Do not train or communicate with their techs well.

I have had Charter for the past year with minimal problems. I recently moved and decided to continue with Charter, and upgrade some of my services. I have had techs to my house 4 different times. The initial HD box they gave us didn't work. They had to replace it. They left wires hanging out of the walls in a few places. They left the smart panel in my garage unscrewed and on the floor. The panels in a couple of bedrooms that they DID actually cover, they left the plastic bags and extra screws on the floor.

The only technician that actually was helpful and very courteous, was one that was subcontracted.

They still haven't finished their job. My landline isn't hooked up. It's been 3 weeks.

But I refuse to wait on them anymore. They always come at the end of the "convenient 3 hour windows" and half the time will call and tell you that their tech is running late and won't be there in that window of time. One guy didn't even show up. No call or anything.

Don't bother to call and complain, either. You'll get transferred to 4 different people.

If I could I would not give Charter even 1 star. They are like most cable companies--crappy quality & crappy service for too much money. I have been waiting for AT&T's U-verse to roll out in Greenville, and now I have finally made the switch and am loving it. If you are considering getting service with Charter, instead call Direct TV for great HD service, AT&T U-verse for a great bundle and good service, or Dish Network if you are worried about price. Charter has poor tv quality, un-reliable internet, and I'm not sure where they are hiring their phone reps, but these people could care less. Here is one of Charters biggest down falls--they sub out the installation work. K&S Communications is the local installer, and they will never show up on time, many times not at all. They never set appropriate time aside for the customer, and WILL damage your property (scratching floors, dirtying walls, breaking molding, and on & on).

I switched to Charters competitor and am paying about $15 more a month. Well worth the extra money to get a FAR superior product & service. Good-Bye Charter forever!



Unsatisfied Customer

I'm new to Charter and joined during a promotional bundle package. On 8/23/08, I paid $161.53 w/ my VISA and Charter took an additional $161.53 on top of that the same day. When I called the toll free number to dispute, I kept getting transferred. Finally, a supervisor got on the phone and approved my refund which was to be back in my bank w/in 48HRS. Til this day, I still haven't received it. And it royally screwed up my account w/ several bank fees. Everytime I call, I get someone foreign speaking and they can't never give me a resolution. They even told me to fax a copy of my bank statement to a fax number that keeps saying "no answer". How can they get away with this?



Horrible Service

They absolutely do not answer their phone. Although I paid my last bill and it cleared my bank, Charter is saying it has not been paid. They want me to take the time (off work I might add) to go to my bank, get an official letter of payment on letterhead and then either fax it to Charter or take it to the local branch. Why should I have to foot the bill so to speak for their screw up? When you call the 888-GET-CHAR phone line the customer service people are 'snarky' and say things like 'I am so sorry you feel that it is an inconvenience...' etc. I also used to have phone service with Charter until they listed my unisted phone number and sold my contact information to telemarketers (while still charging me for the unlisted service). This type of service is why I cancelled my home phone and switched to DirecTv for my TV service. Too bad I can't do the same with my internet. Stay far away from Charter!!!!



The Worst Customer Service EVER

I cannot believe how Charter gets away with it!

I switched from satellite to cable based on a promotion that would send me a $200 check. It never came and when I called about it, I was called a liar and told that they had never heard of that promotion. It had been plastered all over their internet for at least a month! How are these guys able to con and scam like this without getting into legal trouble?! I have no idea!

Furthermore, my first two bills contained services that we did NOT sign up for and we called numerous times to have them removed with a promise of credits on the next bill. NEVER HAPPENED! They are STILL charging us for these services even after we asked for them to be removed!

Video On Demand has NEVER worked from day one. We have stayed home from work 3 times so far. The first two technicians who came out could not fix the problem, but left promising that it would work within 30 minutes. The third appointment the technician didn't even show up! They didn't call or anything, just DID NOT SHOW UP! After calling the 888-GETCHAR line, we were told that our local dispatch had rescheduled the appointment. No phone call, no consent, they just DID IT.

This has been the absolute WORST customer service I have EVER experienced with a company. Charter is a terrible company full of scam artists and cons who only care about collecting your hard earned money. It doesn't matter to them if your service actually works or not. It doesn't matter if you get your promotional check or not. It doesn't matter to them as long as they are getting their money from you... I wonder how long it would take them to cut the cable if I just stopped paying for this crap? I have a feeling that department is the ONLY department in Charter who cares.

To top off the frustration, these local numbers are SHAMS. All local numbers listed for Charter either ring endlessly or give you a voicemail that is so full you can't even leave a message.

I will be doing everything I can at this point to leave Charter and go with someone else. I don't even care who. It's too bad that the phone companies are not much better, but dealing with AT&T was 10 times easier, and that isn't saying much about AT&T, let me tell you.

MY ADVICE: STAY FAR AWAY FROM CHARTER! They will only cause you heartache and pain! I would rate this company at ZERO stars if I were able to!
