Dental Examination
Each preventive care visit is important for keeping tabs on oral health. Here at Casper Children’s Dental Clinic we like to reward each child for having a perfect checkup. When their dental exam shows that they have been brushing and flossing and have no cavities to report, they become a member of our No Cavity Club!
X-rays
Appropriate dental x-rays are taken to check for tooth-decay and possible periodontal problems. Your child’s bite (occlusion) will be closely monitored at each visit, and interceptive strategies will be recommended when needed. Also, the eruption of your child’s teeth will be assessed to ensure their proper alignment in the dental arch.
Oral Cancer Screening
Oral cancer knows no age, which is why it’s important that your teen receive an oral cancer screening during their regular checkup. With thousands of people being diagnosed each year, early detection is key if you want to increase your chances of beating the disease. During your teen’s regular visit, we will look for any abnormalities throughout the mouth, along the facial structure, and even ask about any problems they may be experiencing at home (i.e., hoarse voice, sore throat, etc.). Should we discover anything that might be a cause for concern, we will recommend you and your teen to a specialist for further testing.

Teeth Cleaning
The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends that children receive six-month dental checkups and cleanings to help minimize the risk of tooth decay and cavities. Drs. Roy and Ryne Paulson will make these visits fun, enjoyable, and informative. We will check for any potential problems associated with your child’s teeth, gums, or bite before performing a gentle cleaning to remove hardened plaque and tartar. We’ll also provide helpful at-home oral hygiene tips to keep smiles clean between appointments.
Fluoride Treatment
Cavity prevention is the most essential element of pediatric dentistry. Kids are very cavity-prone, and we want to help strengthen their enamel and prevent tooth decay. Twice-yearly visits for cavity prevention, including cleanings and fluoride treatments, are the foundation of preventive pediatric dentistry in Casper, WY and are usually covered by most dental insurance plans.
Dental Sealants
By forming a thin covering over the pits and fissures of a tooth, sealants keep out plaque and food particles, thus decreasing the risk of decay. The best-looking option to restoring damaged anterior teeth is the composite strip crown. The Paulsons routinely perform these veneer-like restorations on mildly to moderately decayed anterior teeth. The pre-veneered zirconia crown may be recommended over the composite crown in severely decayed teeth and children whose upper and lower incisors touch when they bite.
Crowns
CCDC now offers esthetic options for badly broken down anterior teeth. Often times when a front tooth becomes badly broken down from dental caries (often due to nighttime bottle feeding), tooth-colored composite crowns are no longer a viable long-term option. In these cases, we may recommend a full-coverage crown that has a white facing. These types of restorations are long lasting, protect the tooth from further bacterial harm, and look great!
Dental Bonding
While cosmetic dental treatments may seem like something that is only for adults, teens can benefit from dental bonding. This effective solution makes it possible to hide small flaws found on your teen’s teeth. Small cracks, fractures, chips, and even stains can be remedied using color-matched composite resin. Once applied to the surface of your tooth, our team will shape and sculpt it into place to effectively cover the imperfection and create a new and improved smile. Stainless steel crowns are required when a tooth has undergone extensive loss of tooth structure from tooth decay, and/or after a tooth has received a pulpotomy (i.e. baby tooth root canal). Stainless steel crowns are inferior to none as far as durability and longevity in the primary teeth. Root Canal Treatment
There isn’t a set price for treating children’s dental emergencies. Every situation will be unique, and some will cost more or less to treat than others. For instance, treating a minorly cracked tooth with some dental bonding will typically cost less than having an infected tooth repaired with a root canal. Once we’ve evaluated your child’s condition, we’ll review our findings with you and fully explain which treatments we recommend and their associated costs.

In the unfortunate event, your child needs to have some front teeth removed, CCDC does provide the option for tooth replacement using a pedo-partial denture. The teeth look very natural and are cemented onto your child’s back molar teeth.
