I've known and done business with Whitey Worsham since 1995. Whitey is the owner/operator of German Automotive in Fletcher North Carolina. In all my years of dealing with Whitey he has been: Honest to the core, Very Knowledgeable about automotive machining, Extremely knowledgeable about the Volkswagen Air Cooled engine line in all variations and dependable/trustworthy to a fault. He is a person who prides himself in giving great service to and taking care of his customers. If someone has a problem with Whitey, in my opinion/experience, they went Way Out of Their Way to cause it, because Whitey will bend over backwards trying to help and or satisfy a customer. However, as you may know from your own experience, you simply can not satisfy some people no matter what you do. I believe Whitey opened his business in the late 1970's. Anyone who has been in business that long must be doing things right. You can't stay open for 37 + years in the same location, in a small community if you haven't taken care of your customers and provided good service. This recommendation of Whitey as a person and German Automotive as a business shouldn't be taken lightly. I drove my first VW beetle in 1957. I have been in a Volkswagen based business since 1975. I have owned 497 Volkswagens all at the same time and currently own 93. If anyone had or has a problem with Whitey, I can only say that if you want to be treated like a gentleman, then you must act like one. Lynn Ernst/ Illinois

Mac Easler Ford Service Department is wonderful! We were traveling from Virginia to South Carolina, towing a 36 fifth wheel and overnighted at a local campground. Our truck was having acceleration problems and we showed up here first thing on a Friday morning. The service department worked us in, fixed our truck and we were back on our way, later that day (5pm) our truck began having trouble again , we were on the interstate and unfortunately not close to a town & barely enough room to get off the interstate. Not knowing what else to do, I called Mac Easler Ford and spoke with the mechanic who had worked on our truck that morning, he asked several questions and was able to tell my husband exactly what was wrong with our truck and how to temporarily fix it, to get us off the interstate & slowly to our destination, where Ravenel Ford, SC, fixed the busted hose. The mecanic went out of his way to help us over the phone "at quiting time", we were already hundreds of miles from the dealership at the time and he didn't have to, but he did! He talked to us and looked up numbers to the closest dealerships/ services in the area we were located, in case my husband was not able to get our truck & RV off the interstate. I can't say enough about the kindness of this mechanic and the service department.
I have been dealing with Whitey at German Automotive since 1985. I have restored many vehicles and used Whitey exclusively for all my engine parts and machine work. My last was a 2017 cc stroker for my 60 doublecab. Whitey sold me all the parts, machined all the various parts as needed and basically made this engine "idiot proof" to build. I did have a problem with the full flow oil pump cover plate (threads stripped) I made a call to Whitey and he shipped another out the same day and didn't even asked for the one I had back. I trust Whitey and the parts he sales. I would let no one else do my machine work for me nor would I purchase "mail order" parts due to the fact I like knowing the person on the other side of the counter "Whitey" is a VW fan as well and sells the same parts to me that he uses on his own vehicles.
I have dealt with Whitey since 1987 and always had excellent service, parts and he always goes out of his way to offer the best solution for a fix. I have told people for years about his business. if he does not have what you are looking for he can get it quick. The best part is yes you can deal with the multitudes of mail order places in magazines or online but you cant replace the one on one personal service you get from someone near you. when you deal with mail order its always a pain if the part is not right or breaks but when you deal with someone like Whitey who goes out of his way to make it right you just cant beat that.. sadly because of the mail order too many of our local people like Whitey are fading away. do yourself a favor and deal with someone who you can trust like Whitey..
Whitey is the most knowledgable Vw vender around!! I am amazed he knows the small difference of each year, most people see a Vw bug or bus and assume one part fits all, you be amazed by the small but numerous changes.Whitey will sell you a economical part but will give you the option to buy quality, and not pressure you in your decision. You can't go wrong buying from Whitey. When you buy from online; the parts come wrong, dented, scratched, or very poor Quality, it's nice having Whitey around to buy Quality parts from ,by the time you pay shipping & handling and the waiting, it works out cheaper buying from a local Vw parts store! Plus if you listen you will learn something. Whitey is as unique as the cars he works on! A true treasure in the Vw Community!!!!
I've had several VWs since my high school days and well into college. Whitey has always provided me with honest advice and quality parts. I even crashed my bug in college (not my fault) and he worked with the insurance company & body shop getting them what they needed to repair my car. Whitey is a very honest and capable business owner. He is "old school" so he not only respects people, he expects respect in return and holds people accountable if they try and take advantage of him or his services. These days with the internet and big box stores taking over, it's nice to find a specialist who knows his stuff and is not afraid to show people the door if they disrespect him or his place. Long live German Automotive!
These guys have been in the same location and family for over 30 years! The owner approaches his business in a manner that he feels focuses on taking great care of the customer so that they will keep returning for years to come. The staff in the service department really seem to take your satisfaction personally and work really hard to resolve my concerns quickly while making things as convenient as possible. I love the new quicklane maintenance center they opened a couple of years ago, you can get your oil changed and your brakes there too if you need them, all without an appointment! you can even see what they are doing from the waiting room, and I really like that! Give them a chance, you won't be disappointed.
My pride and joy is my 1972 VW Super Beetle and many many times in the past 6-7 years, I have needed parts for it. All I had to do was call Whitey at German Automotive and the part(s) I needed were readily available. Furthermore, I have thoroughly trusted Whitey in providing the correct part with tips and hints that were very valuable to me. If you are a proud VW owner, the place to shop is German Automotive where you will always receive kind and courteous service! I place my trust in Whitey when it comes to my VW! Thanks Whitey!
Yeah, Whitey is a genuine walking, talking encyclopedia, when it comes to Volkswagens. Whitey, went to great lengths to determine the actual parts needed for my car. He explained, that these cars are all so old, that most of them are not close to original. Making it difficult to determine exactly what is my licensed '74 shell is running with.Whitey asked questions before throwing a part on the counter for me to purchase. I would have to say, Run, don't walk, to German Automotive, if you need VW parts.
German Automotive is a top notch VW parts and machine shop with many years of experience to back it up. Whitey is always helpful and great to deal with and gives expert advice (which you should follow for successful results). There are not many shops left like this anymore and you cannot go wrong shopping here. Whitey is an expert at deciphering old air cooled engines that have been messed with and altered many times over the years by so called mechanics (not an easy job to figure out sometimes).
