If I could give this rental company a 0 star rating I would. We had a terrible experience renting a house from them. When we first toured the house we noticed a few things wrong but they assured us that they would have someone by to fix them. When we moved in still no one had come by to fix them and as we continued to move into the house we noticed more amd more things that needed to be fixed. When we called and asked them about it they said to write all of the things in a log and deliver that the following Monday so we would not be charged for them upon move out and they would have someone come by to fix them. A week later still no one showed up. We tried to call them about it but they would not answer and when we left messages they would not return our calls. Some of the main things we had noticed upon move in were the walls and how badly they were scratched up and colored on with crayon and the house was really dirty (especually the carpets, which when we cleaned them the water came up black). We called and asked if we could paint three times and asked about having the carpets cleaned but had to leave messages that again went unreturned. When we went in to ask about why they had not sent anyone out to fix the broken stuff in the house or returned our calls to paint and have the carpets cleaned, they simply stated that they were trying to get ahold of the owner who was a lawyer. Mind you this had been going on for about a little over a month, so in that time they apparently "hadn't talked to the owner once". The carpets were never cleaned by them, the broken things were never fixed, and we were never told we could or couldn't paint. A few weeks later they sent us a bill in the mail for rental insurance ($87) that we had agreed not to buy through them because it was more expensive. We decided to go with our own company because it was cheaper. Still they sent the bill anyways which we desputed. About a month or two later they tried to raise our rent from $975 to $1025 while we were locked into our contract. When we moved out we had to move out early because my boyfriend was involuntarily separated and we couldn't afford the house on my income alone. When we moved out they said they would reimburse him for the security deposit in full which generally takes only a few weeks. He called two months later because he hadn't received the deposit yet but they sent him a notice in the mail saying that the deposit was being withheld for review. When he tried calling to ask why he hadn't received the deposit yet they said they didn't have a reason for why the deposit was being withheld and that they would call back when they found out in about an hour. They didn't call back as promised and when he called them again they said it had been sent the 29th which was a few days after he had called the first time about it and they said the deposit amount was the full amount. He just received the deposit a few days ago and it was for about a third the amount they said it would be. They charged us for carpet cleaning which had not been done when we moved in, they charged a cleaning fee which again had not been done when we moved in, and ghey charged for blinds which were not broken when we left and that upon move in we had to buy and replace blind parts because they were broken then. Before we moved out we cleaned the house top to bottom and cleaned the carpets with a carpet cleaner several times. We had to do the same when we moved in because it was not clean. We are beyond fed up with this rental company and seriously recommend anyone considering renting from them reconsider. Our experience was beyond horrible and we will never rent from them again or reccomend them to anyone else either. Renting for the first time in North Carolina we were hoping for a far better rental experience than what we received but this was NOT it. This was beyond unacceptable and rediculous and I hope no one else has to go through this as we have.
I recently moved from California to North Carolina without a predetermined home to move into. My family was living out of a hotel in Havelock and was still sitting on a rental truck with the associated fees. After trying another realty company and house hunting for a rental property without success, I was very pleased to receive a referral to Clifton Management. Their homes are well maintained and the staff are genuinely good people. In understanding the needs of my family, they were able to approve my first application for the beautiful house we wanted and we were able to move in.... All in less than 24 hours! Also, to address the previous review whereas the company was accused of being racist.... MY WIFE IS OF AFRICAN DECENT. Yes, she is black and Clifton with their staff were some of most kind-hearted and professional people I have had the pleasure of working with. Credit has no skin tone... I would highly recommend Clifton to anyone having housing needs!
I started renting from this company late last year and I absolutely love them. As a single mother on a budget I was not exactly expecting much from my rental company; but Ruth Anne at the Havelock office has always been accommodating and professional. When I first moved in I had a shower temperature issue and I only mentioned it in passing while dropping off my rent and the next day the maintenance crew had it fixed. I've never had any issues with neighbors or maintenance crew. I know if I move I will try to stay renting from Ms Ruth Anne. The only reason I didn't rate it at 5 stars is because to my knowledge there aren't any weekend office hours and this can be inconvenient at times for tenants.
