I will start by saying that I've gotten great manicures at Pink Nails but unfortunately it is an establishment that discriminates against black people. The manager (and possibly the owner) a man humiliated, embarrassed and disrespected me last Friday. I called earlier that day to make an appointment with my preferred nail technician and he made an appointment for me for 3:30 pm. When I arrived at 3:30 pm the shop was very busy. He told me that he had made a mistake and that she had another appointment at that time but that I could wait. I agreed to wait to see whomever was free. After I arrived, two other young ladies arrived who (based on appearance) were not black. He quickly asked them to select nail colors while I sat between them and he offered me nothing (although I had arrived before). After several minutes passed three school-aged white girls came in and they went right to looking at nail colors although they did not appear to have appointments.. Several more minutes passed and he approached me and asked me STEP OUTSIDE TO SPEAK WITH HIM!!!!! I was embarrassed but allowed him to escort me outside. He told me that he the shop was too busy as more people had arrived and asked me to reschedule my appointment. I have never been escorted out of a nail shop and asked to leave, especially after I had called to make an appointment (which he cancelled once I got there). I was shocked and too humiliated to disagree so I allowed him to make another appointment for me all whilst the others-who had arrived after me and had not been asked to leave-watched. I try to be thoughtful before I throw around words like "prejudice" and "racist" but I have no other way to explain this incident. I will never return to Pink Nails for service and I urge people of color to find another establishment that respects non-white individuals and our buying potential. Whilst the nail clinicians are good, the manager and owner has a clear preference for white customers.
I was looking for another salon and I think I found it. This couple is the best! They both did my nails when they were working at another salon up Dixwell. I am geneneral nail person nothing too fancy! But what ever it is Sky treated me well and did a perfect job on my acrylics. Great spot if you simply want it your way.....THEY KNOW HOW AND ALL THR MODERN STYLES.....
No frils no lotion no finish product! I even had white ash on my hands when he said all set! No wash hands No smile no music no conversation....this was not at any level!
I have been going to this nail place for a little over 10 years. I go there now mainly for my eyebrows. However, that place has gone down, quality wise, since the previous owner, Linda, was there. The husband that works in there does not like to do pedicures and always gets upset when someone comes in and asks for one and makes you wait long periods of time until his wife is free to take you. Meanwhile he is just standing there doing nothing and on the off chance that he does do your pedicure he rushes through it and it isn't worth the money you pay. This place is good for eyebrows. I can't speak for the nails (manicures, full set etc) because I do not get my nails done there.
Ivy is very personable and makes you feel so comfortable. I've been many places and once I found her I've only gone to her. The other people who work there are great also. Awesome prices too. Check it out... you will not be disappointed
It is a very nice place to get a manicure and pedicure. It is also very clean and i would highly recommend this place. Will be going back there for sure!!!
