Dental Examination
Our next goal during your initial visit, is to evaluate your current state of oral health. We do this together through a process of co-diagnosis and co-discovery. We will perform a complete oral examination of your teeth, gums, bone, jaw joint, and bite. Based upon what we discover, and what your goals are, we will determine what other records are necessary such as X-rays, photographs, models of your teeth, etc.
X-rays
Previous diagnostic information such as X-rays are certainly beneficial in understanding your dental history (how you got to where you are). But, some routine dental x-rays are not diagnostic for all the conditions we are screening for. It will frequently be necessary to take a new 3-D image of your jaw joint. This image is called a CBCT scan or Cone Beam and is not typically found in most dental offices.

Teeth Cleaning
Developmentally appropriate skills for each individual child. Also, we’ll take the confusion out of many choice of teeth-cleaning items (brushes, pastes, flossers, pics, fluorides, etc.) which are available today. Our goal at each visit is for each child to take one more step toward optimal dental health for the rest of their life.
Dental Sealants
PLAY with our dental materials. Take an impression of your mouth and, with plaster, turn it into a replica model and learn how to place a sealant or a composite filling.

Fillings
Silver fillings, also known as dental amalgam fillings, are composed of mercury, silver, copper, tin, and sometimes zinc. All silver fillings contain approximately 45-55% mercury. Liquid mercury is used as a bonding component that fastens all the other alloy particles together into a durable filling. This material has been used for more than 150 years in order to fill cavities created by tooth decay. This practice is still commonly used in traditional dentistry throughout the United States among other countries around the world.
Resin Composite
Grabill Family Dentistry is committed to putting our patients first. This is why we have decided to no longer utilize dental amalgam along with incorporating a Mercury Safe removal protocol. We offer dental material biocompatibility testing along with mercury free and BPA-free composite resin filling materials to ensure patient health. Due to the high amount of mercury vapor discharge when silver fillings are removed, we abide by the Mercury Safe removal protocol (SMART) to ensure safety for our patients and our dental team. Veneers
The best way to start your veneer process is to find the perfect cosmetic dentist to perform the procedure for you. It is important to find a dentist who will listen to you, show you examples of previous work, spend time talking you through the process, has proper credentials and has extensive positive reviews. After you have found the dentist right for you, it is time to decide how you want your smile to look. Using today’s modern technology, your dentist should be able to create a blueprint of your smile and show you a before and after. Teeth Whitening
It is the most convenient and often least expensive option. If you are a patient who has tried over-the-counter options like whitening toothpastes or strips and didn’t receieve the outcome you’ve desired, then perhaps a professional option is right for you. While we don’t discourage the use of OTC options, we do want our patients to understand that these options may not give you the results you want. If you want an extreme transformation then OTC will never reach that level of quality.

Dr. Kolkman’s parents instilled in him the value of giving back to the community and the less fortunate. In 2013, as an associate dentist, he started Veteran's Dental Day which is an annual day of service for local veterans to receive free dental care at our office. To date, our office has served more than 500 veterans and donated more than $150,000 of dental work. He also volunteers frequently at the Matthew 25 Dental Clinic in Fort Wayne as a dentist and member of the advisory board as well as at the St. Martin's Dental Clinic in Garrett as a dentist. He is a member of the American Dental Association, Indiana Dental Association, Isaac Knapp District Dental Society, and the Academy of General Dentistry.
