Sonic Drive-In

I was very disappointed with Sonic on our last visit, 23JULY15. We were over charged and the two people with whom I spoke did not have either the cognitive skills to understand what I was saying or the basic math skills to realize their error.



I took my wife and two grandchildren to Sonic for the summer 1/2 price milkshakes after 2000 hours. I ordered three large master shakes and one medium classic shake. I had to repeat the order four times. Her English skills were very sub-par so I don't know if it was her English comprehension skills or the speaker just was not working well. The large master shakes are listed on the menu screen as $4.99 (Therefore $2.50 half price.) and the medium classic shakes are listed as $3.79 ($1.90 half price). The price should have been about $9.40 plus tax. The woman, over the speaker, first gave me a price of almost $13. It was about $12.90, +/-, I don't now recall exactly. That was more than I knew it should have been and balked at the price.



She asked me to repeat the order again, it took two additional repeats, and she came back with a price of a little over $11. I knew that was still too much. She kept reciting a litany of excuses as to why the price was correct: "Don't pay any attention to the menu screen the computer does is all", "Don't pay any attention to the menu screen, it's the codes that we punch in", "The codes correct everything", "The computer does it all'... etc.



A woman came out with the receipt and tried all the same excuses as the woman over the speaker. The receipt clearly showed that the charge on the receipt was $0.30/shake over the price shown on the menu. Is this false advertising?!? During the following discussion they gave me three different prices in the $10 range. Eventually, I paid $10.71, which was about $0.75 over what it should have been, based on my own calculations. I didn't like it but I was frustrated and just wanted to get my family home. It was only about 75 cents, that was their last stated price, but by then it was the principle.



It does make me wonder how many times that they overcharge people and get away with it because customers don't know that they are being overcharged or choose not to say anything.
