Founded in 1923, Colorado Air National Guard is based at Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora in Colorado. It maintains 120th Aero Observation Squadron. The organization has more than 140 Air Guard units throughout the United States and its territories. It conducts pararescue mission, modular airborne firefighting support, combat communications and air traffic control operations. Colorado Air National Guard specializes in the protection of lives and properties, preservation of peace, and order and public safety. Its missions are funded through individual states, including disaster relief in times of earthquakes, hurricanes, floods and forest fires, as well as search and rescue and support to civil defense.
