My son's 6th birthday was on Sunday of this week. He received a shirt that was a tad too long for him. I taped off about 2 " of material at the bottom of the shirt that I was going to attempt and have hemmed. My wife took the shirt in to Bou Cleaners on S Oakland St in Gastonia NC on Wednesday 05/16/18 at around 2:00 pm. My wife handed the shirt to the young girl at the cash register and told her what we had wanted done to the shirt. In our minds a very SIMPLE task-shorten the length a couple of inches and be done with it. The girl at the register calls over a heavy set lady (possibly in her 40's) and say's she is the one who does the altering of garments. Both of the women began to act like they are looking through some catalog before they can give my wife a price for this simple alteration. After a couple of minutes they walk over and tell my wife it will be $25.00 to remove the few inches of material from my 6 year old's shirt. The shirt didn't even cost that much. My wife politely tells them "No Thanks" and leaves. She drives 10 minutes down the road to the local mall and goes to the alterations place inside. The lady takes no time telling her it will be $8.00, no more. What a rip off BOU CLEANERS is. I HIGHLY recommend staying away from this place unless you want to me made feel like you are stupid...
I had been bringing my clothes there for about 6 months, mostly just work slacks. They put buttons on a kids coat and they were all askew, so I had to redo them myself. I didn't complain. Then about 2 weeks ago I took a expensive knit dress with a lining and they stretched it all out of shape. I took it back and the owner (Asian man) said he didn't see anything wrong with it. The dress is ruined, cannot wear it any longer. I took it to another regular cleaner and she said, it was stretched. At the same time I took the dress, I stated that I wouldn't bring anything expensive there and the owner, said ' I don't care if you never bring anything here', I said, what? He said 'I don't care if you ever come back'. I said, seriously. He said yes, so I took about 10 pair of slacks off the counter and left. I really wanted to curse him out and call him a few select names, but I'm trying to be a better Christian, so I just left. I am an older Black woman...I was appalled at his response.
Terrible.....I gave VERY detailed instructions on how I want my shirts pressed but they are never right. Gonna find a new cleaners!
Do I recommend bou cleaners? Absolutely NOT! I was a loyal customer for years along with the rest of my family. Until one day I had dropped off some clothing there along with a coat. I was greeted very rudely as I enter the store by a employee. I ignored the issue and went on my way to later come back to pick up my clothing and my coat. I payed and left to see when I got home a dirty coat that had not looked like it had Evan been touched. I called the cleaners after I had discovered my coat and asked to talk to a manager. I was really polite and told him about the experience that I had and about my coat. After I explained the coat to him he told me it was very unlikely that the jacket wasn't cleaned and told me that it was clean but if I wasn't happy to bring it back. Well I took it back for him to be surprised but not open to the fact that the coat hadn't been touched! I dropped it off to be rea cleaned and picked it back up about 3 days later when it was supposed to be done in 2 days and took me two visits back to the cleaners where the first visit I come to find it wasn't ready yet. I never got an apology from any one there are the manager himself. I was very unhappy with my experience and will never be back.
