I think Dr. Hassell had great skills. Unfortunately, she represented herself as a licensed counselor at the time and it turned out she was not (it was on her brochure). I complained to the state of North Carolina. Reportedly, she told the NC board she did not need to be licensed since she was an ordained minister. No, a license is not necessary to be a good counselor. However, transparency and honesty are required. I think she was deceptive and it changed my opinion of her. This was some years ago and perhaps she has learned. Interestingly, she was helpful and I had grown fond of her. I was hurt and disappointed. From then on, I always verified a counselor's licensure.
