Community Action of Northeast Indiana, located in Fort Wayne, Ind., helps communities, families and individuals in removing the causes and conditions of poverty. It has helped more than 42,000 people living under the poverty line. The organization offers various programs, including Head Start, child care, energy assistance, weatherization, healthy families and family development programs. The community s Head Start program influences the lives of children, and also caters to educational and social service needs of the families of children. The Child Care Development Fund program helps parents maintain employment and complete educational goals, without the financial burden of childcare costs. The programs provide assistance to families with their utility bills, and provide quality child care and age-appropriate immunizations, and medical and dental care to children. The programs also offer families monthly housing assistance, emotional support, developmental screenings, parenting, discipline-related and child development information, and referrals to community resources.
