 3 hungry & gifted but still growing young men our income isn't getting any larger. The entire staff treats you with a smile and there's always plenty of laughter. They make you feel like part of the family. Once you drive up, there is always a friendly greeting from the most sweetest cashier's I've ever met especially Ms.Kim. Every single person in the meat department deserves bonus pay but the entire staff deserves raises.Their Homemade Boudain and Dirty Rice from Ms Annie or Mr Johnny is to die for. During the holidays I 've gotten my fried turkeys from here..order early so you won't miss out. The meat is always fresh and of great quality especially their steak.Buy the steak you won;t be disappointed. I never am.The prices aren't so bad compared to the only 2 grocery stores (Fiesta and HEB) when sometimes you can't get there. I love grocery store in walking distants and Jim's the place.I now reside in SW Houston Alief area but once a month I make it my business first to drag my sister along for her household. She purchases a #4 meat pack, she loves it but I purchase a #10 meat pack...that's a lot of meat. I need and must have meat (nearly 70lbs)like this for my growing family. I can't say enough about the place other than to say Thank You to every employee at Jim's.For the record, Personally I feel Mr Jim's (or the owner)really treat his staff with respect & fairness because it shows in their attitudes daily once you enter this store. It's always a pleasure shopping there and knowing these days there are still down-home neighborhood grocery store that still care about their own staff, customers and community. At Jim's...They really Care!!! (Hint:You should use this for your slogan). I AM ONE SATISFIED CUSTOMER...they deserve 5 STARS because that's what they are. Respectully; All Smiles; Kimberly Lott-CASTLEBERRYand family please be blessed.

I had a wonderful experience with Liberation Gluten Free- Bakery. Angela, the owner, not only bakes some delicious goods, she is as nice and accommodating as a business owner can be. Let me paint a picture. I'm fairly new to Houston and my fiance and I are both gluten free and dairy free. 2/14/14 was not only Valentine's day, but also my girls Birthday! So, a big day for celebration and I, at the last minute, realize I need a cake that's not easy to come by. Time and skills did not lend to baking my own, so I scowered the web looking for a G free bakery. I came across the usuals, Gluten Fee Nation and such, but none were able to whip me up anything last minute on V-Day... understandable. I got Angela on the phone at 8am in the morning, explained my situation. She did not have the bandwidth to create a cake, but she offered to provide a batch of cupcakes for our Birthday celebration. We settled on Vanilla Bean Cupcakes, and she frosted them in her favorite color, blue, with some festive colorful sprinkles on top. They were delicious and made my fiance very happy at dinner that night. In fact, I've heard her mention the cupcakes to friends/family numerous times since. Another really cool thing is Angela works out of her home, which I appreciate. It is accessible right off of a major road and home baking is definitely a cleaner atmosphere. She also had no problem with me picking them up at 7:30 pm that night from battling Houston traffic. So accommodating! When I went to pick them up I was greeted by her husband, invited in to see the family (children) and treated very well. I tried not to take up anymore of their Friday night, but they didn't seem to mind and saw me off with kind words. I've said it all, but based on this experience I highly recommend Liberation, and 100% support small businesses like this---for all these reasons! Thanks Angela!
I was referred to Ral by my wedding planner, Linda Stewart. I was very impressed of the different variety food Ral got to offer, not to mentioned the prices were right too. To be honest, I did speak to several other vendors before I decided to go with Ral. At first, my reason for chosing Ral was because his price was very reasonable compared to other vendors that I have talked to. However, I soon to find out that not only was the price was reasonable, but the food was very delicious as well when I went to the food tasting. Ral was very down to earth and was not pushy at all when we met. He was very detailed when explaining to me what was on the menu that I have selected and what will works best for my theme. Ral was very patience with us when it comes to scheduling the food tasting. At first, we had to reschedule the food tasting a couple of times because of my fiancé unexpected work schedules. Then, later we had to change the date on Ral again because we were dealing with a death in our family. Not to mentioned, we changed the menu on Ral at the last minute (to be exact, two weeks before our wedding date) due to our budget. Ral went way above and beyond for us and we really thank him for being so patience and work with us through all of these. Our wedding is 3/14/15 and I am so looking forward to eating the food again.
