When the waiter pulled out the table, yes the whole entire table, so that I, in my little black dress, didn't have to do the whole unlady like" scooch bounce, scooch bounce" thing to get to the center of the half circle booth that we were seated at, well, let's just say I fell madly and deeply in love with Morton's. (Just as an aside... when it became clear that I had to use the little ladies room they came back, those wonderful waiters... sigh, and offered to move the table again-- I declined but giggled at the sweetness). The meats here are amazing. As are the desserts. And the drinks. And I know we had salads as good fine dining patrons should but I really couldn't tell ya much about them as I really don't recall a single detail. The ambiance is okay, although I couldn't help but feel that for the price I expected a bit more sparkle in the decor, but it is a steakhouse so maybe I just needed to see it from that angle. Parking is free and easy as Morton's is a located in the uber upscale section of the Alamoana Shopping Mall INSIDER Tip: There is a private elevator up to Morton's-- it's just that it's a little tricky to find and I believe it comes out facing the parking garage so even more so you kind of have to know where to look for it so perhaps ask when you call for reservations. This is sort of a dining "experience" and with a dinner for two bill that was over $300 dollars, well you really don't wanna rush things, so don't go hungry, or with company you aren't happy to have a long sit with but, do prepare yourself for a good slow meal and enjoy.

Here's the thing... If you're already in downtown Honolulu you probably have access to ALL of Chinatown and lucky, lucky you. You will find carts of fresh fruits and veggies as well as some of the most exotic spices and ingredients and prepared foods as well. But should you not feel like wandering through the crowded stalls and dusty shops and should you want to sit down in comfort and enjoy a more refined Chinese meal... you must go to Little Village Noodle House-- "Little Village" as the regulars call it. Our family of four popped in on a VERY quiet Saturday afternoon, really it was so quiet we were one of two groups in the place which I hear is unusual. The service was just kind of "eh";-- but dare I say added to the authenticity of a good Chinese dining experience. The prices were a bit on the high side, especially if you are coming off of the streets of Chinatown where deals abound. The ambiance is sweet, as you feel you've escaped the hustle and bustle of the downtown streets and have found yourself tucked into the most serene Chinese garden-- think true zen. But the food, ahhh the food was amazing. Layers of flavor and oh so much yumminess. We enjoyed the salt and pepper porkchops, fried noodles with vegetables, orange chicken and on another occasion the Peking Duck, (which was pretty darn pricey but oh yum). This is our go to place for Chinese cuisine when in Downtown Honolulu.
... Concentrate on the food, cuz it's way better than the 'ambiance'. These nice, well-meaning floks are just about completely, totally clueless when it comes to 'ambiance', committing virtually every possible 'faux pas' re: what even not terribly discriminating people need to experience when dining out. The lights are too bright, the floors are dirty, the TABLES are dirty, the CHAIRS are dirty (and uncomfortable) the two folks (I'm guessing they are married, cuz she kept giving him dirty looks whenever he said anything) were just about the most miserable looking sad-sacks I've ever seen. I wanted to ask them if there had just recently been a horrible death in the family. ... Having said that, the food was actually very good !!! So here we go again --- a buffet where the food is not bad ( ...or even good !!) and yet the proprietors are sabotaging their own (slim) chance of long-term success by insisting on remaining stupid when it comes to the most basic kind of cleanliness, lights, the importance of mood, etc. Summary: Go for the food but be forewarned, as of this writing, these guys are TOTALLY CLUELESS about everything else.
Well I was pleased with the food but after watching the whole staff stop helping their customers and gathered for a taste test for about 15 minutes without servicing their customers . I was shocked that they just ignored everyone . This should have been done behind in private. Our server Peter was still on the job working hard ( Thank God ). I felt bad for the rest of the customers. Oh and everyone was rude and unhelpful. What a waste for such a nice place. I hope the owner is rich and does not care. I don't think I will be returning to the restaurant ever again. I read go reviews so I went but I was disappointed. I hope this helps anyone wanting to go here.. Aloha
Have been to five different Bubba Gump restaurants each has their own ups and downs. As a critic I cannot give a down on service for the entire crew and I will not. In fact I will give kudos to my waitress Clarisa on a great job, very prompt and very mindful. They did a good attempt at making ceviche at my table, did not other type of hot sauce but it is ok. Now for the bad, you cannot have a Forest Gump theme without Forest Gump trivia, Gumpisms, and the most important thing DR. Pepper.....
OMG!!! This place is Awesome!!! This local style Chinese restaurant that really knows how to make your money stretch! The food tastes INCREDIBLE and you get HUGE portions (Family-size). Its kinda hidden away near the Miramar Hotel on Kuhio Avenue. Back in the day while working at Pacific Harley-Davidson, we'd all chip in a few bucks, send someone to pick-up our call-in ahead order and PIG-OUT like a Maniac!! Wow!!! What a memory! LOL!!!
Saw the reviews on Yelp, so we had to try it out. Other than the excellent marbleized TORO, the rest was so-so for the amount of money they charged us. It could have, or should have been better for the price that they charge. Maybe we caught them on an off night...My wife and I love UNI, so we were expecting something great...well, we have had better back here in Southern California.
Better than Panda! Less greasy. Huge portions. Lots, lots of vegetables. Very friendly. It's near my home; it took me quite a while to finally go in, but now I go several times a week. Place has not taken off yet, but I am rooting for them big time.
Granted, the service is occasionally a bit sketchy when the place is crowded, but the food is invariably excellent and the prices are moderate. Also, there is free parking in their lot behind the building -- a rarity in Chinatown.
