Dongs Karate School

The first post I saw on this forem was rather negative. I don't know what has happened to that person but my experience was quite different. I studied at grand master Dongs twenty years ago and what I learned has litteraly saved my life on several occasions.

Horrible experience when dealing with this school. I participated for six months out a year attending three classes a week. The instructors at the school greatly offended me, and then made jokes about it later. When confronting the man in charge of the instructors who offended me, I was met with even more rude behavior. On top of that, he would not allow me to confront Grandmaster Dong about this atrocious experience. I would highly recommend somewhere else, this place is over priced. They care more about themselves then they do about the students they teach.

It's the greatest at teaching around because it gives very freely. For example, each year there is a big tournament that raises up to $25,000 towards the Children's Hospital of Richmond. The instructors are always nice and they push you just enough to improve but not to hurt you. I started when I was 6 years old and know I am about to get my black belt. If you asked me where to go for a martial arts place, Grand Master Dong's would be the first recommendation.

Impressively, Grandmaster Dong still teaches most of the advanced classes. I was shocked to hear that any school in the area had a grandmaster, let alone one who is so actively involved in teaching and genuinely cares about the quality of his classes. Grandmaster Dong's classes are exceptional and I would recommend them to any martial arts enthusiast in the Richmond area.



Dong's Tae Kwon Do school has exceeded my expectations in my first year of training here. I trained in a Tang Soo Do for several years in the past, and the instructors at Dong's were great in getting me up to speed with Tae Kwon Do requirements so that they could recognize my rank at their school.

As parents, we always want to get our kids involved with activities that are fun, but also that will teach them valuable life skills. With that in mind, I can not think of an activity more worthwhile than to enroll your son or daughter into martial arts training, specifically at Dong's Karate. There is a reason Dong's karate has been in business for 40 years, because they are the best at what they do. In addition to physical training in self-defense, Dong's stresses mental and emotional training as well. My son has gained so many skills in his 4 years of martial arts training that will serve him a life time. I strongly reccommend Dong's Karate if you are looking for an individual activity that will help your child grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Well worth the investment.

I've been going to Grandmaster Dong's school for a few years now and it has been a great experience for me. It is one of the very few martial arts schools that you get the honor and privilege of being taught by a Grandmaster. The instructors are very friendly and get to know you! Dong's school is a great place to learn not only self defense but also to learn "Honesty, Humility, Patience, Diligence, and Respect." I love Grandmaster Dongs!!!!

You will not find a better school. I can't give it up even after moving to Texas. I take classes by video and go back to the school every time I visit Richmond. Grandmaster Dong has been teaching for 40 years in the US. His schools all have excellent instructors who all continue to train with him personally. Grandmaster Dong is still actively teaching at the headquarters school on Broad Street. The school is great for children, it promotes wonderful core values, has a family atmosphere and builds confidence and goal setting. It does this for adults too. You know I can't say enough good things about this school. I love it!

I have been training with Grandmaster Dong for over 15 years and it has been a life changing experience. Classmates are like one big family and the caring atmosphere creates a great learning environment for children and adults.

Grandmaster Dong's Martial Arts is the real thing. It is the place to go for traditional martial arts with a true family atmosphere. The instructors are encouraging, supportive, and knowledgable. You will also be hard-pressed to find another school with a 9th degree Korean Grandmaster so involved with his school and student's as Grandmaster Dong in the Richmond area! Grandmaster Dong and his instructors made me feel like part of the family and I'm sure if you try out their program, you will feel the same way.

I've been studying martial arts and Don's Karate for over 5 years and it has truly been one of the best experiences I have ever had. The atmosphere is very family oriented, friendly, and helpful. The instructors are not only some of the best martial artist in the world but also some of the best people in the world too. I recommend this school to anyone, children or adult!

I have been with Grandmaster Dong for fourteen years now and everyday with him is a new experience. I started when I was four years old and now am a fourth degree black belt. All of the instructors are great and there is a real family atmosphere. Everyone is really nice and helps each other out. Great place for families, children, and adults!

I cannot recommend this school enough. My children love it and they have gained so much from their time at Grand Master Dong's School of Martial Arts. We initially went there for my daughter based on recommendation from her assistant principal so that she could increase her self-confidence, self-respect and respect for others. Today, three years later, she has her first degree black belt and her long term goal is to reach her Master's degree. Her brother and I (mother) have also joined ranks at the school. The instruction under Grand Master Dong and Mike Grossman are the best you will ever encounter. They truly care about the their students no matter the age or ability. They give their all and provide such a broad amount of knowledge of the martial arts. You will learn SO much more than kicking and punching. You do not have to be an athlete to enjoy and reach goals you never imagined. The school completely feels like a family...folks really look out for each other. I have met some wonderful friends through my Tae Kwon Do classes. I truly cannot recommend this school highly enough. You will not reget coming by and checking it out.
