I had a wonderful experience with Liberation Gluten Free- Bakery. Angela, the owner, not only bakes some delicious goods, she is as nice and accommodating as a business owner can be. Let me paint a picture. I'm fairly new to Houston and my fiance and I are both gluten free and dairy free. 2/14/14 was not only Valentine's day, but also my girls Birthday! So, a big day for celebration and I, at the last minute, realize I need a cake that's not easy to come by. Time and skills did not lend to baking my own, so I scowered the web looking for a G free bakery. I came across the usuals, Gluten Fee Nation and such, but none were able to whip me up anything last minute on V-Day... understandable. I got Angela on the phone at 8am in the morning, explained my situation. She did not have the bandwidth to create a cake, but she offered to provide a batch of cupcakes for our Birthday celebration. We settled on Vanilla Bean Cupcakes, and she frosted them in her favorite color, blue, with some festive colorful sprinkles on top. They were delicious and made my fiance very happy at dinner that night. In fact, I've heard her mention the cupcakes to friends/family numerous times since. Another really cool thing is Angela works out of her home, which I appreciate. It is accessible right off of a major road and home baking is definitely a cleaner atmosphere. She also had no problem with me picking them up at 7:30 pm that night from battling Houston traffic. So accommodating! When I went to pick them up I was greeted by her husband, invited in to see the family (children) and treated very well. I tried not to take up anymore of their Friday night, but they didn't seem to mind and saw me off with kind words. I've said it all, but based on this experience I highly recommend Liberation, and 100% support small businesses like this---for all these reasons! Thanks Angela!
Another review mentioned Sugar Rush's lack of inventory that apparently that person was looking for on that particular day. It seems a little consumer education is needed here. Sugar Rush is a locally-owned, independently operated bakery. It is not a big box store or a national franchise. What that means is they bake on a much smaller scale. It's a first come first serve basis. There is a local deli in Chicago that only uses freshly baked bread for its sandwiches that they buy from another local bakery. When the bread is all gone or after a certain period of time has passed and they don't think the bread is fresh enough, they close the shop for the day. However, each sandwich has very high quality. People have to get out of this big box mentality. There are some smaller establishments that operate on a niche business model. The focus is quality NOT quantity. If you want quantity, shop at the big chain type stores. That said, Sugar Rush has absolutely delicious treats. If you get there and they're out of your favorite, try something different. They put a special touch on all their goodies.
My parents recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. We had a big gathering and we designed a wedding cheesecake from Bavarian Cakery. Multiple tiers, customized to our design, fabulous decorating and ample, knowledgeable guidance from the Cakery. Those who attended the party did not even wait for us to cut the cake and take it out to the reception area.. they flocked to the kitchen of the party location (approx 85 in attendance) and took it, piece by piece as it was being cut. That cake was inhaled!! =) Many of the guests at the party were well up in years and you've never seen so many people who were so excited about a piece of cake! The "cheesecake" has an upper and lower thin, cake-like layer and is then filled with this extraordinary cheesecake/mousse filling. It is moist, delicate and delicious. Everyone RAVED about the cake and it will long be a topic of conversation by those who attended the party.. it was THAT good!
Picked up a box of 6 cupcakes today.....all different flavors and all were HUGE and delicious! My favorite today was the cherry limeade cupcake.....very moist and flavorful cake.....and a good buttercream that wasn't too sweet and not piled on too high....perfect for me! The price was not cheap (about $20 for 6 jumbo cupcakes), but the quality and variety (we got the wedding cake cupcake, the cherry limeade, a chocolate/chocolate, chocolate w/m&m sprinkles, strawberry cream, and apple pie/cobbler cupcakes) is good, so I am willing to pay the price for good, moist, flavorful cupcakes. Inside location is very basic, but I am not there for the scenery......the delish cupcakes are worth it! We will be returning soon!
I absolutely love this place! Living just a mile away, I used to eat there several times per week. Now I live over 35 miles away, but still have been trying to stop by at least once a week to enjoy the great food. Their Vietnamese sandwhiches are incredible - the fresh ingredients and that baguette....that yummy piece of heaven is what brings everything together! It's baked fresh everyday and it's one of the very best breads you could possibly get outside of Paris! I also love the tons of other goods available; such as the custom cakes, traditional Asian desserts and all sorts of baked goodies from croissants to cream puffs. You have to stop by and give it a try - you'll love the food and the low prices!
Everytime we go to Houston, we never forget to stop by and eat at Gold Ribbon and buy ensaymada, mamon, siopao, and pandesal to take back home. We also love their espasol and buko pandan. We have tried the other Filipino restaurants but we prefer to go to Gold Ribbon. This place is the nicest and biggest Filipino restaurant. They have more delicious food to offer. They offer authentic Filipino food. It's also nice to see that they try to improve /update their place every now and then because everytime we go there, we see changes inside which makes the place better.
Susie's Cakes not only gave us exceptional personalized service with excellent and honest professional advice, but my guests are still raving about the cake! It was so elegant in appearance, fabulous in the pictures as well. The most important thing, often overlooked, the cake was a little slice of heaven for each of my guests!!!! People were asking the waitstaff for to go boxes just for the cake. My husband and I are looking forward to our anniversary when we can once again experience the edible perfection that is SUSIES CAKES! ~Mr. and Mrs. Tuttle
Friday evening after dining at Tia Mara's restaurant we noticed the bakery open. We proceeded with our dinner and stopped by afterwards, but they were closed. The next morning after running errands turned into the after noon and we finally made a stop. GREATEST PAN DULCE I WE HAVE HAD IN A LONG TIME. After months of waiting for them to open, it was definitely worth the wait, Celaya IS MY NEW BAKERY :) DEFINATELY WILL BE PURCHASING MY DAAUGHTERS BIRTHDAY CAKE FROM HERE!!!!
OMG!! when it comes to helping you pick out a cake is great they have so many to choose from! The baker will even give you the best suggestion on the colors for it! He will also work with you if you place the order a month in advance. They do deliver if the cake is big enough that it has to be build and depending on the location the delivery won't cost a thing! Anyways all i have to wait for is the end results and i will let you know how that goes!
You hope to get married once....Zhna, the owner of this cake company is such an expert. She was able to create a one of kind design for me. She listens, pays attention to detail and the cakes, especially the white cake with the butter cream icing!! OMG...tasted so good that on the wedding night we didn't even get a single piece. Be sure to save a slice for yourself when you order from here! Wedding cake that tastes like wedding cake!!!!
