Professionalism

I was not very impressed with my first (and last) visit to Pike Dental Center today. While the receptionist, and the ladies I spoke to on the phone while booking the appointment, were very friendly and professional, I was not very impressed with the dentist who I never actually got to meet, Dr. Martino. I was told that they had to take X-rays of my wisdom teeth, and was asked if I tended to gag. I said I did, as I have stomach trouble and tend to produce a lot of acid. At first they said they would try the normal xray, and if it didn't work we could try the panoramic, which they usually use on under 18s (I'm 41). I was expecting the little white card that you normally bite down on, which is a bit uncomfortable, but not a huge deal. Instead it was a black thing, approximately the same size as the white card, but mounted on a sort of stand that looked like a torture device. I tried it a few times, but with no luck. The dental tech went to speak to the doctor a few times, I assume to tell her I was having trouble with it. but apparently the doctor would not consent to a panoramic. I have since looked it up, and panoramics are often used for people with sensitive gag reflexes, so I don't know what the reasons were for her refusing to perform one on me, as she never came out to speak to me (Dr. Martino). I could not have the scheduled cleaning as I could not take the x-rays, so I ended up just leaving. The doctor was clearly unwilling to work along with someone who might have different needs, and I still do not understand why she refused to treat me at all rather than just do the other type of x-ray.
