Response to 1-15-09 review

I am the banquet manager at Val Vista Lakes and wanted the opportunity to respond to the review given on 1-15-09. Our goal is to provide excellent customer service to our clients because we realize that word of mouth referrals are the best form of advertisement. This review was the first I was made aware of the client?s concerns and I wanted to address them personally.

In regards to our staff calling for assistance from the Sheriff?s office I wanted to provide some insight on our policies. For the security of events, we hire an off duty Sherriff?s Deputy to be on site in case the clients, or their vendors, need assistance. We, like most venues, have a policy on not allowing self serving of alcohol. We take this policy very seriously given the negative ramifications that can result from such an action. Luckily, we don?t encounter this very often given the client?s bartender usually has a firm handle on not allowing this to happen. However, if it does occur it is our practice for staff to try and remedy it themselves by confronting the individual(s) to explain the policy and if need be contacting the clients and alerting them in hopes to bring it to an end. Usually the last resort (if the requests are not being responded to) is asking the Deputy on duty to mediate. I can assure you that any steps taken to end this practice are for the safety of the client?s and their guests. Nonetheless, it does concern me that our client felt it was a disturbance and I will take the appropriate measures in retraining staff to deal with these situations in a more discreet manner.

In the matter of rude and distrustful personnel, I welcome my client to call me to discuss this in detail. Since I?m unsure of when your event happened, I would need to speak with you to get more information to research and take action. I highly encourage all clients to report missing items to either myself, the Deputy on duty the night of your event or banquet staff. The sooner we are alerted of misconduct the sooner we can investigate and hopefully rectify the situation. Unfortunately I was not notified of the happenings outlined in the client?s review until reading it on this site but I still welcome a discussion.

Sincerely,
Janet Marhover

The Problem Is With The Staff, Not All Staff But It Only Takes A Few Bad Apples To Ruin A Special Oc

WE HAD MONEY STOLEN FROM THE LOCKED BRIDAL SUITE DURING OUR WEDDING-The only people that had keys were the employees and two of them were seen going upstairs right before it came up missing. There are no other rooms upstairs besides the bridal suite so I am not sure what reason they would have to be there.

THERE IS A RUDE FRONT DESK PERSON THAT GREETS YOUR BRIDAL PARTY- There is a snobby feminine acting male that someone in management thinks is a good greeter for people coming to their place of business. There was a Christmas tree that was intended for club members to buy gifts for kids who go to Thomas J. Pappas School (a school for children that come from poor economic backgrounds). This tree had a wish list from the kids. We asked a little bit of information on how we could participate and he was extremely rude and unhelpful. Later when it came for the rehearsal dinner, members of our party had to pass him and ask where the rehearsal was to take place.

THEY CALLED THE SHERIFF IMMEDIATELY- I was sitting at our table and saw a uniformed sheriff walk through with an employee. I went over to them and asked if there was a problem. Apparently ONE of our guests had made their own drink and it was in a different kind of dixie cup. The Staff member said many people where doing this- When I went around to check on all guests, there was only ONE person. The rude staff member could have came and spoke to a member of the bridal party, family or groom. There was one person who had a different cup and the overzealous staff jumped and called law enforcement creating a disturbance -because of one person with one cup!

Not all staff was bad, the head lady was very organized, polite and sweet. The place is beautiful and it captivated our guests. Our own pastor was fantastic. It seems like the administration has created a wonderful place for people to seal such a special occasion. The problem is that the actual staff (not all-but many) are unhappy and it shows.
