Best afghan food in fremont

The food is fantastic here, our favourites are mantu and phirni, Friday and Saturday evening the place gets very crowded. you need to plan early.

Love the food!

I am a big fan of this place. It is cozy and fun and the food they serve is really nice. They have a good selection of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. Do try the Kadoo Borani in the appetizers and the Faloodeh in the deserts...truly amazing!

Bad Customer Service

One night my friend tried to call in an order to Salang, after being put on hold for an unacceptable length of time she was told that the pick up wait could be up to 2 hours, also unacceptable. So, on Saturday night, since we still wanted Afghan food we decided to stop by and place an order for pick up in person. After some time we finally got the attention of someone who told us that they were not doing pick up orders, because they needed to serve the guest that were already seated and those who were still waiting to be seated. We asked how long would the wait be if we still wanted to place an order and we were told that he had no way of saying it could be hours, it was already 8:30. It was bad enough that we were treated horribly, but this rude employee would not even make eye contact with us and only acknowledged us after we said excuse several times and got right in his face. We proceeded to Afghan Village in Newark and were acknowledged immediately, placed our order and were out the door 20 minutes later. I will never return to Salang Pass nor will any of our friends. I left Salang extremely upset for being treated as less than dirt, could it be because I am not Middle-Eastern? As a side note the food is much better at Afghan Village and the staff 10 times friendlier.

Excellent services/prices

If you are planning to visit fremont or live there, you must eat at Salang. The kabobs are the best that I have tried, specially the ""Chopan Kabob"" (Lamb) We also tried the Bolani and Mantoo. This ia an authentic Afghan Cuisine; for the great services the amount of food serve + it comes with salad and bread, the prices are perfect!
Wanted to have a different and unfurgatable experience visit Salang

Veggies Do not go there

I am sure lot of people will be surprised with this review, But my 2cents do not go for the food to Salang Pass specially veggies.
Ambience is good, Dessert are nice but little bit on the expensive side.
The service is horrible. People managing the restaurent are not professional.
I ordered the veg dish and Salad as well Afghani Nan were suppose to be coming with it. They did not serve me , when I was ordering the Dessert I realised that they did not serve us the salad and the Bread basket.
While paying I asked him why he did not serve and instead of accepting his mistake he started arguing wiht us that it does not come with the Vegie dish and when we showed him that its written in the menu, he shamelessly said please do not come to the restaurent again and was not having a courtesy to apologise , we had ordered one rice plate extra because there was no bread , and he charged us for that as well !!!
Ugly experience all in all...highly dissatisfied !

Confession: I have never been to Afghanistan. So, I must rely on my very reliable sources who tell me that the food at Salang Pass is authentic. I do, however, have personal, firsthand knowledge that the food at Salang Pass is fantastic!
My second confession is that I am a vegetarian, so I cannot vouch for the lamb or beef or chicken, but the vegetables are mouth watering.
Heaven for me is filling my plate with eggplant, pumpkin, potato-leek-pancake-things and bread, while making sure to save room for dessert.

Awesome food and ambience.

I had heard about Salang Pass alot and finally decided to go. It was very nice. Good decor, not upscale, but very meticulous with objects from Afghani culture. They have a high platform tent where you can sit down. we were a party of 14 and we all sat on the floor, it was nice.

The food was good, I liked the dessert and appetizers the best though. For appetizer, the dumpling and dessert the special Afghan ice cream with rosewater and shaved ice.MMMMMMMMMM

One of the best restaurants in Fremont!!!

This place is great! Excellent food. Salang Pass is as good as Burma Superstart. It has floor seating within a wonderfully decorated tent. and its table seating is behind a wall with a mural of the Afghan countryside.

My dad and I went. We had Aushak and Bolani Appetizers, which are excellent, in fact they were far better than the meal itself. The meal was good also, I had chicken kabob and my dad had Qabily Palow, a speciality that has a big piece of a lamb shank in it. My entree was $10 and my dad's was $11. You have to bring your own wine or beer though.

I highly recommend this place, its a great gem and find for Fremont.

Best Afghan food in East Bay

We went to dinner on a Saturday night and had an excellent time. The place was fairly crowded but we had to wait only 5 minutes. The ambience was excellent. They were a bit short handed so the service was a bit slow. The food was excellent. We had Chicken kabob, Lamb kabob and Eggplant. Everything was great especially the chicken kabob. The only down side was that they do not serve alcohol.

A great Afghani find in Fremont!

I just came back from a delicious lunch at Salang Pass. I was seated right away and there were only 2 other tables that were taken as this is a Sunday afternoon. The ambience is exotic yet comfortable. Patrons have the choice of sitting at a table or on the floor. Of course I opted for the floor. A salad with italian dressing was promptly served to me as I was going over the menu. For appetizer, I had the Aushak Afghani styled ravioli stuffed with leek and seasonings, topped with ground beef and a special yogurt sauce. It was very rich and flavorful but a tad mushy for my taste. Entree was Lamb Korma which was rich as well with lots of basamic rice. For dessert I had the rose water homemade ice cream. Overall I liked the service and music was soothing. Parking is sparse and as Ive never had afghani food it was a great experience. Please try to eat there for lunch between 2-4pm where it tends not to be busy. Good luck!

Ethnic gem in Fremont

Delicious food in large portions, iffy service, reasonable prices. About half the dining area is on a low platform, with seating on cushions. The swaths of fabric draped across the ceiling add a festive atmosphere. I recommend sitting there if you're comfortable, it's more fun. I've loved everything I've tried here, but some perennial favorites are the aushak (leek-stuffed dumplings w/meat and yogurt sauce), boroni kadoo (pumpkin curry), and especially quabili pallow (lamb & rice pilaf, ""Afghanistan's famous dish"") Definitely save room for the ice cream!

Good Food and Ambience

This is a good place to visit if you wanna have Kabobs.
Their Chicken Kabobs and Sheesh Kabobs are well marinated. The ambience is very earthy has the ethnic Afghani style to it, with Hookahs and hand crafted carpets.
Service is good too and dont forget to have Bulanis there if you get a chance.
