I love Sams food

Been here once and food was fresh and very tasty.
Love their lobster rolls because the ingredients are fresh and the roll is soft. I also ordered calamari and oyster, they are pretty good too.
Fresh delicious seafood with a spectacular view of the ocean. Loved it

More than chowder on the menu

From the road, the building looks simple and unpretentious. Inside is a large, rustic, open space with a long bar, wooden tables, and chairs. There are big windows and a deck overlooking the bay and the ocean beyond.

The menu is sizable and features some seasonal selections. The fare is pricey. We decided to forego the namesake chowder and touted lobster roll in favor of grilled fish tacos, that day's special. These were modestly priced relative to the menu items. The serving included two tacos and a small side of cole slaw. The tortillas were fresh and warm, the chunks of fish appreciable and grilled to perfection. The pre-applied sauces and accompaniments were too busy and cloying for my tastes, overpowering the flavor of fresh, grilled fish. I removed much of what I could from mine and enjoyed them more. The cole slaw included onions and green peppers. I preferred it to the standard cabbage-carrot-and-semi-sweet-dressing variety.

Though the grilled fish tacos made a fine lunch, my curiosity was piqued by some of the imaginative appetizers. We shared one of seared sea scallops with a fresh green pea puree and a sprinkling of tiny pea sprouts. It turned out to be delightful. If the rest of the fare was prepared with similar skill, I could understand the prices a bit more.

Service was inconsistent. We observed two other tables receiving top flight service from different waitresses. Our waiter was cool, nonchalant, and indifferent to our experience. This is something Sam's had better fix. One cannot justify the cost of dining there if the service and the food are not exceptional.

Awesome seafood!

I love great seafood & was raised on it growing up. We had Bake Oysters Rockefeller, Steamed Manilla Clams, Fried Calamari, New England Chowder, Caesar Salad and of course a couple of glases of Pinot Grigio wine. The designated driver drank soda of course. All I can say it was the very best in a very long time. The french bread was so fresh & of course I used it to soak up the wonderful broth of the steamed clams. The calamari was the freshest I have ever had. We had a nice window table. The service was great as well. I will go back in a heartbeat.

calamari, popcorn shrimp, and ahi - oh my!

Service is sweet and so are their sides and entrees. The sweet corn and string beans are absolutely amazing sides and I know I'm in love with their clam chowder.

We adore this perfectly placed restaurant in Half Moon Bay... It's a small southward drive coming from Pacifica and unquestionably worthwhile ride to dine at this magnificent establishment.

They get romantic points for dinner ambiance too!

Great seafood, good service, Dramatic views

I love this place. Been there four times...twice for dinner and twice for lunch. The first time was soon after they opened and you you see they needed work to smooth things out. But my last three visits were great! Food is fresh, well cooked seafood. Not what you expect from an ocean front restaurant...far better. The service was casual but good, especially considering how busy this place was. Chowder was outstanding, lobster roll over the top, my husband had the escolar and it was fabulous. The red chowder is also great, although a little spicy. Fantastic ocean views. Highly recommend this place.

Avoid at all costs.

Worst Clam Chowder in the entire universe. If you mix it 50/50 with tabasco it will tast like tabasco. Tabasco tastes good. Who in their right mind rated this place before me. I ran home to find somewhere to bash this place. Overpriced, terrible food but i have to admit the service is great. They even screwed up a gin & tonic. Wow, Let's see, everyone at our table barely made it out alive. The Calimari was the best meal because it did not have taste. How do you make clam chowder without milk cream or clams? It was clear. My guess is the prior 19 reviews to mine were employees and owners of this joint. A place using chowder in their name and being the worst chowder is an absolute joke. Save your money and go to McDonalds for a Mcfish sandwich at least it will taste like McDonalds grease.