My husband & I are attorneys and former REMI tenants. REMI appears to routinely engage in unfair/unlawful practices, particularly when it comes to trust accounting of security deposits. They took a blanket, general "cleaning fee" out of our security deposit illegally even though the house was meticulously cleaned and maintained, both by us and by professionals. I won't get into the legal nuts & bolts regarding how landlords cannot legally deduct "routine cleaning costs" or charges for "normal wear and tear," but suffice to say that REMI staffers are not law-abiding, honest people. Such a shame. One example (of many): We paid for professional carpet cleaning and dropped the check off at REMI's office. REMI forwarded payment to the cleaning company. A month later, they hired another cleaning company whose receipt charged for "vacuuming carpets in living room." Problem is, we don't have carpets in the living room. And even if we did, that would be double-charging for carpet cleaning. The itemized list also showed charges for "cleaning pantry"... except our kitchen didn't have one. Best of all? They initially failed to include an accounting of the cleaning charges with the return of our security deposit as they should have done under law. We had to contact them after the 30-day deposit return deadline and request the cleaning receipt ourselves. That is just a small example of the level of dishonesty you will get from these folks. I can't even imagine what they try to pull on folks who they deem less educated or resourced. As tenants who are educated professionals with excellent credit who always paid our rent on time, took care of the house, had no kids, and went above and beyond to leave the place better than we found it, you would think we were the kind of tenants REMI hoped to attract and keep. We will be telling all our professional contacts and friends (many of whom would be excellent tenants) to stay far away. Finally, for what it's worth, when we moved in there were human feces in the master bathroom toilet. It stunk up the entire house. It was gross. There were also children's magnets and a family photo from the previous tenants stuck underneath the refrigerator (indicating it hadn't been cleaned). We cleaned up all of this without complaint upon move-in. It just adds insult to injury that REMI is taking these cleaning fees from each tenant upon move-out while clearly *not* cleaning. Also, we didn't leave human feces in the toilet when we moved out, so we left the house VASTLY better than we found it upon our move-in. You're welcome, REMI.
I can only speak upon the two individuals in the Havelock office. Our experience with them was negative. Rude and apathetic. Was told I would be contacted back in 24 hours about a property after inquiring with them numerous times. They never called us back, even after repeated attempts. We went with a different rental company and are much happier.
Before you do anything with this company make sure you ask to see the previous renters pictures. They do not keep track of all maintenance transactions, wait months to fix things, send people who end up making the job worse, and when it's time for you to leave they will send you a bill stating you owe them money for all of the things they "fixed" using your deposit. Owners seem to appreciate them but don't realize that every time something is wrong and you call REMI, they state that the owner is the problem with them being late for maintenance.
This rental agency is racist. I applied for a home online..they called my husband and told him that he was approved. Our income is 6 times the amount that's required for renting a home. Once I get there and they see that I am African American they give me an excuse that the application wasn't approved..after they called him and said that he was approved prior to seeing me. I am new to the area and have never experienced anything like this. Luckily we were approved for something bigger and better. Yes RACISM still exists. Overall rating 0..but that's not an opotion!
Do not rent from them. We needed a short term rental while we waited for our house to be built. We lived there for just 4 months. The house we moved into had bugs on the floor, it was noted in the walkthrough (which was a month late-- and ONLY because we ASKED for it) and the girl who did the walk through told us we didnt' have to shampoo it when we left because it clearly wasn't clean. There were also items left in the fridge, etc upon move in. When we went to move out, they charged us almost 500.00 for a (unnecessary) flea treatment, carpet cleaning, and cleaning fee. I personally cleaned the house for 2 days making sure to do EVERYTHING on their checklist. We never missed a rent payment and took excellent care of the home. They also failed to install carbon monoxide detectors & replace the seal on our toilet until weeks later. Do not rent from these people, nor let them manage your house (if you are a homeowner). I would give them no stars if I could.
Don't rent from them. They have bad carpet and you will move in with it, write it on the sheet of paper, then when you PCS (move across the country or OCONUS) your family with get the Deposit back with $250 less than what you gave them b/c they claim you stained the carpets. When I move I always take pictures, but I don't have the energy when I'm +5000 miles around to debate it and argue because over the phone it is useless. I have had friends live there, rent is different for everyone; I guess it depends on how desperate they are for people to move in. They will fine you for leaving a door unlocked in the apartments and with both apartments and townhouse fine you for leaving the trashcan out for a day. Yet they can't do their job and fix up the place when people move in. If they can get your money, they will.
most unprofessional company i have every dealt with in my life. our house has many issues, none of which have been 100% fixed or even bothered with. having two children in a home that definitely has mold we are ALWAYS SICK it is not okay.none of the carpets are attached to the ground no padding, anything. BUGS ARE ALWAYS COMING THROUGH THE BASEBOARDS.our water heater has a giant puddle around it and said "just keep an eye on it"laundry room full of bugs and always has a slimy moisture on the floor in there and in the useless garage we cant use because it does not fit a car but yet we pay for a "garage" the windows all have screens that are to small for the window so we cant even open the windows. most of the windows that do open you have to prop up and they fall off the tracks easy but they wont fix. my daughter nearly lost her hands because it fell and slammed and almost got them caught. the owner will not speak to us t wont give us deposit back so we can find somewhere safer to live.
