Here's the deal. Cascade is a nice and friendly place. Its clean. It has great equipment. The people there go out of their way to create a pleasant environment for you.
The catch: You will pay for every little thing they can possibly get you to pay for beyond your already above average cost bill... and then some. Its almost like tipping at a bar or restaurant. After a while you just do it without even thinking.
The trick is, to find as many things possible that are free and convince your friends to join you in these activities. It can be done if you smart about it.
Remember this if you join and take heed! Happy gym and club hunting.

I joined this club to do the Biggest Loser program with Ken Coleman from season 3 of the biggest loser. I think this man is an amazing person with a big heart. He is so worth the money. I not only signed up myself for this gym but also my husband and my children too. My husband got 2 free vists with Ken not that he needed it then my kids each got 1 visit with Ken with part of our membership. He was amazing with all of them he worked on their goals and what they want to accomplish. So if you looking for a club that you can get alot for your $$$ and are tired of those GYMS that require long contracts and are chain owned.. This this would be the club for you.. They have 3 clubs total to chose from..

My husband and I joined Cascade after touring ALL the gyms in the area. We could feel the difference as soon as we walked in the doors. Their staff was super friendly and the atmosphere was pleasant. Members looked like real people, it wasn't intimidating. There are tons of activities and camps for our kids and we can all use the outdoor waterpark! I love the free group fitness classes. The kids love Cascade so we can go together as a family. It's certainly not the cheapest club, but it's comfortable, clean and everyone is SO nice. Overall, it's a good investment for our family.

All I want to do is work out on the cardio machines and weights and they are charging 59.00 a month starting January 1. Their machines are newer and it has a comfortable atmosphere. I really don't care about the snack bar considering I go to work out and not to eat. The locker room isn't really that nice and the floor is always wet due to people coming back from the pool. I guess that if you like to play tennis and raquetball it is good for that but I really think that they are way too expensive. Also it is sometimes pretty stuffy in there.

Ken is an excellent trainer - ethusiastic & experienced with diet, exercise, and weight loss maintainance. He charges about $30-$40/hr. CAC has tons of exercise equip to choose from & keep adding new machines. They have pools, gyms, tennis, raquetball, hot tubs, & a great snack bar (try the banana, protein, yogurt shakes). CAC is more expensive than others I've been a member at (Bally, LA, 24, Naut etc), but you really get what you pay for! My health is worth it. It makes more sense to pay for a nice gym membership ($55/month) - where you actually feel confortable being sweaty at, than pay much more in later years in health bills. You could always work out on your own without a gym but will you - especially in the cold, rainy weather? CAC is quieter & cleaner than other clubs. LA's locker room is TINY! The trainers are horrid and UNPROFESSIONAL. They do have good weight equipment though.

We joined Cascade for two reasons, location to our home and the small business feel. When we moved we wanted to utilize their other clubs as they were much closer to our new home. Well, since we joined at the 205 location we could only use the little Gresham club, which has no pool, and if we wanted to use the other we had to pay an upgrade fee plus and extra $30 per month.
They say it is a much nicer club, I suppose it is, if you want to use a dance studio...All we wanted was to have access to the same amenities that we were offered at the 205 club...we called about our concerns and had no luck coming up with a solution, really they didn't seem to care how we felt. Really, I wasn't really very disappointed, as the staff at the big gym in Gresham has a whole lot lacking.
We canceled our membership and joined LA Fitness...They have all the amenities plus quite a few extras and we are paying almost $600 per year less with them than if we would have upgraded to Cascades ""nicer"" club. (Our monthly dues with LA are way less than if we would have stayed with Cascade and didn't upgrade, plus, the savings is even taking into consideration the registration fee we payed with LA, and we can use all the clubs in Oregon.)
One more thing, Cascades equipment is all over the place and everything has that slightly worn out look. With LA fitness, all the ab machines are together, all the leg machines together and so on...plus you can tell that everything is clean. The locker rooms are spotless and the pool isn't like a YMCA pool that you have to watch out for the random child...it's a lap pool, exactly how a gym should be.
We always try to support local companies so switching over to a big corporate gym didn't sit well with us, but we can only support a local company as long as the company supports the locals.
