The director's questions to me centered around, "I just don't understand why you think you need another cat?!!??" In response to my volunteered information about our 16-year-old cat, who has been with us since kittenhood, I was told: "You are lucky to have had her that long." Sixteen years is NOT luck. Sixteen years is good care from a loving home. I was also informed by the director that she "has been doing this for 17 years." Director, I have been doing this all my life, and that is a far sight more than your 17 years experience.

We lost our 3-year-old cat one month ago due to brain cancer. Losing her was extremely emotional and very sad. We did everything possible to save her. She was a Christmas surprise kitty less than 1 year ago. We waited until we felt we were ready to adopt again. I also explained this to the director.

After a 15-minute "conversation" with the director, I finally wore her down to telling me that she, "would think about it. But don't get your hopes up. I probably won't change my mind. I will call you in a day or two." Since the Tenny Shelter was holding its special Pictures with Santa event the following day, that was obviously her priority. As of this writing, NINE days later, there has been no return call.

I have written this review after careful consideration. I am not in the habit of posting negative reviews. As a shelter/rescue mom for all my life, such treatment is totally inappropriate and demands publication. However, I have not included my personal opinion of how we we treated; I will leave that conclusion to the reader. My review is only factual, difficult as that is, given the treatment we received. We were put through: 1) home visit required; 2) call back tomorrow [3 phone calls for that]; 4) outright denial; 5) will think about it; 6) will call back; 7) no call back. All this from a person who demonstrates very unprofessional, unkind behavior. Last I knew, there are not enough homes to provide for all the many kits that need them. Evidently, the director of the Tenny Shelter has different information. Thank you for reading my post.

We adopted our cat here wanting to support our local shelter. The woman who managed it was extremely rude. She treated my children who are wonderful with animals terrible. My daughter fell in love with an older kitten while we were there or I would not have pursued the adoption. It was very strange, it was as if they really didn't want to let any of the cats go. Anyways, after enduring a really uncomfortable process, we bring our cat home. First, the cat they told us is a male, is a girl. Second, that night she is burning up with a fever, we rush her to the vet, 150.00 later she is on antibiotics and thankfullyrecovers. We still have her she is a sweetheart, but I would NEVER put our family through that again. It is sad because we live in Hiltonand just wanted to support a local "rescue" group.

I was a regular visitor at this shelter, visiting once a week on average and gave the cats lots of attention and am very knowledgeable when it comes to cats. I am 21 and have been looking to adopt from there for a while. I adore cats and know a lot about caring for them and am really passionate about them. It has been a really unnecessarily long process trying to adopt from there and not a pleasant one, it has grown tiring since I am ready to give a cat a loving forever home now and have been for a long time. The director there, when she actually answers her phone, doesn't take me seriously and doesn't listen to me and what I have to say and insists on speaking to my mother every time, who won't even be a part of caring for the cat and knows nothing about cats, unlike me. She needs to have my mom adopt the cat, it can't be me and she even called me "challenged" (I have never met this woman) while speaking to my mother. I will be the one caring for the cat, feeding the cat, playing with the cat, I bought everything the cat needs (food, window perch, activity tower, toys, beds, litter box, litter etc.) and will for its entire life and study cats daily and know everything about them and how to care for them and hope to work with them my whole life and open up my own cat shelter in the far future yet my extremely busy mother who never has time and basically works 24/7 and doesn't even have a car at the moment is the only person they can talk to and the only person who can adopt her just so the cat can be brought home and spend all its time with me.

Absolutely ridiculous and unnecessarily strict and I was treated with 0 respect. I'll be adopting elsewhere, where I, the person who will be taking care of the cat, can adopt and be taken seriously.

They hardly answer their phone. I tried calling several times over several days to make arrangements to bring my cat there. They never picked up. I decided to go down during their business hours and they were sitting outside on a porch. They turned me away before I even had a chance to ask them about taking my cat. Meanwhile I could swear I heard the phone ringing and no one got up to answer it. This old woman was very rude. I'm not sure if she is the owner or just an employee but she should not be working with people or animals. She was unsympathetic that I had to give up my cat due to my husband's allergies. She suggested I take the cat elsewhere without even giving me a reason. I understand no-kill animal shelters probably fill up fast, but there was no need for her to be so rude. And they need to answer their phones. It would have saved me a drive all the way out there.

Not a positive experience. Staff was indifferent to my feelings about having to give up my cat. I moved to South Carolina and needed to leave my cat behind. They suggested I either take the cat to the vet or to the humane society. Either way my cat would be put down. I took her there due to their no kill policy. But they were rude and uncaring.

Unprofessional. They say they take pets but they have never taken any of mine or any of my friends. They tell you to take your animal to the vet to put it to sleep. Not ok.

Worst animal shelter ever. I have tried to take my pets there a few times and they have always refused. They were not nice and one older lady even suggested I put my cat down. I took my cat there because I didn't want to run the risk of taking her to Lollipop Farm and having her put to sleep. But they wouldn't not take her. This was the second time I had tried to take a pet there and no luck. Not nice people either.

Lerome T.

Terrible. They are cruel and refused to take my cat when I moved. They suggested I put my cat to sleep. So much for them believing in a no-kill policy. Hypocrites. And they never answer their phone so I took my cat on my way to work and they refused to let me keep the cat there for a few hours. They suggested I leave the cat in my car in the heat for 8 hours. They are sick. I do not recommend.

I wouldn't even give them one star. They are horrible. They advertise that they are a no kill animal shelter and they refused to take my cat. They told me to take the cat and have her put down because they wouldn't take her. 4 of my friends have tried to take cats and kittens there and they have refused every single one of them. Worst shelter ever!!! Hypocrites.

Good Experience, Sweet Kitty

We got our cat here in Sept. of 2013. The workers were doing a great job of taking care of the cats. My son picked a 3-year-old cat. She was in great shape. We looked at ALL the cats and we didn't see any that were unhealthy. I am so glad we went there. She is an awesome cat and we would definitely recommend the shelter to someone looking for a new cat or kitten.
