(#1) It was a pain to make a reservation due to noone ever answers the phone or answers email. OK 3rd day I finally get a call back. Now I have made my reservation.( #2) When we drove up it looked like something from a horror movie it was so nasty ALOT of the campers are permanent residents. (#3) As we are making our way in I'm seeing a hand written sign stuck to a soccer ball goal "Office this way" It's a mobile home. I get out to check in and to my surprise noone is there. So now what? A couple on a golf cart drives up tells us oh we are the managers when the manager isn't available and tells us to park any place.( #4) We found one and got set up NOW the electrical unit is bad. The mystery hunt to find someone in charge of maintenance has begun. . Finally someone shows up and electrical switch has to be replaced. (#5) It's bad when your teenage son is scared to go to the bathhouse. I have never stayed anyplace so nasty. This is a VERY LOW END CAMPGROUND!

Oh my gosh! So! My friend booked us at Southport for the 3 day music festival in Gulf Shores May 16-18th. Sandy [queen bee] and her crew went above and beyond to accommodate everyone there. The campground is just that.. If you're looking for a place to set up camp for a few nights [tent or camper] it's great! You've got your basic necessities for camping, a place to set up, bathrooms, and showers! Sandy and her helpers that weekend even made breakfast for that weekend for all of the hangout goers [and let me tell you.. There were a lot of us]. Maybe I liked it better then the other review posted here because my expectations weren't super high for a CAMPGROUND! As long as I have a place to sleep, shower, and use the bathroom... I'm a happy camper. . Haha. The staff also provided shuttles for us to and from the beach, AND had karaoke and dance contests that weekend. I would go back for sure, just to hang out with the people who run the campground, not to mention it was one of the best weekends of my life, and southport was a part of it... ♡
Rarely would I go through the trouble of writing any sort of review, but my experience at South Port was infuriating enough to push me. I was recently there for Hangout Music Festival. I reserved a spot for 3 nights. However, I was on the fence about whether or not I would stay over a fourth night (Sunday night). I arrived on Thursday and checked in. An elderly woman was taking the cash payments for the camping spots. I asked her if I should pay for 3 nights and decided whether or not I would stay the fourth. She told me to go ahead and pay for 4 nights and that if I decided to leave, to tell them that day and they would give me by money back for the final night. Well, that weekend I found out that my first love from high school died. That on top of a lot of other little things made me decide to leave Sunday night and get home to take care of things. So, like the elderly woman said, I went to the office to get my money back for the fourth night I would not be staying there. Instead of the elderly woman, a middle-aged blonde named Sandy was in her place. When I asked for the cash back that the elderly woman promised me, she told me that it was not their policy to give refunds and offered an IOU for my next stay. I told her that I lived 5 hours away and did not know if I would ever come back, so that was pointless. She told me that the elderly woman was a volunteer and did not know the policy. I told her that it was South Port’s responsibility to make sure their volunteers had the right information. Sandy refused to apologize for my misinformation and instead, without me asking for anything but the refund I was promised, she got very aggressive. Without cursing, threatening, or raising my voice, I continued to fight my case on the refund. She raised her voice, told me to be quiet, and threatened to make me regret it if I continued to argue with her. She prattled on about how she was sick of these “festival kids” treating her like she was inferior. I believe that she viewed me as a reckless college kid and carried an old fashioned, southern, “respect your elders” mentality, rather than viewing me as a customer and her as an employee as any legitimate professional establishment would. I assured her that I was not a “kid” but a highly educated military veteran who was completely sober and sound minded, despite my attendance at Hangout. When I asked to speak to the owner, she told me that he wouldn’t believe a thing I said because he’s known her far longer. When I asked for her first and last name, she refused to give it to me. She refused to give me the owner’s name and contact information. She refused to let me speak to anyone of authority. When I was trying to get the company’s information, a burly, overweight middle aged men told me that I had 30 minutes to get off the property or they would call the police. I never got my money back and ended up paying for the night I was forbidden to stay there. (Sandy claimed that the owner would send me a check via snail mail, but I have justifiable reason not to trust a word she speaks). I have never been kicked out of any place in my life. I have no history of anger or violence. I have a completely clean background. I did not curse, raise my voice, or threaten anyone once. Never in my life have I experienced such a horrific example of customer service or interacted with such a nasty, emotionally unstable employee. I am appalled by their lack of information on basic questions their employees possess and their ethical negligence with customer interaction. In seeing their other reviews, I can tell that there is a solid pattern in their lack of professionalism and social skills. Although I will likely never get my money back, I can honestly say that if I return to hangout next year, I’d rather camp in a dumpster than Southport again. In a nutshell, they are thieves. I highly advise against contributing a dime to their corrupt business handling.
