I work for the SPCA in the barn area, I had gotten hurt on the job and had to be in the call center for a week. On some slow time I wanted to see the reviews. I just wanted to let you all know that we do the best we possibly can. We are so booked with dogs, cats, horses and many other animals coming in every day. Im personaly sorry if you have a bad taste in your mouth about us but first off, the pit bull thing...... its liability..... we do try to give you other options and refer you to places that do take them. Secondly, I hope you understand that with so many animals coming in every day, we are doing our best to put these animals on the adoption list. If they have medical or behavioral problems we feel it our responsibility to do what is necessary. We think of the people that are to adopt these animals and we want those people to be happy with what they get. While most pit bulls are aggressive dogs, they make a bad rep for those that arent. I do have to say that any dog that is aggressive in any manor is HUMAINLY Euthanized. We do not want the new adoptors to have any problems what so ever medicaly or behavioraly. I hope this helps to clear up confussions about us. One other thing..... we do not pick up any animals unless they are hurt or tremendously destressed. The only ones that do pick up just any animal is animal control. Please find out your facts before reporting what we cant do because I take this job seriously in helping animals of all sort and I take it very personal to read some of these comments. If you have more questions.... call us and find out more. We are more than happy to help clear up any confussion. Thanks

Avon F., We are very sorry that you had a bad experience filling out an application. It is a simple 3 page form that is required of anyone who wishes to adopt. We use this application to insure that our rescued dogs are going to the most appropriate and secure homes and that the people who ar…
BARC trespassed onto my property when the gate and fence were closed, stole my puppy from the front yard and left a note reading that if I wanted my puppy back then I would have to call BARC. I called and not one clerk answered the many calls. I left numerous messages with my name and phone nu…
Love this place!! Got my Lucy baby there and I can't imagine life without her! The staff was so freindly and obviously loved the animals so much, the facility was surprisingly clean, and the animals seem fat and happy lol. I would recommend them to anyone
I'm really bad about reviewing companies / products, but after I saw the two one stars I felt I should step in and describe my own experience. It's been about seven months now since I picked my little guy up, but I remember it being nothing but a smooth process. It wasn't instantaneous - you have…
The staff really cares about the health and comfort of the animals for adoption. They are a very small facility servicing a large amount of stray and owner turned in pets. Dogs, cats, horses, rabbits, etc, can be adopted here, so take a look in person or online.

I love this operation. I rescued my dog Sasha 3 yrs ago and I returned to volunteer. These ppl really care about these animals and try to have most of the animals without putting any down unless they are sick.
We went to buy a teacup yorkie. I asked how big the dog was going to get since I knew that I only wanted a teacup 4lb dog. She said it would be 4lbs maybe 5lb but that she felt he was going to be 4lbs. Then she kept saying how he was the only one in the litter. Making me feel like she was sett…
Avon F., We are very sorry that you had a bad experience filling out an application. It is a simple 3 page form that is required of anyone who wishes to adopt. We use this application to insure that our rescued dogs are going to the most appropriate and secure homes and that the people who are wanting to adopt are responsible pet owners. Some of our dogs receive 15 or 20 applications. They are not marked as adopted until a contract is signed. Also, once your application is approved, it is approved for any dog in our program. We have a very good success rate for adoptions - averaging 10 a week. If the dog you were wanting to adopt was not available, rest assured that it was adopted to the best family possible.Keep looking at our database because the perfect dog will be there for you too!

I would adopt from here again. to people who want a dog, this is a really good place to go. they put the dog's health info on the kennel. just make sure you verify this w the receptionist as they can make mistakes from time to time. over all I had a very good experience. please adopt. cinch is so much more special to me because I chose him and I know I gave him a better life and saved him.
While I was happy to know that the Houston SPCA would accept 9 pups that someone dumped on us, I was disappointed to find out that if they determined there was any pitt bull at all in them they would be humanely euthanized. Since I didn't have any idea what kind they were, I was relunctant to bring them. They also said any pup under 5 lbs would be euthanized also. It seemed like the more questions I asked, the more negatively I thought of them. Ultimately, I found homes for the puppies myself.
I've fostered through 4 different Houston organizations over the past 2 years, and while none of them are perfect, my experience with AARF has been excellent. Especially considering the staff to foster ratio! Cindy Fitz, Micki D., Cindy H., and Steph Mashburn have all been easy to work with. AND my two fosters with AARF were adopted into great homes! I was glad that as the foster I got the final say on the adopter.
I want a teacup Chihuahua cause i have a friend who has one and i thin they are so cute to have for a pet
