I have been going to El Cuervo for the past 25 years, and have never been disappointed. The shop is family-owned, and there is usually at least one family member working at any given time. My favorite is the carnitas - in any form. The carnitas plate (#13 combo) is the best deal on carnitas I've personally come across; it is a plate piled with carnitas, rice, and beans, with tortillas on the side. The pico de gallo is peppy without being hot, and the combination of the subtley spiced carnitas with the pico de gallo and guacamole will make you swoon with delight. Because the combo plate is large, I usually go with the carnitas taco, which gives me all the flavor without the belly-busting volume. I have also had chilaquiles, machaca, and rolled tacos here. All are very good. This restaurant is very crowded at lunch time due to all the University and Mercy hospital employees who stop in for lunch, but the service is fast and good. It is counter service, but there is quite a lot of very comfortable table seating in the restaurant, and a nicely appointed salsa bar.
This is San Diego and you can't swing a golf club with out hitting the ball into a taco shop. So what makes this one special? It's hard to say, but it is at the top of my list for Mexican food. The locals are here once a week if they are shy, two to three if they are hungry (in any of the 24 hours of the day,) and more often if they appreciate an excellent, inexpensive, and filling meal. The ratings here might not be good, but that is only because of the fast food tables and styrofoam plates. Since you don't eat those, this place is almost 5 stars. And do not be put off by the bars around the open kitchen-counter they are a quaint tribute to the past when this neighborhood was strictly gang turf. Those days are gone and the neighbor hood and this place are family friendly. It is open 24 hours and is good before or after a Padre game, or if you partied too hard at the Turf Club for drinks and not steaks. A good Carne Asada burrito will soak up all that gin and juice and mitigate your hangover. The Carne Asada Fries are a must have.
I think Pokez spot is cool. I love the food over any mexican resturant hands down. They serve the freshest ingrediants I've ever tastied. Not only is there food wonder but the staff there is amazing you feel right at home when you walk inside. The people are friendly loving and know the value of customer service. I would eat there everyday if I could. Finally, we are in a ression people can barely afford to eat out with todays prices. With Pokez resonable menu it just cost a few dollars to enjoy great food.I enjoy enlimited, fresh chips and sasla plus a great meal and a drink all for under $8 bucks. If you haven't tryed this resturant you haven't eat great food you don't know what your missing. LOVE YOU GUYS ALOT, JANEA
I went here for the first time yesterday and I ordered the #9: 2 Carne Asada tacos with rice and beans. It took about 20 minutes for them to complete this order. The staff was friendly and apologized for the long wait. The food was very salty, but I didn't mind. I liked it, and the guacamole was great. Today, I ordered the Lupe's Burger which is, according to their menu, guacamole, pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, chipotle sauce, and fresh jalapenos. That is not what I was given. When I opened the burger, I pulled out a humongous, hard avocado half that was giving the burger its fake rise. Where is the guac? There was only jack cheese, not pepper jack, and no sauce! The burger is predominately lettuce. There is a mediocre patty, but I am not impressed. Essentially, I paid 7 bucks for a dry cheeseburger. Nevertheless, I will give them another chance to redeem themselves. If you don't mind a long wait for a disappointing lunch, this is the right place for you. Enjoy!
I often visited Zapata Taco Shop before it changed ownership to Rolando's Taco Shop #2. Zapata's was very good and the prices were very fair. This first time I went to Rolando's I was surprised that it was no longer Zapata's. I couldn't help but notice that the prices were higher and I wasn't quite sure what to expect..... so I walked out. Just recently, my daughter who just turned 19 and worked at the Subway nearby asked me to pick up a burrito for her. I asked if she had eaten there before since I know what a picky eater she is and she said it was very good. I went ahead and order her burrito plus the #1 and the #13 combinations which were the enchilada, taco with rice and beans plus the chile relleno with rice and beans. To my surprise it was more than good. The food was delicious! The rice and beans, wow! The salsa was also excellent. So it is a little pricier than Zapata's was but the quality and the size of the portions are easily worth the price.
Came here with some friends after hearing pretty good things about their tacos. Unfortunately I didn't think they were anything to brag about. I ordered one mahi mahi taco and one salmon taco both grilled. I forgot to order them on flour tortillas instead of corn which was my mistake but a total bummer. I wasn't necessarily fond of the marinade they used for the fish and in hind site I should have gotten the beer battered. It was hard to get really excited about these tacos when Oscars is right across the street. On a different note the carne asada fries were very good with a lot of different flavors in there. Some of my friends has burritos which they enjoyed as well.
The place is kind of hidden but worth looking for. Down the old 905 HWY until you hit Sanyo St. turn right, down to Airway Dr then right again and it will be the firts entrance on your left hand side "LA LOTERIA" I work around that area and they are always opening new little places but none good. My co-workers and I thought we'd give this place a shot and we are glad we did. The food has really good flavor and the service is AWESOME!!! Their tortilla soup is to die for but you need to request extra tortillas since you will need them!!! HIGHLY recommend this place!!! 9335 Airway Rd San Diego CA 92154 Phone: (619) 591-9973.
This place has gone down hill. I was a long term customer who has recently gotten very frustrated with their quality and intentional cost cuts. For example, I always order their carne asada taco. On three occasions when I got my order home I found there was NO guacamole. When brought to the attention of management, they insured that it was an accident. Also the kid at the cash register tried to charge me $4.00 for 1 cup of salsa. He just tried to slip the charge in at the end. Super bummed because this has been a family favorite for many years. If you go check your meal and check your bill for accuracy.
Great Fish Tacos If you live in San Diego, you have to eat at Rubios. Great fish tacos, good salsa bar and ok prices. I can't seem to order anything different, one grilled fish taco and one regular fish taco. I really like the hot salsa they have at the bar. I mix the hot with one shot of the mild and oh yea, good stuff. It seems mini lobster burritos are back for a little while. They are tasty, but a little expensive. I will have one of those tomorrow.
Very good food and people but some time they missed order today I visited 2 time I missed order and second time she missed take order instead of 3 all pastor taco she ordered 1..but that's fine. I called they said rest one will be ready but the cashier 3 who is working at 6.40 very rude and don't know how to talk customers. Other than that every thing is awesome. .that cashier 3 very misbehaving. .
