Me and my husband wanted to have a special valentines dinner, but early in the week to avoid the crowds. So Tues. we decided to make the drive to El Rancho Grande 30 mins away. When we showed up we started to walk in and apparently the owner informed us they were closed, and I then asked my husband what time it was, because I thought I had lost track of time. But no it was 7:30, then she informed us that there was still one other table there so they would seat us. I asked are you sure?? She said yes they were just going to close early because it had been slow...Professional.. We should have left, they seemed irritated by our presence, and we felt they were trying to hurry us out of there. After they brought out our food it wasn't long before the candles were blown out and chairs put up and then the waiter comes by to mention it was last call for alcohol, and wanted to know if we wanted anything else? Then we ordered one more beer, and then the music was shut off. The food was ok, the salsa was more like tomato sauce. We asked if they had something more spicy, and they did, it actually had some flavor. I am from El Paso and know really good Mexican food and this isn't it. It was a bit above average to me, but how we were treated was wrong. It was supposed to be special, and it was far from that. I wish she had just turned us away if they wanted to go home; 730 to close is ridiculous to me.. If you want really good Mexican or Texmex go for La Margarita in Irving, or Hacienda Ranch in Grapevine.. Waaaaay better food and service!!! I wish I had took my husbands suggestion and just went somewhere else when she said they were closed.

My family has visited this establishment for almost 40 years - since it was located in the little building next door. There is a lot of good mexican food in Fort Worth, but this one is the best!!! The guacamole is wonderful and the chips will melt in your mouth. The salsa is spice without overpowering heat. My favorite is ""la grand fiesta"" - a variety of chicken based dishes or my son and I share the fajitas. My husband can't get away from the chalupas or my daughter the tamales. The service is consistently top notch and there is a warm family atmosphere that makes you want to return again and again.

Having eaten at El Rancho Grande years ago and remembering how wonderful it was, I was thrilled to find a ""new location"" nearby in the Keller area (76137 zip code). We made plans to go there and realized very quickly that the Heritage Way address is a residence. I called the restaurant and was told that the only location they have is the one on Main north of downtown Fort Worth. This misinformation needs to be corrected, I suppose by Citysearch, please.
