I brought my macbook pro in to MBS because the system is running very slowly. As an Apple certified care center, I assumed that MBS would honor the Applecare warranty. Instead, they charged $40 for labor and diagnostics and did not identify a problem with the system (which is still running slowly). When I asked about the charge, the manager came out with a red face and became defensive--saying that Applecare does not cover software or diagnostic testing. I have used Applecare for 2 years at other certified care centers and never paid a thing. And it sounded rather strange that Applecare would not cover at least some software issues. After calling Applecare when I returned home, they said that they do cover these issues but that some times certified dealers will run "special" diagnostic tests that they create for their stores. This is a good explanation and one that the manager at MBS should have said rather than acting annoyed, defensive, and angry. However, the technicians should explain the fees at the outset and not surprise customers (who may not mind if warned) with a charge. Further, it took the Applecare phone representative to actually identify and fix the problem with my computer and NOT MBS (with all of their "special" diagnostic tests).
In general, my experience with MBS was terrible. Their customer service from the outset was poor. They let my computer sit on the bench for several days without looking at it and finally ran the tests when I called to check on the status. And the manager/owner has very limited interpersonal and communication skills.
