Urinary Incontinence
Urinary incontinence is an accidental loss of urine. Incontinence can be due to several different causes and Dr. Sunkavally is well trained to diagnose the problem in the privacy of his office, easily and painlessly. Most people with incontinence can be successfully treated or cured. Dr. Sunkavally does urodynamic testing in the office to accurately diagnose different types of urinary incontinence. Dr. Sunkavally is trained in the latest minimally invasive out-patient surgeries for the treatment of female stress incontinence, including TVT, TOT (Monarch sling, Mini arc), Prepubic sling and procedures to repair Cystocele or Bladder prolapse. Graft augmentation results in 70% reduction in advanced cystocele recurrence compared to standard repair (colporrhaphy).

Bladder Cancer
After a very successful surgery, I was told that I also had bladder cancer that was discovered during the surgery. If I would have taken the advice of the Stanford medical staff, I would not be a cancer survivor. The bladder cancer would never have been discovered and may have progressed to a severe stage.

Immediate post-operative period: After the surgery you will be taken to the recovery room. If a urinary catheter (foley) was placed during surgery, this may be removed by your nurse once you are awake, alert, and moving comfortably. Once your pain is controlled and you are able to urinate, you may be discharged from the recovery room to home. Expect blood in the urine with almost every urination. With time and hydration, the urine should slowly turn from a watermelon red color to pink to clear. You may have stent pain or bladder spasms (see complications of ureteroscopy above) that can be helped by overactive bladder medications or by an indwelling foley catheter. Due to instrumentation, most patients will receive 4-5 days of oral antibiotics to prevent a urinary tract infection.

An imbalance of the penile arterial blood inflow and venous blood outflow, and nerve dysfunctions are the main causes of erectile dysfunction in more than 75% of men. Penile ultrasound and duplex doppler, enables characterization of arterial and venous blood flow with in the erect penis. It also allows for a detailed survey of the corpora cavernosa to identify calcification or scarring inside the erectile tissue of the penis.
