The selection of saltwater fish is excellent. They will also order specialty fish and equipment. Their service is above and beyond. The staff is very personable and knowledgeable. I would, and have, recommend Blue Fish to others.
While I was at one point amazed with Blue Fish, I have come to strongly dislike it. The fish selection is amazing, but very over priced. The staff has only one or two employees that know what they are talking about, but other than that you get answers like " I think" or "maybe" how is this helpful to someone who is trying to purchase a product from you? Not to mention their return policy. When I spend a hundred dollars on a python gravel vaccum and it doesn't work, I took it back to the store thinking that this would be a non-issue. As it turns it is a issue, only the manager can do refunds so she comes over to help me and she sees that it was used, how else am I going to find out that it didn't work? I explain that the product does not work and the only way that she will do a return is with a ten percent restocking fee, why would it need to be restocked? It doesn't work.
Awesome place, beautiful fish.
I live in Lansing and have the benefit of getting fish from my very large and nice local pet store Pruess Pets, but expected a similar level of competency from a business that models our local pet store closely. What I find is when it comes to freshwater aquatic plants their prices are high the portion sizes are ridiculous and most of the cool stuff is not for sale even though staff tell you they carry most of the plants found in the display tanks. The people in the freshwater area in general act glazed over and clueless. I've had good experiences with their reptile department but considering I specialize in high tech tanks and cool aquatic plants this repeat experience has led me to decide to not even bother. I've been to this place 6 times and it's the same story when it comes to aquatic plants
