Here's what I had posted on their page back when I had issues with them. They deleted it within 24 hours and blocked me from being able to post a rating for their business. Shady as "f" if you ask me. - golden rule
HI there! We had your business come to our house earlier this summer to quote the price for a furnace, check the air conditioner, etc. We STILL HAVE NOT received an estimate to replace the furnace... HOWEVER you did install a thermostat at a cost of approximately $200.00 (which by the way as you should probably know is useless to us if we have another company install the furnace, which we HAD do since none of us including our children could survive without heat in the winter. Attempts to try to get your company to quote an installation price were unsuccessful. You claimed the email address was invalid however you had THREE phone numbers and TWO mailing addresses in addition and there's no evidence to suggest that you, at any time, tried to contact us via those means. Your answering service apparently did not relay that we needed that quote immediately when I called well over a month ago. It wasn't until the end of summer, after the 100+ degree temps that your company did contact us and try to set up an appointment to check the air conditioning unit. We no longer need the ac check up because the company that installed our new furnace checked it. They also installed their own thermostat because as we were informed by EVERY other business that DID send us a quote the furnace warranty requires that they also install the thermostat. Your company received payment of approximately $400.00 which was paid in good faith and under the agreement that in return that at the VERY MINIMUM we would receive a product and installation quote.... for that price we received a $200.00 thermostat that we cannot use and were informed that the furnace needed to be replaced.... that's it.... All this time has elapsed and we still have not received a quote from your company.... YET now that summer's almost over you want to check the air conditioning unit and make absolutely NO MENTION of the furnace... I'm extremely disappointed in the (lack of) service / quote / product especially considering the fact that money could have been spent on other necessities like buying school clothes and supplies for my children or a months worth of groceries. a weekend getaway for my family or even Christmas gifts. The attempts I've made to contact your business were unsuccessful. "Ashley" the middle aged woman that works for your answering service misplaced the first message I left and was rude and belligerent during the follow up call I made. I believe that if this issue isn't satisfactorily resolved within 2 weeks that I'll have no other option but to contact the Attorney General from the state of Iowa. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
I could not be more pleased with the quality of work, the competence of each person I've had contact with, the quality and function of the new HVAC system. In addition, the service after the installation has been extraordinary and on going. They charge a little more, but they earn every bit of it. They do more!
I will never use Golden Rule again, They sent a tech out to our house for a furnace problem. The first gentlemen was very nice, but my husband had installed a part to try to fix it, and he said to see if it would work, and gave us no service charge. The fix wasnt successful so we called Golden Rule back and they sent a technician to our house late in the evening. She said she could only run a 99 dollar diagnostic test, but not anything more. Im sure they didnt like their first technician didnt charge us a service fee, and they did absolutely zero, and left our house without fixing anything. It seems odd they would turn down a paying customer. The women looked like she was ready to go to a nightclub. No uniform, right down to wearing high heels. Im not quite sure why the even sent her out. We needed it diagnosed and fixed. Not just diagnosed. Shocking behavior, from a long time company, that we have used and recommended in the past. Never again.
I had this company out to my house and was completely shocked how incompetent their staff was. It stated with the "plumber" not knowing the difference between a water supply line and a waste line. After being told I had a $600 problem (which I knew what the problem was) I ended up kicking them out of my house and fixing the problem for $4 myself. Avoid using this company at all costs.
Had Golden Rule replace the blower on my vented water heater. The part was covered under warranty, but the labor was not. Golden Rule could not tell me what the price of labor would be, just the total cost ($768) and that I would then get the money back on the part after they were reimbursed for the part. Technician was there for 20 minutes to troubleshoot it, and came back 2 days later since they had to order the part. It took 10 minutes to install the part. Long story short, the net cost to me was $461 for 30 minutes of labor….Never again.
I found City Rule (a.k.a. Golden Rule) through the BBB and decided to have them look at a problem I was having with my furnace. They correctly diagnosed a problem with the inducer blower and quoted $690.00 to repair. I decided to look into the repair myself and I was able to buy a replacement part for $125.00, and the install only took me 25 minutes.
I gave them one star because I feel there quote was grossly over priced, and I feel like they were trying to take advantage of me. If you get a quote from City Rule make sure to get a second opinion.
