While traveling we enjoy going to antique stores, and was totally caught off guard when I was told I needed to put my purse in a locker before entering. My purse wouldn't hold an additional Kleenex much less whatever they seemed to think someone would want to take. It was very offensive and we have never encountered this in our 20 years of traveling and browsing antique stores. We promptly left and visited another antique store down the road with an extremely nice gentleman welcoming us in my tiny purse and all. We did make a purchase there.
I stopped by this store today and to my surprise was asked to store my purse in a locker with a lock. They handed me a key for my locker. Obviously they have had some theft issues but it made me feel like I was a criminal. They obviously feel this is necessary to protect their inventory but I didn't enjoy myself looking around as it created an unfriendly atmosphere. Just my opinion. I was anxious to get my purse and go which is what I did.
