Eyelid Surgery
Over time there are many causes of vision limitations. Drooping eyelids are not often thought of as one of these problems. Excess eyelid skin occurs as the skin stretches and becomes thinner with time. If this occurs, it may produce a feeling of heaviness or fatigue. It can also limit the field of vision. This may interfere with everyday activities like reading and driving. If needed, this problem can be corrected surgically. Prior to surgery, a consultation is performed to meet with the surgeon and determine the need for the surgery.
Blepharoplasty
Then, a few tests and measurements are performed to document the extent of the visual impairment. If the surgeon feels it is medically necessary for you to have excess skin removed from your upper eyelids, your insurance may cover the procedure. Lower eyelids can also be operated on, however this is considered cosmetic and will not be covered by your medical insurance. During the recovery period there may be bruising and swelling which usually last for one to two weeks. Follow up care includes the removal of sutures and assessment of your results.