Another review mentioned Sugar Rush's lack of inventory that apparently that person was looking for on that particular day. It seems a little consumer education is needed here. Sugar Rush is a locally-owned, independently operated bakery. It is not a big box store or a national franchise. What that means is they bake on a much smaller scale. It's a first come first serve basis. There is a local deli in Chicago that only uses freshly baked bread for its sandwiches that they buy from another local bakery. When the bread is all gone or after a certain period of time has passed and they don't think the bread is fresh enough, they close the shop for the day. However, each sandwich has very high quality. People have to get out of this big box mentality. There are some smaller establishments that operate on a niche business model. The focus is quality NOT quantity. If you want quantity, shop at the big chain type stores. That said, Sugar Rush has absolutely delicious treats. If you get there and they're out of your favorite, try something different. They put a special touch on all their goodies.
If you've ever been to a convenience store or grocery store in Japan and enjoyed the experience, have I got a place for you. Nippon Daido literally translated means "Japanese Store" and for a Nippon-file it's like stepping into a Japanese convenience store without the 12 hour flight or packing a bag. They seem to have everything from staples in Japanese cooking like miso, panko, nori and high grades of soy sauce and rice to a selection of sakes and Japanese snack foods. There is a small but decent selection of videos for rent from feature films to animation. My favorite features have to be their selection of sashimi grade seafood and the kitchen which produces bentos daily. The menu varies from Tonkatsu pork & beefbowl to teriyaki eel over rice and Japanese style fried chicken and OF COURSE sushi all lovingly prepared by adorable Japanese grandmothers. The only thing I can honestly say I HATE about this place is that I live so FAR FROM IT! Whenever I'm near I HAVE to drop in. I LOVE this place!
My parents recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. We had a big gathering and we designed a wedding cheesecake from Bavarian Cakery. Multiple tiers, customized to our design, fabulous decorating and ample, knowledgeable guidance from the Cakery. Those who attended the party did not even wait for us to cut the cake and take it out to the reception area.. they flocked to the kitchen of the party location (approx 85 in attendance) and took it, piece by piece as it was being cut. That cake was inhaled!! =) Many of the guests at the party were well up in years and you've never seen so many people who were so excited about a piece of cake! The "cheesecake" has an upper and lower thin, cake-like layer and is then filled with this extraordinary cheesecake/mousse filling. It is moist, delicate and delicious. Everyone RAVED about the cake and it will long be a topic of conversation by those who attended the party.. it was THAT good!
I read about the Loaded Fries at House of Fries in positive review from the Houston Chronicle. So, we headed over for dinner last night. The fries are the best and the place is named appropriately, because they make you feel as if you are at home Every one is friendly including the customers who did not waste time expressing how often they eat at this place. It was a good experience all around and I will most definitely suggest this place to all of my friends. The wife loved the fresh meat burger, the kids had the chili cheese fries and I could not resist the loaded nacho fries with all the extra stuff on top. They even told us about the weekend special, which is 1/2lb burger, hand made with mushrooms and Swiss cheese on top. These guys are doing all the right things to make it happen and I wish them the best.
The Food Town on 2770 Sam Houston Parkway has always been my number one place to get groceries. It will be even more so now. A day after Hurricane Ike rolled through Houston Food Town was open to the public for much needed supplies. Although the lines were long to get into the store it was done for a good reason. The managers and staff were in total control and everything went smooth. as soon as something went low the shelves were being restocked.I was able to find what I needed and get out with no problem. I even shopped for my sisters, brother and parents because there was nothing open in their areas. They later came to my house to get their supplies. Now my sister is able to come from her home all the way here to shop at Food Town. Thanks for being there when we truly needed you Food Town.
I enjoyed my lunch and revisited next day. I had the chicken thinders, served with the hand cut fries, home made gravy and tx toast. The flavor the chicken tenders was great and I got lots of everything. I even enjoyed the peach tea. Hey you got to give this place a try, the burgers are excellent and the fries is to die for. I will be back and will bring friends. This location had been different restaurants in the past, but I think this one will stay and I would be happy to pay and extra dollar for any meal they have to make sure that they will make a profit and never go any away. I enjoed each meal and so did those that came with me. This is my first review of any place, but I read reviews all the time, thanks for that house of fries and see you soon! John
I hate writing reviews because when I do,the place becomes too popular, big lines start forming and I have to start making reservations, wait in line, etc. I like Tradicao as a neighborhood Gem that no one knows about it yet. To me Tradicao is more laid back than other Brazilian Steakhouses that I have been to.I can enjoy the meal with my hubby, sip on some wine, relax and talk. I love the Baby Beef"Top sirloin" it's tender, juicy and if they are not very busy they will cook it the way I like it. Their wine list is pretty impressive, their desserts are delicious. I usually ask for the real Brazilian items like wine, beer(Xingu),lemonade( a little sweet but my grandkids love it),desserts ( Papaya cream, flan...),mixed drink ( caipirinha), etc.
